Fun fact about the whole Gryla bit, there’s a movie that came out called Red One and one of the characters revealed on Twitter was Gryla. Everyone on twitter spammed it with Legends of Avantris clips and gifs. And the group saw this and made a comment about it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
To help you along with DnD. For the part you mentioned the whole mod idea. there is something like that in DnD and other TTRPG's that have similar aspects called 'Homebrew'. Homebrew is where you can add things to the game that the game did not have before. basically mods in TTRPG language is just called Homebrew with a slight twist being that you can do even more things that what mods can allow for certain games. I do hope this helps because my first time hearing it i thought it was mods too but then when i started to know the TTRPG lingo then i understood it.

I feel like they're just different styles of storytelling. Crit feels more structured, like they have certain story beats they maneuver towards with some improv in-between, while Avantris is pure improv chaos. It just depends on what you like.
I've been enjoying The Stinky Dragon podcast. It's a bit more serious than this, but it's still really good. They're 2 and a half campaigns in, with roughly a hundred episodes a campaign. Definitely recommend trying it. :)
