This video was recorded before the recent Balance Data Slate. With the recent points reduction I would say these big tanks are even better! Side note: I wouldn't change the position of the any of the Superheavies in the list. At the end of the day, what makes a big unit like this good or bad is the abilities they have.
Took 2 baneblades and a stormlord with the rest of my army inside against a Tau gun line in 8th. Was fun as the stormlord made a breach, parked on the commander and 30 guardsmen with fixed bayonettes jumped out 😂
Super heavy full of ratlings. They jump out shoot jump back in and refire every turn. 30 ratling sniper shots each turn. Characters beware. Really we can go all in with 15 ratlings and Sly for double shooting with 3 heavy weapon team for 9 extra las cannons in a Stormlord. It's only 885 points.
The soviet tanks had machineguns. Not rifles. It was because Russian heavy tanks would travel in convoy with their barrels facing to the rear. The winter war show war demonstrated that they wanted something to deter infantry assault.
My hellhammer has the storage bins on the back of the turret so the lasgun isn't visible. I think out of all the years me and my dad have had it, I personally have only remembered to fire it like once
In defense of the Hellhammer, it can still shoot its Blast weapons, just not at the unit that's within engagement range to it, and it doesn't get a -1 to hit when doing so. The advantage the Leman Russ Eradicator and Demolisher get is that they can target units within engagement range of them with their main weapons (not with sponson plasma cannons, tho)
Firing deck let's you do some fun things with Ratlings. Movement phase, get out. Shooting phase, fire your precision shots, use shoot and scarper to reembark. Now fire your sniper rifles again, with the firing deck, because now they're considered weapons the stormlord is equipped with and which you haven't shot with yet. Works as well with the scion blob mentioned in the video, but then you can't have anything else inside. Also, never forget to bring a Techpriest-friend for your superheavy of choice.
It must be remembered that the hellhammer mounts 4 lasers, 5 twin-linked heavy bolters, 1 automatic cannon, 1 DEMOLISHER and 1 heavy stubber. It is a tank with a very balanced amount of dakka and anti-tank and is not useless if you get stuck in hand-to-hand combat.
The idea of failing to wound a gretchin with a Volcano Cannon has me laughing so hard. The largest explosion the grot has ever seen and it basically just leaves him standing there covered in soot like in old cartoons, where he'd then just shake it all off.
I've got a list that is inspired by my 8th edition love of LoWs and it contains a baneblade, Shadowsword and Stormlord. Super happy they're placed where they are 🥰
I have an old Forgeworld Stormsword (which is incidentally the only superheavy I have painted) and I actually had no idea there was a new 'version' in the Octoblade kit. Of course, I've also got the cannon magnetized so I can swap in a PBG and turn it into a Stormblade so I'm kinda sad that didn't make the list.
After balance update, twin heavy flamers are obsolete. You can't overwatch with them anymore so they lose the best benefit of flamers this edition with all the disadvantages remaining.
I've built up my baneblade to where i can build 4 of the 8 variants: Baneblade, Shadowsword, Banesword, and Stormsword. For display and possible play, I'll leave it as a Baneblade. Primarily for playing though it's going to almost always be a shadowsword and it'll be the designated tank/monster killer. I could have gone through the extra effort to make it possible to do all 8, but I didn't see it as worth it if I don't think I'll ever run it as anything but the 4 variants I mentioned above. If I really want to have the other 4, I'll get a second Baneblade box and put in the effort; but for now I'll stick with what I've got.
I feel like you do the Doomhammer dirty in your review. The short range is an issue but the strength and AP are good. The avg dmg against vehicles and monsters is 9.5 which is great and although the number of shots is worse than some blast really helps mitigate. The transport capacity of 26 gives it tactical flexibility and can mitigate the issue of being tagged in combat… Catachans with flamers or ogryns can help stop any tagging. 26 is also more than 2 chimeras and most importantly means you can take a 20 man + cmd sqd + other leader blob. The idea of a stormlord bang bus with 12 ogryns doesn’t feel very likely but 6 in a Doomhammer seems quite do-able. I think the Doomhammer deserves to be ranked higher up in the list
Any thoughts on the Stormblade since it wasn't covered? Probably not as appealing as it used to be as the other chassis went down in points and it remained the same, but it is a super-heavy with quadruple sponsons and a hunter-killer(!) for 415 points. Worth considering or is the main gun too underwhelming?
