Zafar, Many blessings to you for taking time out of your day to write this comment. Thank you so much. It’s very cold as you can tell where I’m at here in the United States. Hopefully, at some point it will get warmer but it’s part of the deal when you live in a cold climate. I want people to learn more about your beautiful city there in Pakistan. I’ve included a link below. In particular, myself, I would love to visit Hawke’s beach. Thanks again for your comment and for being part of this channel’s Boat Friend community. 🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰⛴️⛴️⛴️en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karachi
Zafar, so glad you can see these videos! Welcome to the Boat Friends!! My uncle was a lift bridge operator when I was a kid. So glad you can see these great ships, the bridge and the Duluth Skyline.
@@vibewithmike And to think I forgot until I read his son's obituary. My cousin, Tim, was the most handsome boy I ever knew and a true sweetheart. I regret not keeping in touch over the years. Lesson learned...
You are right, the ship was riding on a cloud, it was absolutely spectacular, Carl thank you so much for watching the video on a Friday and for taking time to write a comment
This is definitely ranked up. There is my favorite as well. I’ve never had this type of situation on the lake with the colors and see smoke like that before.
@johanvandersandt8904 it is the right word, I was wondering what the right word would be, it’s magical, it was so crazy out there with that odd looking and cool looking cloud and sea smoke
When I got done recording, I knew it was one of my favorites. Personally, it could possibly be my number one favorite just because of the conditions out in the lake, it was so spectacular. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to write this comment and watch the video.
Luckily, I’m warm now, it was definitely cold out there. I had a lot of fun recording the beautiful scenery and ship for everybody. Have yourself a fantastic Friday.
Will, thank you so much! You are so kind and generous to support this channel. I promise I will be out there doing live streams and uploading videos like this because it is such a pleasure and a joy for me to bring them to you. I hope you’re having a fantastic weekend so far. It’s still very cold here Duluth, but there are 30° temperatures on the horizon. I’m keeping my eye on one last ship that will be arriving in Duluth, the Boland. Again, thank you for your support, and for being a boat friend.
My first comment though I've been watching for a while. Beautiful day, beautiful seen on the lake, .... and a beautiful ship, the John G Munson. Something very comfortable about that ship. Thanks
Thank you so much for leaving your first comment, it really means a lot, I appreciate that. Thank you for taking time out of your day to do this. I’m glad you enjoyed this ship. It was so beautiful to watch it come through that sea smoke. I hope you have a fabulous Friday night.
Thank you so much for watching, this definitely could be ranked as my personal favorite video of all time just because of everything that happened in it including the weather, but that lake, see smoke and sky was unbelievable to me
It was my pleasure being out there, I was totally in awe, looking out at Lake superior with those beautiful conditions. The ship had ice on it too. It was unbelievable thank you for watching the ship video.
It’s my absolute pleasure, my friend. Even though it was cold, I was caught in the moment with the beauty I saw out on the lake and I’m so glad I was able to share it with everybody. These ships are beautiful with ice on them, but the backdrop was spectacular on lake superior, I could not believe it.
I know what you mean, I still can’t believe the sky looked like that. It was layered with sea smoke and such an incredible looking layer of clouds, I still don’t know what that was, it was so remarkable and unusual and cool at the same time.
@@vibewithmike - well since the wind chill temperature - 28oC- was as cold as our freezer who knows what it did to the clouds - just made things beautiful - bit cold to be out Mike Mate - we don't want you frozen
@clarewilliams5907 you got a good point, I could save some room in the freezer if I put everything outside for a while? I think the animals might like that overnight😂😂😂😂😂😂🧊🧊🧊🧊🧊🧊🧊🧊
Tea, it’s truly a pleasure to make these videos. Thank you so much for that wonderful comment. I like how you describe this, atmospheric, it definitely is to create those conditions out in lake superior. I wish I could see that every day but that’s not the case. I said this before, but when I got out of my vehicle and saw what was going on out in the lake, I kind of stopped for a second to watch it because I couldn’t believe my eyes how crazy it looked out there.
Mike, you could easily make some prints of this beautiful arrival and sell them in your on-line Boat Friends Duluth shop!!!! Just freakin Beautiful. Thank you sir for braving the warm Tropical Minnesota Winter Now go get a Hurrican from Grandma's!!!!
Todd, I’ve never seen the lake look like this man. It was so incredible. At least I got it on video but I should’ve really stayed down there a little longer and looked more at the lake but it was so cold.
Totally agree with the still shots, words cannot convey the excellence of this video. Loved the crunching of your boots at the end. Perfect ending to perfect vid!!!❤❤❤
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the opening of the video, that covered in it was absolutely unbelievable, and to see the ship covered in. It was so fun to watch. Thank you for taking time to watch the video and write a comment my friend.
