SD90MAC-H2's were delivered with EMD 16-265H's and literally shook themselves apart. The successor of the 265H today is the EMD 1010J which is found in the SD70AH-T4. FMG in Australia is the only ones that operate the SD90MAC-H2's now but im not certain on if they have been retired. Nice Vid.
The exported SD90MAC H2's along with the exported AC6000CW's were all scrapped. The 1010J's in the SD70AH-T4's have different fuel injection and crankshafts compared to the 265H's that the motors are soley based on.As a matter of fact, the 1010J's were focused from the 12-265H in the SD89MX prototype that still exists at CAT/PRLX as a testbed unit.Other than that, the SD70AH-T4's are junk just like the SD90MAC's were.Union Pacific still owns 90 units but on/off are in or out of storage.CSX sold the ST70AH-T4's recently. All of the PRLX SD70AH-T4's are currently on lease to Ferromex.Because of the failed results is why BNSF,KCS,and Norfolk Southern decided to not order the units.
Apparently the SD70ACu's have all but taken over the SD40E's for helper service on the Pittsburgh Line, I hear almost all of the latter have been assigned to other duties.
There is 45 SD70ACU's left with Norfolk Southern and 18 units are assigned to helper service while the other 27 units are regularly in revenue service. The 65 SD70ACU's that were sold to PRLX are currently being scrapped.
Correction: The SD90MAC was built in tandem with the SD80MAC. EMD was taking steps toward 6,000hp, with the 80’s incredible power and reliability giving EMD the signal that they were ready to push for from 5K to 6K Hp(while also using a smaller V16 engine in the 90 than the 80’s V20 for fuel efficiency I suppose).
Secondly, while Canadian Pacific did have their 90s rebuilt by PRLX-EMD, Norfolk Southern rebuilt theirs at Juniata shops in Altoona. Also you should have used a photo of an SD80MAC in Conrail colors.
But I’ll cut a bit of slack knowing the age of this video and how much you’ve improved overall(especially the voice).
misleading. The SD80MAC was the original design. It is my understanding they were built earlier in 1995 than the first 9043MACs.
The 265H's in the SD90MAC H1's & H2's were actually more massive in displacement. There is 710 cubic inches per cylinder while there is 20 cylinders (14,200 CI) with the 20-710-G3B-EC's in the SD80MAC's.There is 1,010 cubic inches per cylinder while there is 16 cylinders (16,160 CI) with the 16-265H's in the SD90MAC's.There also was the 12-265H (12,120 CI) in the SD89MX prototype. Both units used the same bodies and frames but weren't within the same production timeline. The SD9043MAC convertibles actually came out in large numbers before any of the 6,300 HP SD90MAC's because the 265H's were still in developing with EMD.The SD9043MAC's still had extra motor mounts for the 265H's even though having 710-G3B's.
Lastly, the SD90MAC H2's were debuted and which more of those units were built with the 265H's than the SD90MAC H1's.The cabs and bodies became what would be on all SD70ACE's and SD70M-2's but obviously on SD70 series frames.
Don't forget that canadian pacific also used these units!
Finally a foamer that got all the details right. Congrats young man.
Here’s more details about the script: NS had retired SD70ACUs to Progress Rail. Not all the locomotives were sold.
The CP SD70ACUs are trickeling thru AMP shop in Dansville NY. I’m not sure what they are having done. Some have thought electronics upgrades and perhaps it’s warranty work.
This was an awesome video
They are being sold to PRLX now
All MAC-H's had ACe cabs. And they were all rebuilt by NS at Juniata
Guys is there a way as the train community to have at least 1 sd90mac rebuild or for a museum? If there is a way I would like to know these giant beast are just magnificent despite the failures and all that it's just one clean machine love your video bro keep doing your thing!!
There is still some left I hear EMDX 90, 91, & 92 and they received some upgrades tho they may have been scrapped since.
Wait why do I spot a GP40MC behind that UP locomotive?
1:18 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳 what is MBTA GP40MC doing in Altoona Shops 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
he jus vibin doe
@@WorldwideRailfan Im not hatin doe 😳😳
Tbh he just chillin
@@BostonByRails he just maxin and relaxin
Great, clearly-narrated, informative video! Question: You mention at around 3:18 that the NS units were "sent to Progress Rail to be rebuilt". While EMD may have been responsible in some sense for the program, I thought that these were rebuilt at Juniata by NS, except for a few in Muncie. Can you clarify? I'm sure you're more knowledgeable about all this than am I.
William Candee they were all rebuilt at juniata
great video
I do like the SD70ACU it is a great looking locomotive and whatever happened to EMDX 90/91/92 ?
You should do the BP4 and then the MBTA 2C-3C
I already made the next one and it's gonna be the MBTA 3C program
@@WorldwideRailfan Can you try these
BNSF AC44C4M SD70MACE SD75I
CSX SD40-3 CM44AC/CW44AH
Hope UP decides on SD70ACUs except they aren’t powershort
Next it should probably be the AC44C6CF, ironically now than NS has put it up for sale.
You mean NS I’m turned the helper ones into Ex Conrails since they put Ditch lights below the Dech
Hey nice video
Great
Great video!
What is the ACU designation on the sd70
Alternating Current Upraded. Essentially they took SD90MACs and rebuilt them into the equivalent of SD70ACes.
Did you fall asleep at 3:39?
5:07, ehh, personally I think the ACu's look ugly with the pilot mounted ditch light and I think the demotion to helper service makes the ACu's underestimated and under appreciated NS rebuild to date. Great video though anyways.
2:10 locomotive under warranty so much for that
Then NS gets greedy and sells off some of these units for more IACs, like they werent good enough.
This aged poorly 👍
Especially seeing how much deeper his voice sounds nowadays, along with how better he is at doing research