The stormblade feels like a weird version, higher AP than most guns, but lower strength (9 or 10), only gets 4 damage at the risk of hazardous (which will give it 3 wounds everytime it fails). Why bother when you can do a stormsword or banesword with better damage output and cooler abilities that can cause MW in an aoe?
What about the Macharius or the Stormblade? Stormblade is ALOT of tank with a pretty nice gun for 415 pts and the Macharius a not too shabby in the low 300 range.
I do think stormsword can flex into medium armor, especially if it stands still. You will prock 3 lethal hits as well as the sustained hits so even wounding on 5s you get 7-9 wounds usually in a 3 or 4 up. 4 up you get 7-9 damage through. If you high roll sustained or lethals it can get crazy
I wonder, can the mortal wounds caused by the Armour Obliteration ability of the Quake Cannon, trigger another another deadly demise on 3+ if it scraps of the last wounds of a nearby model? That would be a wonderful chain reaction explosion.
About the Hellhammer. It's true it can't shoot its blast weapons into the current combat, it can however be harder to tie down in combat since you get to shoot your lascannons, stubber, autocannon, flamers and heavy bolters at no penalty. You are still allowed to shoot your blast weapons out of combat at no penalty as well, but not into your current combat.
I had some thoughts recently, why not do a leaf gold baneblade? It should work out because of the huge panels and real leaf gold is actually quite cheap.
Can someone post the chassis and turret dimentions for the Stormsword/Baneblade? Its literally nowhere online and i'm wanting to make a cardboard proxy to play vs friends
Hi here you go Height with tracjs 99 mm w/out 89 Wide of track module with spoonson 53mm w/out 35mm length of track module with track 220mm w/out 190.5 mm hull wide 69mm with both trachk modules 140 mm ( without sponson)v vvvvv
I like using the stormlord and throw some lascannon HWT so I’m shooting 10 lascannon shots total, for my anti tank. 20 main weapon shots and 15 heavy bolter shots for anti infantry. Also the top two variants are spicey, I like.
Pretty sure you don't get to scout move with that combo unfortunately. 1, all embarked units need the ability. So as soon as you embark the Ogryns that condition isn't met. 2, I'm fairly confident that confering the scout move only works for dedicated transports, and the Crassus is classed as a superheavy unit.
As a quick rules question on the Banehammer, if you used the tremor shells ability (and they passed the Battle Shock) and then they used an ability or strategem to make the unit unable to be targeted (like the Nurgle strat in CSM) and you had to target another unit could you tremor that new targeted unit?
It's funny how you consider a Hellhammer with 4d6 shots (minimum 4, average 14, maximum 24) bad, and yet a Banehammer with 2d6+3 shots (minimum 5, average 10, maximum 15) "finally a reliable number", and a Shadowsword with d3+1 shots (minimum 2, average 3, maximum 4) "mitigated by blast" (if you're using the Volcano Cannon against a blast target - you're using it wrong).
I wonder how viable it would be to take a Stormlord and a Shadowsword into an army? Big ol' brrrrtt dakka against infantry and 96" range Titan killer... With aditional infantry of course🤔
I brought a Stormlord and a Banesword to a game on Sat... That ***** TSons player turned off the armor and inv saves and proceeded to kill them with reroll hits, reroll wounds, bolters. I STILL think that he was using more CPs than he had...
Now do correct me if I'm wrong, but with the detachment rule Born Soldiers, used with a Stormlord, if the Stormlord doesnt move would that not mean that all the weapons you are shooting with gain the ability lethal hits? Which would make it pretty good, I would imagine.