I still can’t get over that. I was able to record all of that developing with the sea smoke, the ship in the sky, it was unbelievable. Thanks for watching this video Ken, all the best to you.
Elizabeth, it’s hard for me not to say this was my favorite video of all time because of the conditions, the sky, smoke, ice on a ship, everything, it was very cold, but I enjoyed what I was seeing out in the lake very much. It was almost surreal.
@@vibewithmike Agreed, these ladies of the Great Lakes all donned with ice and snow look magical! Especially with the smoke in the canal. THank you so very much for your channel and all the passion you have for these beauties!
Hey, what a wonderful comment and I thank you my friend. I hope everything is great in the UK for you. Winter has finally found all of us. It seems like. All the best to you and yours, my friend. Thanks for taking time to write a comment and watch this ship video today
In the south they say it's not the heat it's the humidity, around here it's not the cold it's the windchill. Sunburn and frostbite too. Stay safe in these temperatures Mike.
Thanks friend, I got the heat blasting right now, so I’m all good. I still watch this video and think about how incredible it was seeing all of this with my eyes and I’m so glad I was able to share it with you and others. I could not believe the situation with the conditions on the lake with that sea smoke, and seeing a beautiful ship, come out of the sea with ice on it right towards us.
What COLORS! Some of those shots look ‘award worthy’ with the composition, the Sea Smoke, the Sunrise and the star the John G. Munson. Thank you for getting out there at ‘dark-thirty’, it was worth it to me. Keep your fingers warm, those are Frostbite conditions. I’ll be looking for what you have for us during ‘layup’. You’ve made it a Grand season for ship watching. The New Jersey Shore is getting a steady snow today with your kind of temperatures when it stops. I’m staying in & doing some not liked chores. Watching for the “next one” !
I don’t think I can ever replicate the beauty that I saw with my own eyes out on the lake when I recorded this. It made me so happy as I was editing the video to know that all of you would be able to see the beauty on Lake superior. I really had a wonderful time out there seeing this ship. Again, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate the conditions it was that unbelievably cool. Thank you so much for watching this on your Friday
One of the best videos ever, absolutely fabulous Mike! I knew you would be there for us to capture it with your excellent coverage and description!! Thanks for bringing this to your viewers 😊. The sea smoke was so "cool", and the beautiful sky, won't see a video like this very often!
I’m really glad that you were able to watch this on a Friday. Thank you for such a wonderful comment. I knew when I got out of my vehicle it would be a special day because I could see how unbelievable the conditions looked out on the lake, it was beautiful. I don’t think I’ll be able to record something this cool ever again.
What a wonderful word, magical, that’s exactly how I would describe what I saw looking out at the lake with the sky and sea smoke, it was unbelievable, thank you so much for watching the ship
I’m glad you were able to watch it. It was fantastic chatting with you this morning as well my friend. The conditions were absolutely unbelievable. In every way for this video. Yes, it was freezing cold, but when I saw out there on the lake, and when I was able to record is something I’ve never seen before before. I really had a blast recording the ship video for you.
Ship tried to salute, but a true Mother Nature takin over as it were…. Another fantastic show, and great video, and squeaky snow at the end!!!!!!!!! How great was that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!
This is my tribute to the Guess Who, one of my favorite bands, the next line goes something like this “ And a new splendid lady comes to call” written by Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman. They originated out of Winnipeg so not too far from Duluth…..
And if you watch the video to the very end, you hear what I mean by squeaky snow. That means it is pretty darn cold out, and Mike is a true warrior out filming in that kind of weather. The BOAT NATION thanks you for this effort as no doubt one of the very best to close out the season!!!!!!!
@@vibewithmike Man that was awesome Mike! How these guys are Not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is beyond me………. Got to see them live a few years back after they reconciled and got back together at an open air rock concert in northern ND, and they brought the house down!!!!!!
David, I hope you’re having a great Friday Brother. This Hass to be one of the funnest backdrops I could ever record out on the lake. It was so remarkable and different. I’m glad you were able to watch the video today.
What a beautiful sunrise and ending of the shipping season and for the crew. Thanks Mike for braving the wind and cold to give us first hand coverage of that beautiful ice covered ship! Sorry the season is over. But you'll be back out in the cold to keep us updated on what's happening. Thanks Mike and all Boat Friends. MIKE is the BEST!!
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate the sunrise, and all of those conditions that we could see out on the lake. It was unbelievable. I was an awe, and I was recording, it was that crazy, thanks for watching the ship. It was so wonderful to watch the ice on the ship. It was my favorite. All the best to you on a Friday.
