Im Ghanaian. I remember my brother jubilating and hugging my neck, suffocating me when the kick was awarded. Told him to keep calm till its scored and lo and behold, Gyan blew it. My heart sank. After the shoot outs, It was the quietest Accra has ever been to me. Not even a car horn, a voice. Everyone was either indoors watching or gathered around a public tv/screen, all stunned to silence. Unforgettable match.
wow thankx for sharing. I remembered this one so well and the exact place and time in Dubai. I said to my self if i can feel this way what about the Ghanaians ?
This match needs to be commemorated in a golden box-set. It's 1 of the greatest matches in the history of football. The story is incredible: An up-an-coming football nation with the hopes of a continent (Ghana) vs. the return of a legendary football nation with 100+ years of iconic history (Uruguay). A masterpiece.
Vtecification I love how historically significant this game was. The way it dramatically shifts during Gyan's penalty is almost Shakespearean; unprecedented in sport. It literally reversed the fate of Suarez (who instantly went on to be one of the best players in the world, and now the generation, ...and Gyan (who immediately went on to a mediocre season in the EPL and then to the middle east). And Ghana's and Uruguay's too funny enough.
Vtecification Ghana robbed?!?!?! Whatch the 2 offsides in the free Kick that Suárez was sanctioned with the red card. Uruguay was the one robbed in that match.
From Rwanda, I supported Ghana, my feeling was hurt to the extent you can not imagine, but I didn't know that after 10 years watching this will bring me the same pain I felt in 2010.
Not enough credit is given to Gyan for starting off the shootout after having just missed that big penalty and blasting in an absolute perfect high corner penalty. Takes a lot of heart to try that kind of shot after having just missed.
It's taking too much risk if you ask me, his kick in the shooutout was also unnecessarily high, that tendency of him is actually what made him miss the penalty during the game.
North America was on south America side , a Salvadorian living in USA cheering all of that Americans teams , also cheering for Uruguay in that match , pure adrenaline , sobbing until that very end , a roller coaster of emotions , when Ghana got that penalty kick i thought if Ghana wins this defeat will hurt because as a spectator i was giving my everything for America and Uruguay in that game , went he miss that penalty it was miracle for me Uruguay was still alive . That penaltys and that game were not for weak Cardiac person's . My nickname was loco 😜 and my favorite # is 13 , when loco Abreu won that game it was pure extacy , that pinnacle of that greatest Quarter final match i have ever seen . Since 1930 Eufa and Conmebol have been always on that top 2 best Continents on that world cup , If Ghana would had won it that order of Dual power would had been broken for that first time in fifa History it would have been 1. Eufa . 2. Africa . 3 . Conmebol. Legendary Match my finals words.
I am a Ghanaian but most Ghanaians never love this guy because of the 2010 World Cup saga but trust me every true fighter will do exactly what he did for his country and he has proven once 😭💛
Thanks for saying this about Suarez, most Ghanaians I see are still angry about this handball, as if they wouldn't have done the same thing if it could save their country from certain elimination.
From Morocco watching this again after 12 years gives me the same painful feeling that i felt 12 years ago.. Africa's dream vanished from existence after that penalty that broke all the africans hearts but still one of the most beautiful appearances of african nations in the world cup 💚
One of the most emotonial football game's i've ever seen. Would've been awesome to see Ghana going to the semi finals. Just to think that whole Africa was going trough. I don't understand why he kicks high, he probably wanted to make an awesome finish that will go into the history books. Especially when it's a WC , just kick it inside the box, not in the corner , just in. So pity...

This game had everything you want to see in a football match. The great goal of Forlan, the hand of Suarez, the penalty missed by Pereira, the saves of Muslera, and the incredible final penalty of Abreu. .I'm Uruguayan and I can´t forget this game, I was at job and went out to the street to scream like crazy.

The foul before the last minute free kick was inexistent. They don't show it here but there are other videos where you can see that the ganhean player fells by himself. It woulded be so unfair for Uruguay if that penalty went inside the net. I was so happy for our South American brothers that day. You Africans can still keep trying, don't let yourself fall for this kind of things.
The match was like an action thriller movie. Am a Ghanaian and i should be angry/disappointed/furious with Suarez, but actually i admire him, that action of his saved the Uruguayan team that day, lol Suarez is a badass (i mean it positively)
from a Uruguayan, much respect to you my brother. If it were the other way around, I'd be mad yes, but like you, Id have to respect the sacrifice for ones country. 👍

I hated Ghana after they knocked the United States out of this World Cup but when this game ended, I cried for that team. I literally cried. They were less than a foot away from being the first African nation to EVER reach the Semi Finals of the World Cup. They played with such heart and spirit throughout the whole game and should not have lost the way they did

