When I listen to this song I feel like I am sitting on a magic carpet that is being gently yet swiftly carried by the wind. It’s unbelievable. Cannot be described, cannot be reproduced. The voice itself seems to be the music. Lata ji is simply the greatest. Others can sing this song too. But alas, I am no longer on that magic carpet.
I heard this song again today after many months. I cannot but help commenting some more about this exhilarating song. Yes, that’s the right word. Exhilarating g. Magic!! I’m an engineer so I think like one. I have no sense of music. But when I hear this song I know that each note that lataji sings is pure. It moves from one note to another seamlessly, with no abruptness. Can’t tell where one note ends and the next begins. In my engineering world that’s a pure tone. 0 harmonics. But the real wonder is the notes are made up of hundreds of pure tones all blended without a single tone that doesn’t belong in the mix. I don’t know if I am making sense. But what I can tell you is this. Everything she sings is meant to be there and everything that she has not sung just does not belong in the song. It’s the epitome of perfection. There… I have attempted to put an engineering perspective to the most inexplicable voice of the yuga.

Pleasantly surprised, she remembers the evening engagement tries to pursue him to abort the song. But he wants her to continue singing. Transfixed, he yokes his ears slurping each and every word, habitually take the cigarette out of his pocket and about to light it. Her displeasure blended with love, pulls off the cigarette off his mouth. Here I fell in love with her. In just one gaze all her love emanates for her one and only one lover. Director's skills are unbound, he captures the very moment with the right words. This is what is supreme love portrayed - two powerful actors and of course the singer, the music director.
This was the Indian cinema where love was not incarcerated into three words, 'I love you' but the words, the action and the music played integral part of cinema.