I think this is my favorite type of Great Lakes ship, the old-school style with the forward pilot house. Thanks, Mike for bringing those to us. And man alive... it really looks cold there in Duluth. Right now it's about 56 degrees warmer where I'm at here in Washington State on the wet side of the mountains. To you, it would be balmy at 38 degrees.
Hey, that 38° is very cold and you’re not in the woods, it’s all perspective, my friend. I hope it warms up for you. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate this video with the sky and conditions. It was almost like I was in a Hollywood movie. I could not believe the situation. Thank you so much for watching the video. Have a fantastic weekend all the best to you and yours.
Mike, what a great season this has been. It's not easy to battle those artic conditions....especially so early in the morning. Starting at 7:13, we see the American flag flying proudly from the stern. This is a US built ship, operated by a US company, crewed by Americans, and delivering cargo between US Ports. She looks beautifully maintained. I couldn't be more proud of this fine old school laker.
Chuck, it’s hard for me to describe looking out at that lake what I was feeling besides excited and surprised. I’ve never seen the lake look like that. Not just the sea smoke, extremely different, looking cloud structure on top of the smoke. I was really excited to record. It’s going to be a hard video to forget.
I should thank you for your videos, you make it vert interesting, very informative for a stubble-jumper from the prairies . Stay warm cover exposed flesh, as frostbite is not nice to experience
Thank you so much, luckily, I’m back in the warm weather, this was such a spectacular sky and visual on the lake, I could not believe everything I was saying. I’m so glad I was able to record this video for you. Have a fantastic Friday my friend.
Hey Mike and all”BOAT FRIEND NATION” from a balmy 3 degrees today. You recorded this on the 18th of January which was my 72 bday.Lots of frozen fog on the big lake this date, and you would have had squeaky snow for sure. Bridge going up
One thing that I was thinking about, it was so cold that maybe the bridge could have issues going up, I’m glad the bridge made it through this year. Chuck, thank you so much for being part of this channel.
Greetings from Montana, so happy we found your channel! Thank you, Mike, for braving the elements for all of us. Everything about this video was Glorious, like something coming out of the clouds from Heaven, just Crazy Gorgeous! The beauty of it put tears in my eyes, couldn't get enough! Thanks again.👍
You described it absolutely perfect. It was really heavenly, I’ve been trying to search for the right words thinking about what I saw, and what I recorded. It was something I’ve never seen before. It was such an anomaly, yes, I’ve seen sea smoke, but the way the clouds and denseness of clouds laid low, and then the beautiful sun tried to peek through, I have no words to describe it besides, like you said, heavenly, and other peoples have said magical, that’s about right. It was so fun out there.
Hey Mike! Nice light, for not talking about great photo light. I dont like cold anymore, but the seasmoke can give spectacular photos. We have about -16C in my part of the world, and thats enough for me! Wish you a nice and peaceful day my friend.
I knew the better lighting would be on the other side, the south pier, but there’s no way I’m gonna give up the beautiful scenery and background for better light. No way. It was so fantastic. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate those conditions I recorded. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and taking time out of your day to write it.
As a photographer I can tell you that you were at the right side. Seasmoke and fog are best backlighted by the sun. And you made a very good video out of it.@@vibewithmike
@user-kk3hz6oc3z well thank you very much, I’m still learning the ropes with photography, it’s wonderful for you to compliment me like this. It’s truly humbling.
Mike, well done. Your excellent commentary/narration of your videos sets you and your channel way apart and above other boat watching channels that I have seen. I for one, really appreciate your style and effort. Thank you.
What an absolutely wonderful comment to read on a Friday. You really made my day with this. Thank you so much. It means a lot me Warren, I hope you’re having a fantastic Friday friend.
Dude, thank you so much, what a wonderful comment to read. Thank you for taking time out of your Friday to do this. And also, thank you for taking time out of your Friday to watch this video. All the best to you and yours.
I’m so happy to hear that. It felt like you were there. That’s how I try to put these videos together where you were right there with me. It was so remarkable watching the ship arrive and these conditions.
Hey, you’re a Nestlé man, too, I was just talking about Nestlé the other day, that’s funny. Thank you so much for your comment and watching the video. I had a fun time recording this ship, it was awesome.
This is so awesome, seeing a beautiful aged vessel like it is coming out of nowhere and suddenly appearing in front of you. Wow; absolutely breathtaking. Thank you Mike for braving such weather to show us such a wonderful video. I totally enjoyed it. Again thank you. It is my favorite video
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, the Munson is such a beautiful, old-school ship, and to see it coming off of Lake superior through the sea smoke is so wonderful
I’m very happy that you took some time on a Friday to watch this video. Thank you so much. I hope you’re going to have a wonderful Friday and a great weekend. This was a fun ship.