2020, m still watching this.. Gyan is incredibly brave; its utter unbelievable that he went on to take another penalty in the shootouts after the one he missed during the game... Proud and yet hurting moments for Africa
This is one of the best football matches I’ve ever seen in my whole life. I’m Brazilian and it doesn’t hurt me at all. And I don’t even like Uruguay. But that was furlan’s competition. Suarez saved Uruguay. Imagine putting your hand on the ball in the last second, I’ll bet he didn’t even think about it, he just did it like a reflex, then he’s crying leaving the pitch when the Ghana player missed the winning goal. So many emotions I can’t even put it into words. He exchanged the goal for a red card and a penalty and it was worth it. Ghana didn’t have the guts to finish Uruguay off, that’s football. Half technique and physical half emotional balance. And Ghana lost. I understand the pain for the Ghanan people but that was football. What an impressive match, I’ll always remember this day. If I were an Uruguayan I’d be so fucking proud
"World class free kick from a world class player" -- That is Diego Forlan! Both a technician and an artist on the field who is so versatile, who masters multiple positions with impressive precision!
+MyGameParadise Yes, you and i both! He not only brings skilled theatrics to the field but in all the interviews I've seen of him he responds so very graciously. There is a genuine loveliness about him that makes him more than a man, but a gentleman!
In my opinion, this was one of the greatest football matches ever played. Both teams fought tooth and nail from the first to the last minute. No shortage of great goals, drama, controversy, and historic moments. As a Uruguayan, I think Suarez did the right thing, but I ask all those who claim he cheated, if you were in his position would you not do the same thing? Is that not part of loving your country? Was he not penalized accordingly? Ghana didn't deserve to win any more than Uruguay did.
+Koda Dais Agreed, a phenomenal match. Im from germany so I didnt care who would win but the dramaturgy of the match... fuck me. Suarez playing goalkeeper and the last penalty so incredibly arrogantly taken- that is why I love football. If it would be fair 100% of the time it would be a way more boring game. After all its purpose is to entertain and this match surely entertained me like very few others.
***** Thats why it was, for me as a neutral observant, such an amazing experience. The world aint fair. It was like a drama. It could not have been more dramatic. Rules only exist to be broken. And as long as something like this only rarely happens, it is an enrichment to football.
Hahaha well ya, he usually gets really irritated when they catch his fouls, he just fought back for a second tho, he knew there was no way they didn't see him, still a smart play, a last resource.
2018 and Ghana couldn't make it to the world cup this year, it's so sad. The coincidence is that Ghana didnt qualify for the world cup because of Egypt. And Egypt lost to Uruguay in thier first game in the world cup.

I was watching this match at a bar with my best mate and his dad. The place almost exploded of amazement in the final moments. I remember when Suarez saved the ball. And I was like "wait, STOP what the hell happened?!". I then looked at the tv screen and saw Gyan firing the ball straight into the crossbar. A roar went through, and I just kept looking with a blank face. I have a hard time seeing that I will ever watch such a crazy game like this in my lifetime again.
@@MateyGardelOriental yeah thats what i was looking for the last 10 minutes, i didnt understand why they have 4 stars, but i guess the organization of these competitions was different back then
@@ivanbohun8377 Exactly. It was agreed in the Fifa Congress of 1922 and ratified in the congress of 1924 .that the tournaments organized in the "frame" of the Olimpic games with fifa rules, would have in dispute the title of WORLD CHAMPION.Starting in 1924 and ending in 1928 .After that and following the big sucess of those championships ,fifa decided to separate from JJOO and create their own championship. No more gold medals..The CUP was born and Uruguay won the first CUP,yes but they already had 2 world titles( 1924 and 1928)...Thats why Uruguay use 4 stars in the national shirt and others olimpic champions can not use it..
Off course we beat Gahna, that last free kick didnt existed and they were offside when they crossed it, nobody sees that, we dont give a shit, it took our team where it diserved to be, it was one of the best in the competition (with the best player)and you cant argue that
Haha, everyone hating on Suarez because they were rooting for Ghana. Had a man of your own country done the same thing, you would've praised him as a hero. :D
so your saying if i competing in the olympics so my competition wouldnt have as much of a chance and they got a headstart as a repayment their still running with 1 leg. same happend to ghana they were promised a goal but yet didnt recieve (yes they got a penalty but people dont seem to remember penalty's are still hard to do especially in front of a huge crowd.)

Best game of 2010. It was a cauldron of emotions and the tension was nerve-wracking. Thanks Ghana & Uruguay.
I’m Uruguayan, can’t wait for the rematch in this year’s World Cup ;)
Damn!!! Am a Ghanaian this still hurts me sooo bad! The memories sooo fresh!!!😭😭
I'm french and I LOVE THIS TEAM even if I was disappointed ! I LOVE GHANA !!!!
I was 8 and i cried. I watched this match from my village from Turkey with my grandfather.
Am watching this game right now and I have tears in my eyes!!
What a wonderful feeling it wld have been for Ghana and whole Africa if Ghana has made it to the semi finals!!!

tremendo robo
This game had everything you want to see in a football match. The great goal of Forlan, the hand of Suarez, the penalty missed by Pereira, the saves of Muslera, and the incredible final penalty of Abreu. .I'm Uruguayan and I can´t forget this game, I was at job and went out to the street to scream like crazy.

