I actually disagree that Dark Empire’s return of Palpatine ruined Anakin’s sacrifice. I always considered Anakin’s legacy to be freeing the galaxy and establishing the New Republic. The oppression of the Sith was finally broken. So even if Palpatine himself comes back, he’ll never be in the same position of power again. Dark Empire ends with the New Republic preserved and Luke reaffirming the Jedi will return. Disney Star Wars’ biggest problem is the destruction of the New Republic to redo the Empire vs. Rebels thing, because that genuinely made not only Anakin’s sacrifice but all the stuff the heroes did in the OT pointless.

I think this comment has really hit the nail on the head. Whilst Anakin didn’t fully wipe out the sith, he wiped out the huge strategic initiative they held in the form of Palpatines regime. I’ve always said to my friends that by far my biggest issue with the new trilogy isn’t Luke’s character or Palpatines return, but the fact that the New Republic was destroyed.

The OT was about overthrowing the evil Empire and bringing freedom back to the galaxy, and the new stories afterwards are about preserving that from other evils. Actually liked Dark Empire comics and found that the lore was awesome .... The Sith were broken and Sidious attempted to maintain his dwindling control ! His dream of controlling the Galaxy was broken, the Republic was back and the Jedi would rise again ! Furthermore, the nice mentions of the Tales of the Jedi was awesome !
Imagine, he tied his spirit to his llightsaber, use the force teleport on the lightsaber to a lab filled with Palp clones. It would fix at least one problem. However Anakin must be the one to end Palps

3:32 - I think this appearence of emperor's clone body was changed by the secondary edition cover art for DE II. There he looks much like he should - like Ian Mcdiarmid from the prequels.
It doesn't have to contradict the prequelas and the chosen one. Palpatines final death on Onderon was the result of the chain of events caused by Anakin's sacrifice in episode 6. The decision Vader made was the most important decision in SW. I consider Dark Empire semi-canon. Palpatine surviving in clones and Luke comming to the dark side are true, but the power of reborn empire with all these superweapons, Sidious still being able to live forever through Anakin Solo's body etc are not. I'd say Anakin made his ultimate death inevitable, by killing him in episode 6. He did an incurable wound to Palpatine's spirit which made it slowly decaying and evaporating into the netherworld. Sidious knows that and uses the power he still has to turn Luke to the dark side and makes one last desparate attempt to crush the new republic and the jedi forever by opertion shadowhand.
As far as Anakin being the Chosen One, I have to agree with Yoda, probably that prophecy was misunderstood. As far as Palpatine somehow returning to life through the use of the dark side, it really doesn't work. There were many powerful Sith Lords over thousands of years, his doing this, while all the others failed, makes no sense. Even using the dark side to prolong life seemed like it was fraught with perils. I'm not sure if the Vong or the Rekatans are canon anymore but they do show that it is possible for the force to abandon a species or individual or in the case of the Rekata it even caused a plague that wiped most of them out. If they were going to do a sequel it should've been set at least a hundred years in the future and if Sidious played a role as a villain it should've been through holocrons that he had left behind. I agree that the OT characters should've simply been given happy endings more or less. Still even if the Sith were destroyed as an order other dark side users would eventually emerge and they would be influenced by the Sith even if they called themselves something else. Still the idea that a new dark side order could emerge and pose a serious threat to the New Republic/rebuilt Jedi order is ridiculous. The Empire was the result of a plan enacted over a thousand years. Palpitine getting thrown down a shaft into the Death Stars reactor and then blowing up wasn't a part of that plan. If it was, it was the stupidest plan I've ever heard of. In any event it would take at least a hundred years for another dark side order to be organized in any meaningful way.

We watched it and it's kinda okay except for the last episode which was quite good. Still not canon for us though, maybe just the character backstories.