Thank you for another stunning video. I grew up in northwest indiana, Gary Indiana area. Grew up going to Lake Michigan beaches. I was always fascinated with the ships in the lake, but I never got a close view of them. We now live in West Central Indiana. In 2007, my husband and I went up to Two Harbors, camped for a week at Splitrock Lighthouse State Park. We 1st stopped in Duluth, went to the maritime museum, and visited the canal. We went back to Two Harbors in 2015 and stayed at Burlington Bay RV Park. I love it up there. Seeing the big ship's up close was amazing, You could almost reach out and touch them. I so appreciate your channel and the Duluth Harbor Cams, I watch daily if I can. Thank you for all the details on the lakers and salties that come through the canal, I have learned so much about these amazing ships. Thank you.
What an absolutely wonderful comment. I appreciate you putting time into what you wrote. This video I will never forget because of how beautiful the conditions were as far as the visuals, the sunrise, sea smoke, everything came together. It was unbelievable. Thank you so much for watching this ship video. You have yourself a splendid Friday my friend.
I’m really glad you enjoyed this one. The sky and Sea smoke was unbelievable as a recorded this. And to have a ship coming in a full of ice was really cool.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was one of my favorite videos of all time because of the sea smoke on Lake superior and the beautiful sunrise with the ice on the ship. That doesn’t happen very often. It was absolutely incredible. Thanks again for watching on a Friday my friend.
@vibewithmike your welcome I hope one of these days I can make it all the way up there from Oklahoma to see a ship go through my self but that's a long ways away
Even cloaked in ice , the Munson is a hell of a beautiful ship!!! I went outside for less than 5 minutes and my oxygen tubing froze solid , no bending , bad , very bad stupid weather!! That's one thing this Crazy Canuk really hates is winter LOL ... Thanks for all you have done Mike , you are an amazing human being bringing us ship and boat lovers some great video. Keep warm my Brother , don't get sick on us.
Even though the Anderson has a lot of history, and is beautiful, I think from a beauty standpoint, the Munson is the top from a visual standpoint. Be careful with your oxygen tubes freezing up, I don’t want nothing bad happening to you brother. Be very careful. Thank you for the kind words, I really enjoy these ships and I know others do too, and thankfully technology allows me to bring them to you.
At these temps, the snow squeaks under one's feet! This brings many subzero memories from the Finger Lakes region of New York. Lake-effect snow from Ontario; listening for chance at a "snow day" as we eagerly listened to "school snow closings" at 5 AM on WHEN Radio 62 Syracuse. Such Memories! 😊💜
It looks cold! What magnificent footage! Sea smoke Ice and sunrise we got it all on this one. We are dipping into the 20’s this weekend in Jax!The steering pole do they all have one? Great video!
Thank you, Mike, not all ships have a steering pole, a lot of the old-school ships do, just help some line things up on the horizon. Thanks again for taking a moment out of your day to leave a comment and watch the video.
Been watching these winter arrivals past couple of days - and just subscribed. Mike - you are the bravest man I know to go out in this cold to get this video. You do wonderful camera work and I like the marine update also. Really glad I found your channel from here in Michigan.
Thank you for subscribing and joining the Boat Friends community. We welcome you with open arms. Thank you for your wonderful comment, I have a lot of fun recording these ships. I don’t think I’ll be able to replicate the beautiful conditions. I was able to see out on the lake during this video. It was magical. Thanks again for your comment, I hope everything is great for you in Michigan on a Friday night.👋⛴️
Patrick, what an unbelievable comment. For you to even compare this photography in this video to National Geographic, unbelievable, really humbling. www.nationalgeographic.com/photography
Really enjoyed this one! The sunrise and sea smoke were the perfect backdrop to this amazing ship. Thanks for bracing the cold temps to bring this to us.
Absolutely, my friend, it was my pleasure to record this ship. It was one of the most beautiful situations and scenery videos I’ve ever captured. It was truly remarkable with that sky and sea smoke plus a ship with ice on it.
This is hands down the most beautiful I have ever seen the lake! I watched this on the cam but didn't notice the boat friends beacon so I thought you would not be there but I am glad you were! Have a fantastic weekend my friend!🌫🌫🌫🌫🚢
Johan, one of the funniest comments I saw, so far is that someone thought that the lake look like it was produced by AI, even though he knew it wasn’t, it was so unbelievable to see that. I got out of my vehicle and looked over at the lake, and my jaw literally dropped, knowing I was going to record that. It was so cool and different. I’m so glad I was able to get it. I hope you’re having a great evening there in South Africa. All the best to you brother🤜🤛🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦👋🙏
I watched it in HD and it was breathtaking so I can only imagine how awesome it must have been for you bro! Thank you for sharing Mike! Hope you have a great evening over there as well! 🌃🇺🇸🇿🇦🌉
It must have been terribly cold out there, but the beauty you saw certainly made it worth it to bundle up and make the video. Thanks for sharing this with us. How many ships will winter in the docks in this area?