Now Baneblade is down to 480pts, and since it's kinda anti-everything thing it's quite solid choice if your army is already has any kind of defined vector of development - let it be anti-infantry or -tank.
Pardon my ignorance, I am new to 40K but the rule for the Stormlord is if noone else is in the transport 1 unit can reload back up in it? seems ok I guess. If you load up they would just shoot someone else right? Am I reading this wrong and missing a trick?
Imho you have done the Doomhammer dirty today. With 455 being quite cheap and its more Vehicle Oriented MainCannon its the perfect Ogryn Firing Deck :)
My first game in 10e I brought 2 doomhammers and tabled my opponent so hard my local group won't let me bring a doomhammer anymore. I wish I was kidding.
I just don't see it! Other supers have better Anti Tank main guns and there are much better transport options. Im not saying its a bad tank, it just doesnt do anything better then another unit in my army :(
i think you're ranking is great in terms of damage focus and killing focus, BUT, as a plyer that loves the oppression towards the ennmy, i'd have to go for the stormlord, its carry capacity can quickly change a couple tanks, artillery and such to a cadian filled map, its probably the best tank for point control and theres still leman russes or others strong enough to take our armored ennemies
Personally I like my doomhammer. Magma cannon gets the job done, It is not a "titan" killer. Keep its shots on T11 or lower monsters and vehicles. A lot of things look bad on paper, and it is going to depend on what your facing, Magnus, Angron, belakor, wardogs, Russ's all get puddled pretty quick. If your not getting the D6+6 damage, your doing it wrong. Played a 2,000 the other day, my doomhammer's Magma cannon got about 100 wounds dished out Take the melta tip off, and you have a Banehammer. I like to keep just a techpriest, and a squad of 10 in it. The ability to pile out and "do" something is nice. regen on tank, 4+inv after.
I have always been bullish on the stormlord. Driving up to a center objective (with an OC 8 model) that has some of the best durability the guard can provide, clearing away infantry in mass and then vomiting out 40 warm bodies for your opponent to chew threw is a very valuable asset to any mechanized or tank heavy guard list. Its not a bad option for infranty lists that want to brawl for the center right away. It was good in 8th, it was good in 9th (for the like 4 months guard had a codex) and its great in 10th now that you wont be shot off the board turn 1. ..unless your playing eldar. but, ya gotta kinda learn to deal with the top faction no matter what. If thats what your after, guard kinda isnt the faction for you anyways.
@@miafillene4396 I always just say "Volistad Pattern" because it's the one from Final Liberation and the old Epic models. My physical one is the Forgeworld one for 30k with a Macharius turret so it has the two twin turrets. Saw it on Facebook a while back and it turns out it does fit great.
Having used the Doomhammer recently, I would definitely take it again. It was extremely useful in murdering a Predator and a Land Raider in a single salvo, and the 2 infantry squads I had packed inside were just icing on the cake. I disagree with the Doomhammer assessment, its main gun is fairly useful in my experience
Man, I think it would be hilarious if the stormlord counted as a dedicated transport and could get scout moves if you tossed 40 catachan in it. Too bad they can't overwatch anymore. 4 Twin heavy flamer, 8 flamer from firing deck, plus everything else would be hilarious
I took a stormsword to a tournament a couple of weeks ago, pre-balance dataslate. I played 3-1-1, won against eldar 90-87 and tied against necrons. I can say the stormsword is f****** crazy, here are some of the deeds: Killed an avatar in one volley Did 45 wounds to a land raider Killed 3 broadsides in one volley Together with a rogal dorn, killed an entire 10 man brick och lychguard. Yeah so...stormsword is pretty good :D. The d6+2 dmg is crazy. The ap4 ignores cover cuts through EVRYTHING. Noone expects it. Everyone thought i was just little Timmy who wanted to play with his baneblade 😂
For me it had always been the stormlord and the stormblade. One had the Vulcan mega bolter the other has a huge plasma cannon. Rule of cool always wins for me always has always will.