Never
Don t cry , nobody died, it was just a soccer game
The foul before the last minute free kick was inexistent. They don't show it here but there are other videos where you can see that the ganhean player fells by himself. It woulded be so unfair for Uruguay if that penalty went inside the net.
I was so happy for our South American brothers that day. You Africans can still keep trying, don't let yourself fall for this kind of things.
One of the best football matches in history, easily top 20 of all time.
The match was like an action thriller movie. Am a Ghanaian and i should be angry/disappointed/furious with Suarez, but actually i admire him, that action of his saved the Uruguayan team that day, lol Suarez is a badass (i mean it positively)
+kofiata ata Congratulations my friend. This is football. Suarez did what any player with passion for his nation would do.
this is the way all football fans should behave :)
from a Uruguayan, much respect to you my brother. If it were the other way around, I'd be mad yes, but like you, Id have to respect the sacrifice for ones country.

I hated Ghana after they knocked the United States out of this World Cup but when this game ended, I cried for that team. I literally cried. They were less than a foot away from being the first African nation to EVER reach the Semi Finals of the World Cup. They played with such heart and spirit throughout the whole game and should not have lost the way they did
True
Average Fusion I disagree with that . I mean they were facing Netherlands and then either Germany or Spain . Not an easy road at all

I gave a lot of pity.

Solo un uruguayo sabe que está selección le a derramado emoción hasta las lágrimas ,que lindo mi país y grande Tabarez

It was very clever from Suarez. He gave his team a do over, a second chance. And it was within all rules of the game.
Diego forlan was such a good player one of my favorites

Jaxon Agreed, them goals he scored in 2010 wc were too good
Yeah
Lmao, Suarez acted like he did nothing when he was carded😂😂😂😂
Fuckin hate him

What else would he do smh🤦♂️
Imagine stating the obvious
kay illa why?
Yes bro. I wanted Uruguay to win now I change my mind. Ghana had the hopes of a continent vs the history of a glorious football nation.
"World class free kick from a world class player" -- That is Diego Forlan! Both a technician and an artist on the field who is so versatile, who masters multiple positions with impressive precision!
+Maria Popovici He was the reason why I started watching the beautiful game! I have massive amount of respect for him!
+MyGameParadise Yes, you and i both! He not only brings skilled theatrics to the field but in all the interviews I've seen of him he responds so very graciously. There is a genuine loveliness about him that makes him more than a man, but a gentleman!
ghanamove
I’m from Ghana and I absolutely love Forlan! Great Player and a *fair* player.
I hate suarez tho
El partido de un mundial mas epico que vi en mi vida, como siempre la historica, mitica, campeona y grande Uruguay puede regalar partidos asi, orgulloso de mi seleccion y de ser Uruguayo!!!
Definately up there as one of the best world cup games in living memory. So much twist and turns and drama!
Aguante Mexico!!!
After all its purpose is to entertain and this match surely entertained me like very few others.
you're Fucking stupid
***** Thats why it was, for me as a neutral observant, such an amazing experience. The world aint fair. It was like a drama. It could not have been more dramatic. Rules only exist to be broken. And as long as something like this only rarely happens, it is an enrichment to football.
***** Thats what I was saying. Thats why its awesome.
Alain Baroja Yeah, thats why it was so fun to watch. I didnt care who wins, but everybody loves a good villain.
5:53 : Ref gives a red card to Suarez and Suarez is like " Who, Me ? "
Suarez is DISGUSTING.
+Kian M.Tamar he deserved the respect he got, such passion to do what he did for his nation ,anyone would've done it
Hahaha well ya, he usually gets really irritated when they catch his fouls, he just fought back for a second tho, he knew there was no way they didn't see him, still a smart play, a last resource.
+Professorlabcoat What did he do for his nation?
+Nice i hope that's sarcasm..

No more gold medals..The CUP was born and Uruguay won the first CUP,yes but they already had 2 world titles( 1924 and 1928)...Thats why Uruguay use 4 stars in the national shirt and others olimpic champions can not use it..
its 30 million peopple
Ghana and Uruguay played beautifully in this game
this match is so sad! Uruguay didn't beat Ghana, Ghana beat themselves.
Carlos Nieto So true unfortunately
Uruguay won Ghana
Off course we beat Gahna, that last free kick didnt existed and they were offside when they crossed it, nobody sees that, we dont give a shit, it took our team where it diserved to be, it was one of the best in the competition (with the best player)and you cant argue that

Ghanaians can never get over this day, forever in our hearts
I always cry and feel sad when I watch this game. Nevertheless, our men did a great job. They deserve to be acknowledged.❤️🤝✌️
This match literally tore my heart out of my chest, so good
Haha, everyone hating on Suarez because they were rooting for Ghana. Had a man of your own country done the same thing, you would've praised him as a hero. :D
i'd rather have my country go down with a good fight, than win by having someone on our team cheat. not a hero a disgrace
so your saying if i competing in the olympics so my competition wouldnt have as much of a chance and they got a headstart as a repayment their still running with 1 leg. same happend to ghana they were promised a goal but yet didnt recieve (yes they got a penalty but people dont seem to remember penalty's are still hard to do especially in front of a huge crowd.)
We love the game, so we play it beautifully, no corruption, man vs man, the black way.