There’s a total of of eight ships that are doing the winter layup in the area. I have to tell you, Janet, even though it was cold it was one of the most beautiful scenery situations I’ve ever recorded with a ship.
@@vibewithmike I can well believe that, as even the video was breathtakingly lovely! Ships are such beautiful objects at any time, and couple that with an exquisite sunrise, rising sea smoke, and peaceful, placid water, and you have something really worth seeing! Thanks for answering my question. Where else are freighters docked for the winter in the upper Great Lakes? I know that in the lower two, Port Colborne, Ontario is a resting place, as I watched a short video about that yesterday….
Hello Mary, there’s no doubt that this is the best winter layup video I’ve ever recorded. I will never be able to replicate the sky, the sun and the sea smoke like it was on Lake superior when I recorded this. It was truly remarkable. Thank you so much for watching this ship video.
Hey! Now that is cool! When I looked out on the lake and saw the crazy conditions with the sea smoke in that interesting looking cloud layer, I knew it would be a fun video. I wish I could’ve stayed outside a little longer and checked it out, but it was a little chilly that day. I’ve seen pictures in the past for people of recorded a ship and see smoke like that, but it was my first time really seeing it myself! I really appreciate you and your wife watching these videos. I’m keeping my eye on the Boland. if things work out and it’s not going into Monday, I’ll be able to record that ship as my last live stream of the season.
@brupolwch I’ll miss it if it comes on Monday. I hope it does come on Sunday but we’ll see. The wind looks kinda high in the Duluth area so they might anchor until Monday morning.
Definitely cold, but I’m so glad I recorded the ship for you. Everything came together in this video. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of recording, and it finally happened. Duluth during its coldest day of the year, lake superior, Sea, smoke, beautiful sun, creating unbelievable colors and a ship with ice. It was remarkable and fun.
Well, Mike, you hit it out of the park again. Just want to thank you for letting me know about the other chat. I asked them if I was welcome there and for sure they said yes. Nice to see you in and out of there.
Dennis, I’m glad that you went over and checked it out. The people on the Soo live cam are the best. It’s the best UA-cam live stream out there. There’s nothing better. ua-cam.com/users/liveU6-IMHRLy2c?si=F0ZtJZ0Ank8-SsXI
Wow!! That view of the Sun, the Ship, and the Sea Smoke is absolutely breathtaking, and it made my cup of coffee taste even better, not to mention my maple frosted donut that went with it hahaha! On the John G Munsons horn, we have a frequency of 89.4 HZ and an F sharp2 for the musical note. Thank you Mike! 💙🙏🏻💪
I still think one of the coolest things of the year is you telling us about the frequency of these horns, that has to be so cool to people to see this! I think it’s the first of its kind like we talked about before. You’re bringing something totally new to the concept of ship watching for us.
WOW! Thick seasmoke, golden orange sunrise, amazing ship, snow--- (Hey! Where is snowman? Gosh, he would have been posing so happily in those conditions! He must have been sleeping.) Anyway, what a terrific video Mike! It just doesn't get much better than that! We could hear the salute from the ship even if it was frozen! Can you imagine riding the ship out in those conditions? I wonder how much of the journey was a whiteout? Duluth would be an extra great sight to see after coming out of the fog! Way to be out there Mike and capturing this for us! Love it!❤❄🚢🌞👋🙂
@LoriLeaPouttu this what is the funniest video for me to record even though it’s so cold. The visuals I saw out on the lake made this unbelievable for me personally in a cool way.
@@vibewithmike It had to have been soooo cold! I thought it was suppose to warm up! My fingers were freezing at sunset this evening, let alone at sunrise when you went! Wow! What images were you seeing? Did it show up in video? I think I have to watch it again!
Visiting Duluth this past September my wife and I had the honor to watch the John G. Munson leave the canal (along with SWAT teams in Zodiac boats) and in doing so became my favorite laker of all time. I’ve watched scores of them coming and going on you tube but that was my only live viewing. I need to come back to Duluth. Thanks so much for what you do, your great at it.