What GW did to the hellhammer in 9th and didnt undo in 10th is just plain criminal. Like when the main weapon is one of the lowest strength/AP/damage weapons on the whole vehicle, you know you screwed up
@@hammer1349yes, but you still have a lot of dakka. Baneblade have -2 but not ignore cover and less dakka, stormlord have more dakka but -1 and str6 without ignore cover and No demolisher, no autocannon. Hellhammer its a nice allrounder tank
It's kinda funny, last time you made one of these videos I'm pretty sure you called 3D6 shots pretty reliable, while now you call it casino. And I'm really not convinced 2d6+3 is really that much better as you've said. Sure, slightly better floor, but if those are your rolls that's not really going to save you.
Hear me out. Fill a stormlord with 9 mortar teams, infantry squad with mortar, and a platoon command squad once again with mortar team. 11d6 shots on 5+ with heavy, indirect fire. One order from leontus gives them all +1 BS

Not even a second chance for the baneblade ? Sad

Is the Baneblade a bit better? It's no longer the most expensive, and more of a value in comparison to others, some of whom didn't drop points at all.

Interesting hellhammer fact, in editions past it had a random lasgun stuck onto the back of the turret that gave you an extra shot! So random
I miss little things like that but I’m glad it’s a little simpler now.
It's based on Russian tanks in ww2. Lots of them had rifles sticking out the back of the turret to deal with infantry getting too close.
The soviet tanks had machineguns. Not rifles.
It was because Russian heavy tanks would travel in convoy with their barrels facing to the rear. The winter war show war demonstrated that they wanted something to deter infantry assault.

So, in essence, swords are better than hammers and blades.
Someone knows where to get some extra sponsons for a fair prive?
The Stormhammer!
Arkurian pattern or standard?
We kicking off Kriegsmass with a long ass superheavy painting stream or hwut?
Could probably spam heavy weapons team in the storm lord with lascannons
Stormlord with cheap tanks with good guns supporting it?
I took a stormsword to a tournament a couple of weeks ago, pre-balance dataslate. I played 3-1-1, won against eldar 90-87 and tied against necrons. I can say the stormsword is f****** crazy, here are some of the deeds:
Killed an avatar in one volley
Did 45 wounds to a land raider
Killed 3 broadsides in one volley
Together with a rogal dorn, killed an entire 10 man brick och lychguard.
Would I be the that guy if I give 4+++ to Baneblade?
My banebladd got bi-shotted by two mutalids on turn one 😢
What GW did to the hellhammer in 9th and didnt undo in 10th is just plain criminal. Like when the main weapon is one of the lowest strength/AP/damage weapons on the whole vehicle, you know you screwed up
with the abundance of cover in 10th edition, -1 and ignore cover it's technically like having -2
@jaimevilacastro4614 only strength 7 though and most basic infantry still get atleast a 6+ maybe even a 5+ most of the time
@@hammer1349yes, but you still have a lot of dakka. Baneblade have -2 but not ignore cover and less dakka, stormlord have more dakka but -1 and str6 without ignore cover and No demolisher, no autocannon.
Hellhammer its a nice allrounder tank
Shadowsword without place for suspicion
Yep, paint it gold, all gold and no other color so the new line of Custodes can girl boss with it.
stormlord as though anti infantry, a few las cannon boys riding the deck and u got take on all comers
Sad Maccarius noises.
Don't bring a hammer to a swordfight.
Idk why you don't like tranport man
Marauder Destroyer
I save the super heavies for Epic :)
I have just made a list with bane sword and shadow sword a rogal dorn and Russ executor and the kaskrin with castellans and lord solar gonna have it's first outing against necrons...... He told me that necrons don't die....... We will see about that unleash hell and fire and death to the unholy metal skeleton robots you shall die to the hand of the emperor!!!!!!
Triple super heavy... triple enginseer... leontis. Just saying.
doomhammer is amazing try it
Stormhammer is best superheavy.
No rules, tho 😢