Our opinion on that has nothing to do with the sequel trilogy nor the EU after ep 6. We considered it the happy ending because all the stories before it including in the main movis and tv series pointed to it being the happy end. The sequel trilogy came along and just cemented this opinion while the Eu after 6 i just fun.
In my head Cannon or fanfic I forgot which the force is dying and the Jedi that dried to Palpatine to the netherworld to keep him there so he would stay dead and tear him apart and stuff those bonds are broken Palpatine just a spirit though he doesn't have his Empire like he used to anyting he barely even remembers what he was so I would put him at the beginning of the Star Wars Universe where he could meet the celestials they treat him as one of their own for a while he doesn't even remember at first until he feels things are being close to the dark side and then he remembers everything he even absorb the dying abeloth that Luke killed with the mortis dagger he can't risk changing the future or he might not exist so he waits literally for several lifetimes until the events of the first order taking The Unwanted the undesired shaping them into his image it's why he looks like a corpse for all these years he's been keeping himself alive through countless upon countless eons millennium's whichever he was there to witness everything in history the forming of the universe the great schism he'll even for a while he actually had a little bit of lightning him to start a family and stuff but it wasn't enough because he remembers his true self I became a Sith all over again but this time he had an incredible amount of seniority so you could take his revenge and rule the universe all of the known galaxies that existed in Star Wars and more it'll be explained once I write it down
the fact that Kathleen had the stones to claim they had no source material then proceed to rip off Legacy of the Force AND Dark Empire in one fell swoop is nothing shy of extraordinary, lazy, pathetic, and renders everything worthless is just beyond the pale! I personally love the post-ROTJ EU, but yeeah this story is pure cringe and even while there is cool elements.... Still cringe. I own a copy of the trilogy but whenever I do an EU re-read I just skip ahead to the Jedi Academy Trilogy because Kevin J. Anderson does a better job at contextualizing Dark Empire... Without doing Dark Empire. But I will STILL happily take it over Title IX: The Rise of Bankruptcy any day of the week!

If anything, Dark Empire was also vindicated simply because TROS executed what Dark Empire did before so poorly, it made those who originally hate Dark Empire appreciate it as a result.

Why don’t you watch the mandolorian? I know it is after ROTJ but you said you like some of those comics after ROTJ even though you don’t consider them cannon. The mandolorian is just like those great comics.
We watched it and it's kinda okay except for the last episode which was quite good. Still not canon for us though, maybe just the character backstories.

Our opinion on that has nothing to do with the sequel trilogy nor the EU after ep 6. We considered it the happy ending because all the stories before it including in the main movis and tv series pointed to it being the happy end. The sequel trilogy came along and just cemented this opinion while the Eu after 6 i just fun.

It does mean that. We enjoy it for what it is but it's not canon for us. Only the characters backstories 😉
In my head Cannon or fanfic I forgot which the force is dying and the Jedi that dried to Palpatine to the netherworld to keep him there so he would stay dead and tear him apart and stuff those bonds are broken Palpatine just a spirit though he doesn't have his Empire like he used to anyting he barely even remembers what he was so I would put him at the beginning of the Star Wars Universe where he could meet the celestials they treat him as one of their own for a while he doesn't even remember at first until he feels things are being close to the dark side and then he remembers everything he even absorb the dying abeloth that Luke killed with the mortis dagger he can't risk changing the future or he might not exist so he waits literally for several lifetimes until the events of the first order taking The Unwanted the undesired shaping them into his image it's why he looks like a corpse for all these years he's been keeping himself alive through countless upon countless eons millennium's whichever he was there to witness everything in history the forming of the universe the great schism he'll even for a while he actually had a little bit of lightning him to start a family and stuff but it wasn't enough because he remembers his true self I became a Sith all over again but this time he had an incredible amount of seniority so you could take his revenge and rule the universe all of the known galaxies that existed in Star Wars and more it'll be explained once I write it down
Dark Empire is far superior to the Rise of Skywalker and th sequel series. Though yes, head Canon possibly means it shouldn't have happened.

I personally love the post-ROTJ EU, but yeeah this story is pure cringe and even while there is cool elements.... Still cringe. I own a copy of the trilogy but whenever I do an EU re-read I just skip ahead to the Jedi Academy Trilogy because Kevin J. Anderson does a better job at contextualizing Dark Empire... Without doing Dark Empire.
But I will STILL happily take it over Title IX: The Rise of Bankruptcy any day of the week!

They were far from perfect but I feel like the sequels r judged too harshly and tlj was the bad apple. I mean imagine if they had a road map from the start and the second film would've set up Palpatine returning as a Clone?! Would've been awesome and tros would be a better movie. Don't get me wrong KK should piss off but still don't shut ur eyes to the new canon