The Monson is such a beautiful ship. There’s no doubt about it. I think from a looks standpoint, Munson has the most beautiful coloring and look on the Great Lakes. I think you’ll find this entertaining, the captain of the Boland actually left a comment yesterday on a video. Take a look at the very top comment for this video. ua-cam.com/video/QY-PUVFAZL4/v-deo.htmlsi=DY3zXdD_XesIcswh
Wow... that sea smoke makes this video look mystical, especially viewing the Munson appear from the sea smoke. I love all these ships but these old school lakers are definitely my favorites. Look at that ice on the bow! Bless that Captains heart... he gave it a good try with a Masters salute! So cool to see that USA flag flying as the Munson made its pivot after it passed under the bridge! Thanks Mike for this excellent video. God Bless and go warm yourself up!
It really made me feel proud seeing that USA flag flying like that, it was a wonderful way to end the season seen the Munson with that flag, believe it, or not, there’s still one ship lurking out there, Ken, the Boland, I will be able to do one last live stream if it comes in before Sunday night
There is nothing more beautiful than a canal sunrise today the extreme cold enhances the overall beauty. Absolutely the old school design of several ships are my favorites. Mike, what a stunning video to end the season. We have some very popular ships at lay up in Duluth this year. This is one if not my very favorite video. Take care stay warm!❤
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate this event at all, the beauty out on that lake was extremely mystifying and different, in a good way, I’ve never seen it like that before
I don’t think I’ll be able to top that video. I’m not sure where it ranks for other people but me personally the represents the fun and the truly amazing conditions of Lake superior can produce. I will never forget it. I will never forget it.
I was right there in 1998 as an over the road trucker. My first sight of the Great Lakes blew my mind and I remember that I wanted to go downtown and walk around but didn't have time. That view of downtown Duluth was exactly the same view I remember. If I only knew this park was there I would have visited it.
Jersey, I definitely respect any of the truckers out there. You’re away from your family to move things to keep the economy going. Much respect brother. That’s another thing. That’s cool as you probably seen so many things that nobody else will see. Think of all the beautiful, sunsets, mountains, I can just imagine.
A lot of the friends in the UK have been talking about the cold there as well. We all have to get our big thick jackets out. Winter is here. Thank you so much for taking time to write this comment and to check in brother, all the best to you.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️

Enjoy your videos here in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. Like your camera views and commentary also. Hope to some day get out that way to enjoy the ship arrivals. Does anyone ever fish off the end of the piers??
Yes, I do see people fishing off the pier, you see it more in the summer and fall. Hands-down the best documentaries I’ve ever watched about Duluth are these two, Lost Duluth 1 & Lost Duluth 2. If you want to learn about the ship canal start at exactly 19:33 in Lost Duluth 1. I have linked these videos below for you. These documentaries tell the whole story of Duluth’s beginning and shipping industry, it’s absolutely fascinating with the photos and videos. Lost Duluth 1: www.tpt.org/lost-duluth-i/video/lost-duluth-i-38108/ Lost Duluth 2: ua-cam.com/video/8LtrsYVWezY/v-deo.html
What do the crew members do during the winter? I suppose they find something to do and stay warm. Do .have any info on crews? age, citizenship, etc. Next season This was a fantastic video. You have the eye of an artist. Do you ever sell individual photos? This one has some great ones.
Many of the crewmembers actually uses as their time off during the year, some of them have two or so months off until the shipping season begins. I also heard that many crew go and take a contract for a few months on other ships on the ocean. It’s very interesting that industry. Many different types of people all ages as well.

That's one regal ship, coming in through the sea smoke and an iced bow. That's one beautiful video, and that poor boat whistle!
Zafar, so glad you can see these videos! Welcome to the Boat Friends!! My uncle was a lift bridge operator when I was a kid. So glad you can see these great ships, the bridge and the Duluth Skyline.
Susan, I still think it’s one of the coolest things that your family was connected to lifting that bridge. That’s the best job in the world.
@@vibewithmike And to think I forgot until I read his son's obituary. My cousin, Tim, was the most handsome boy I ever knew and a true sweetheart. I regret not keeping in touch over the years. Lesson learned...
Hi Mike
Another excellenr vodeo !
Looks like it came up to the harbour
" riding on a cloud !
Have a great day !
You are right, the ship was riding on a cloud, it was absolutely spectacular, Carl thank you so much for watching the video on a Friday and for taking time to write a comment
Wow, that is a picture you could frame, as the ghost ship comes through the frozen fog!
It’ll be a hard video for me to top as far as the cool meter goes literally and figuratively
You always capture the moment Mike
Thank you for saying that, thank you for taking time out of your day to write a comment and watch the video friend
This horn sounds like a ship with a sore throat. What a great old ship and video.
Let’s give it a Ricola, I’ll bet that’ll help the sore throat
OH MY GOODNESS. This is probably my favorite ship video of all time. The sunrise, the sea smoke, the frozen ship, the landscape. Crazy gorgeous.
