I got to know of Jim at the age of twenty I had my first born Son I was visiting with family away from home and my boyfriend who became my husband thought I was cheating played He!ll have to go I have been hooked ever since I am now 82 will never forget Jim I love him ❤ forever thanks 🙏,from the Caribbean thanks for the memories and opportunity.
I remember both my parents playing his songs. He had the most beautiful controlled voice I had/have ever heard. My husband and I were in Nashville one year and decided to take a tour of his home and his bus which was parked right outside. While there we met Mary...she was so friendly and talkative. I was surprised at what a humble home they had, it seems this was not their home while he was alive...can't recall the whole story? I believe she no longer lived there if I recall correctly...but she showed us around and we were quite taken at how friendly she was. She was in no hurry...rushing us around...just took her time and showed us many of his items which were still in their home.
When Jim talk just like he is singing well I can tell the whole world we will never get another voice like Jim reeves again

In 2000, I was in downtown Dubai. A record shop was playing Jim Reeves on an outside speaker, so I went inside the shop. I was so pleased to see how much the owner of the shop appreciated Jim Reeves. The music sounded great. So, Jim Reeves really was an international star.

I was born Feb 1964 and grew up in Australia listening to Jim Reeves records mum played while she cleaned the house. His music remains a part of me from the 1960's to now in 2020.
I bought this book and it sure is an eye-opener. Jim Reeves should have been called before the WARREN COMMISSION to give testimony about seeing Lee Harvey Oswald in the audience at the LONGHORN BALLROOM in Dallas Texas on at least two occasions in company with Jack Ruby. Jim performed in a Dallas club co-owned by Ruby so this may have been his sister's nightclub as well.
Absolutely mind-boggling but a very well researched book on Gentleman Jim.

Back in the 1970's as a child I wrote a letter to Mary Reeves asking if there was going to be a movie made of Jim Reeves life. I never expected a reply, but sure did get one. Mary said she hoped there would be, but was wary of any movie tarnishing Jim's image and distorting events. R.I.P. Mary and Jim
I can remember when I was about 5 years old I used to like listen to a country and western show that plaied on a radio station every Thursday the show does come on every 8 o clock I used to go to bed every 6 o clock after I done have my supper at that time the old radio kept on until the show started sometime I felt a sleeping and if one Jim reeves song play I heard his voice and jump out of my sleep and listen to his song until it finished
I was also born to listen to Jim Reeves' music and records from my father and my great Uncle, in the interior of Nigeria, in the 70s. He was also popular in West Africa. He was a world phenomena, not only in America, Europe, South Africa, but also in West Africa, Asia and the middle east.
I recall the day Jim died. Our family was headed toward Arkansas from Washington State.
While listening to the radio a news bulletin came on with the news. The announcement was followed by Jim Reeves songs throughout the rest of that somber afternoon.

Hi it will 51 years this Friday the 31st July when I hear the Sad News of Jim Reeves. Died in a plane crash.I was living in Nairobi Kenya when the Sad News came on the radio n the world just stood in silence. I did see Jim when he flew to S Africa n I have a photo with his signed. The world lost singer but we still play his records to this day R.I.P. Jim.
I was born July 22, 1964, and was just days old when he died. I grew up listening to him sing and I am still a big fan even now 51 years later.

Here's where I need to write "my" Jim Reeves story. I remember when I was 6 years old and walking down the road towards my home singing Jim's "Bimbo". I didn't know who sang it or that it was a country song. All I knew was I loved the song and it made me happy when I sang it. Like almost everybody can tell you where they were when they heard President Kennedy died, I can remember the same thing when I heard of Jim's tragic demise. I was 17 at the time and it hit me so hard that I had to take a walk back in the woods to let this terrible news sink in. I was living in Norway at the time.
Fast forward to 1971 when I was 24 years old. I went on a vacation trip to Canada and drove a rented VW down to Nashville. I found Jim Reeves Enterprises in the phone book and rang the number. Joyce Jackson answered the phone and when I asked for Mary, Joyce told me that Mary was out playing golf but she would call me as soon as she got home. I thought yeah right! 4 o'clock Mary did call! She invited me out for diner. I could not believe my ears! At 7 pm Mary and Terry Davis arrived at my motel in their Cadillac. They took me to a nice Spanish restaurant , The Viscaya, where we had a wonderful dinner. At one point I asked her why she wanted to do all this for me, she replied: Well if anyone would bother to come all the way from Norway to look me up, this is the least I could do for them. After dinner, they drove me on a tour all through Nashville and showed me some sights. Then she said there was three things she told me to do the following day. First, she gave me directions to Jim's home so I could walk around on the property undisturbed and take pictures if I wished. Then she called Joyce and told her that I would be at J R Enterprises, and for Joyce to give me any of Jim's albums that I didn't already have! Third, I had told her how I would love to visit a recording studio while in Nashville, she sent me to Music City Recorders where she was currently dubbing some of Jim's songs that had not yet been released.
Every Saturday night I go to my neighbourhood pub for a beer and to sing some karaoke. I sing one of Jim's songs every time: This Is It!
Larry, thanks for your great book on Jim. Your solid research and writing shone a light on the real Jim Reeves. Although some of the information was hard to digest, I know now that it was the truth about Jim and the story needed to be told.

Thank you for Sharing this wonderfull video. Jims always been my favourite and in 1964, I was 5 years old and by the age of 7, I knew all (Most) of his songs by heart. Today I still listern to him almost every day. "One day we'll meet in Heaven" Jim. Hey, isnt that a great name for a Jim Reeves song. I can almost hear him sining it. I remember when I thought the music died was when I heard jim Reeves had just gone down n a plane. I grew up knowing him personally. He was a fine man and to this day I think of knowing him. He parked his bus behind a service station where my dad used to park his truck and I used to c him frequently and at that time I really didn't know about him til my dad told me who he was. When he died his wife asked if I'd haul his plane back to tx. I went out to where it was and after looking at the wreck and all the blood that was all over the inside it ,I told my dad that I just couldn't do it .

I’ve listened to Gentleman Jim since I was about 5 or 6 in 1960 in the Caribbean. I don’t know anyone that has heard him sing who was not a fan! If I could choose to have someone else’s singing voice, my choice would be Jim Reeve’s voice.

It sounds as if Mary (Jim's wife) was warding off the wolves that tend to gather after someone famous dies & she was making it clear that Jim left her in control of it all & Mary proved over the years to be a strong soldier for Jim Reeves music & memory & of course, this probably sent other's plans in this trash, but I say "God Bless Mary Reeves"!
it is one rotten shame he died so young and too soon I was 18 liked him from my teens till the present and really enjoy the book. Francesca

The part about his frequent nosebleeds is surprising in that he should have seen his doctor about that because it can indicate leukemia sometimes.H.pylori cause most stomach ulcers and is usually treated with pink bismuth (Pepto Bismol) and antibiotics. Belzer and Wayne still said his plane crash was a POSSIBLE sabotage,in their book "HIT LIST".If I live to be 100 we may never know all about the JFK murder,but I think many people would have lived much longer if he(JFK) hadn't been killed on Nov.22,1963.
I was 3 yoa in 1964, bought my first album in 1976, bought 1that can out 1980.Jim was a man, never met a man that didn't cheat on his wife.

jennifur sun It's unfortunate you have that attitude because the portrait I paint of Jim Reeves in my book is overwhelmingly positive. I've heard from pastors of all faiths around the world who have read my book, and seen the spiritual dimension to Jim's story: as one faithful struggle of a humble human soul toward what is good and righteous -- sometimes falling short, but never ending his quest. Jim had some flaws, as we all do. He was not a saint. But the overriding character of the man was one of gentleness, warmth, friendliness, sincerity and compassion toward others. I don't know where you're reading "Dirty Laundry" but the stories I tell have to be read in context, or you will get a distorted view of what's really in my book.
Larry Jordan hi Larry have a quick question i've tried on several web sites to find our about Jims band but there is no info about the guys themselves except their names do you have any? i gather all of them are now deceased. also did anyone do a book or something about the songs he recorded. i love music trivia of that sort but nothing much comes up on Wici or Google. did find out that one of the first songs of his i ever heard, not on record, but my late dad used to sing it to me was Penny Candy and it was written about an actual girl by her grandfather thanks, hope you don't hate me because our views happen to differ on certain things. i will agree that Jim had the most beautiful voice i have ever heard to this day, and hearing him sing Danny Boy wil alsways make me cry
jennifur sun James Kirkland is still alive and living in Texas. Bud Logan is in Nashville. Billy Harlan is in Kentucky. There are some others who played in the earlier days who are still alive.

One account was that Jim had even abused Mary in front of witnesses at his birthday party. Well, as the author of "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story," I spoke with others who attended that party and ALL of them were livid at the absurd accusations. As proof of Mark Twain's observation that "a lie travels halfway around the world before truth puts on its boots," these venomous lies about Jim abusing Mary were further reported by a British newspaper within the context of Mary Reeves' obituary when she died. My book deals with the real man; I did not whitewash anything. I taped interviews with over 500 people. NOBODY observed Jim being abusive toward his wife.

If he had bèen a wife beater Mary would have mentioned it long before that trash book by Streissguth. Read Larry Jordan's book. He interviewed credible witnesses who spoke of the love that Jim and Mary had for each other.