This is definitely ranked up. There is my favorite as well. I’ve never had this type of situation on the lake with the colors and see smoke like that before.
Yeah, this one has to win some kind of award - this is National Geographic level filming. It is truly that good.
Absolutely beautiful. Video quality is just like being there.
Seconded! This is magical! The title should have been the Munson in the mist hehe!
@johanvandersandt8904 it is the right word, I was wondering what the right word would be, it’s magical, it was so crazy out there with that odd looking and cool looking cloud and sea smoke
That is definitely one for the books. Gorgeous! 👍👍
When I got done recording, I knew it was one of my favorites. Personally, it could possibly be my number one favorite just because of the conditions out in the lake, it was so spectacular. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to write this comment and watch the video.
Hi Mike, missed you live by about 50mins,how beautiful everything was
Thank you so much for watching, all the best you my friend. I hope you’re having a wonderful Friday. I had a lot of fun recording this ship.
Beautiful morning. Thanks, Mike. Now go warm up!!!
Luckily, I’m warm now, it was definitely cold out there. I had a lot of fun recording the beautiful scenery and ship for everybody. Have yourself a fantastic Friday.
Great video! Than you for putting it together.
It was truly my pleasure, thank you so much for watching, it was a beautiful ship with ice on it. I really truly had fun recording it.
Thanks!
Awesome sight
Thanks for watching this icy ship video, you have a fantastic Friday my friend. All the best to you and yours.
Hey boat friend thanks for being out there in them conditions with wind chill 25 Below zero in Peoria-IL tonight cool video love the colors
Good video Mike,Thank you
Ed, I’m glad that you enjoyed the video.

Stunning video, I’ve enjoyed watching the traffic with you this season.
Thank you so much for watching, this definitely could be ranked as my personal favorite video of all time just because of everything that happened in it including the weather, but that lake, see smoke and sky was unbelievable to me
Myscreen saver I love that boat that's Mike for braving the cold to do this big hugs
It was my pleasure being out there, I was totally in awe, looking out at Lake superior with those beautiful conditions. The ship had ice on it too. It was unbelievable thank you for watching the ship video.
Cold but gorgeous
This is one of the funniest videos I’ve ever recorded because of the conditions on the water. It was fantastic and beautiful.
You are a true Minnesotan 😨 Thank you for these videos. Totally enjoy them.
The most GLORIUS sky ever
That opening shot would make such a gorgeous jigsaw puzzle! What a view !
It was so incredible watching that ship covered in sea smoke out on Lake superior in the cold weather. The ship had ice on it as well.
Very “atmospheric”! 😁But seriously you make a great video, as many here have already said. 👍👍
What a beautiful morning!
Kelly, it’ll be hard to replicate that beautiful situation out on the lake and sunrise in the future
Mike, you could easily make some prints of this beautiful arrival and sell them in your on-line Boat Friends Duluth shop!!!!
Just freakin Beautiful.
Thank you sir for braving the warm Tropical Minnesota Winter
Now go get a Hurrican from Grandma's!!!!
Wow! Great videography, Mike. The opening is SPECTACULAR! Great videography, Mike.👍 EDIT: Correction - the ENTIRE video is SPECTACULAR!!
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the opening of the video, that covered in it was absolutely unbelievable, and to see the ship covered in. It was so fun to watch. Thank you for taking time to watch the video and write a comment my friend.
Wow what a ship and setting was perfect
I still can’t get over that. I was able to record all of that developing with the sea smoke, the ship in the sky, it was unbelievable. Thanks for watching this video Ken, all the best to you.
Master salute for the layup!!! Poor sweet horn, so cold and trying to push through!!! So cold, Mike!!! That canal smoke is so beautiful.
@elizabethw4519 it’s all my pleasure
man i love your videos . many thanks from me across the pond in the UK
Oh that looks cold! Bbrr...
Have a good one Mike!😊
Lumpy, as long as you like it, I’m good with that. All the best to you brother.
Winter Magical Wonderland...Beautiful!
I agree, there was a lot of magic out there in lakes superior
Mysterious and magical at the same time. Frigid beauty. The Munson appears out of a cloud! Great video!
What a wonderful word, magical, that’s exactly how I would describe what I saw looking out at the lake with the sky and sea smoke, it was unbelievable, thank you so much for watching the ship
Absolutely breathtaking. Lucky you that you get to see it in person! Thanks for posting! Stay safe and warm.
Absolutely picturesque marine scene. Thanks for your effort and patience in capturing and sharing the moment.
Thanks friend, I appreciate you taking a few moments to leave a comment and watch the video. I hope you have a blessed Friday night.
Boat friends, check out this awesome band right here! ua-cam.com/video/yMG-Mi9I0-k/v-deo.htmlsi=VAmkUjqXp-LFa-dh

Beautiful video Mike. Love that we got a captain’s salute to welcome the crew home safely
My favorite part is the captain went for the captain’s salute. Even though the horn was frozen, he kept it rolling.
My favorite video so far! Thanks for sharing. Sure going to watch this again. Thanks for enduring those freezing temperatures for us. Now go warm up!
It definitely could rank number one to me all time, I love it that much. The lake and the conditions that I was able to record were second to none.
You took us with you Mike. I think you did a great job trying to convey the feeling of being there. @@vibewithmike

@thejerseyj5479 that’s still here, brother

How many ships will winter in the docks in this area?
There’s a total of of eight ships that are doing the winter layup in the area. I have to tell you, Janet, even though it was cold it was one of the most beautiful scenery situations I’ve ever recorded with a ship.

I can well believe that, as even the video was breathtakingly lovely!

@brupolwch I’ll miss it if it comes on Monday. I hope it does come on Sunday but we’ll see. The wind looks kinda high in the Duluth area so they might anchor until Monday morning.
Moin Mike. My goodness, this is really cold. WOW. Cheers buddy from a warm home hahaha : - D
: - ))))@@vibewithmike
Well, Mike, you hit it out of the park again. Just want to thank you for letting me know about the other chat. I asked them if I was welcome there and for sure they said yes. Nice to see you in and out of there.
Dennis, I’m glad that you went over and checked it out. The people on the Soo live cam are the best. It’s the best UA-cam live stream out there. There’s nothing better. ua-cam.com/users/liveU6-IMHRLy2c?si=F0ZtJZ0Ank8-SsXI
Oh, I think I know of one UA-cam live that is better.
😂👋⛴️👍
This amazing video has it all, ship, ice, sea smoke, unbelievable. Fantastic. Thank you. Mike
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate those beautiful conditions on the lake ever again, Ellen
Just got a chance to see this mornings video . Beautiful!
Good Morning America
Thank you Mike
Thank you Michael, I appreciate you taking time out of your day to watch this video and leave a comment
Wow... that sea smoke makes this video look mystical, especially viewing the Munson appear from the sea smoke.
@@vibewithmike I hope it does Mike... I will be looking out for it! 🚢⚓🛳
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate this event at all, the beauty out on that lake was extremely mystifying and different, in a good way, I’ve never seen it like that before
That was a really beautiful piece to close out the Munson’s season with. You really done her proud.
Wow! Incredibly beautiful environment, colorful sunrise, sea smoke, ice, clouds, & the JGM! Nice vid, Mike! I really enjoy your narratives & heartfelt sentiments for us boat friends. 🚢⚓
I couldn’t believe how majestic it looked. Thanks for your comments they mean a lot. 🚢
Super awesome, Mike! Thanks for braving the cold. So, so beautiful with the sunrise and the ship!!!
I hope I get to record a video with spectacular conditions out in the lake like this in the future
Stunning ship and stunning shots Mike! And boy that does look cold! Minus 7 overnight here in uk and that felt cold enough
@@vibewithmike it’s a great chilled channel you have here I love it . I’m looking forward to lots of American trips this year and to find some good hot sun 😂 and yes definitely wrapping up
@amfwelsh awesome!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful sunrise with us! Welcome home John G. Munson.

Hi Mike, I appreciate your video 🌞We been stuck in house 🥶 for 5 days. Looking forward to the thaw coming next week.
Take good care my boat friend 🇺🇸1952 and still sailing ⚓️
I’m so glad you were able to watch this video. This will go down as one of my favorite videos of all time because of the conditions on the lake in the ice on the ship. I will never forget this one. It was unbelievable. Thank you so much for watching.
It doesn’t get more winter beautiful than that!! The sea smoke with sunrise just incredible! ❤
Thank you for braving the bitter weather for us
And thank you for taking time out of your day to write this comment, it really means a lot. I hope you are doing well. Happy Monday. All the best to you and your family.
Mike from Canada hi Mike you're absolutely right this content is amazing like the sky is breathtaking couldn't get better thanks for your dedication ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I will never forget looking out at the lake and seeing how crazy and cool that looked
Beatiful video. Fantastic sun rise! Awsome job Mike! Thanks for sharing.
Paul, thank you for taking time out of your day to watch the video and read the comment. I don’t think I’ll ever look back and say there was a more interesting video to record. That lake was unbelievable that day. Did you see the ice ship? Take a look. ua-cam.com/users/livenA7-f7ITy54?si=yZuv9j-2eoYxzfnw
