I think that you captured the theme of each song. The "Unforgiven" trilogy is the one of the most profound modes of artistic expression across genres and the manner in which you captured the essence of each song speaks to your insight as well.
I think this was the only way to truly end the Unforgiven trilogy. We look at the first song and we see a boy who grows up to be a man hated for no other reason than to be hated. In 2, we find someone who sees in this man something beautiful, something he has never known. Both have gone through so much in their lives, both rejected by the people who were supposed to love them. In this song, I kind of imagine the man dreaming/questioning this new found love. Does he really deserve her love, what he seems to forget is that the woman has been through something similar. They are both the only hope for each other's happily ever after. Yeah this song is quieter and has more mellow tone than the other two, but that comes with reflection. He is pondering his, and her fate, and if he is not careful, it will cost him everything. He must accept who he is and allow their love to heal their old wounds.
I can dig that.... Makes sense to me. it make more sense if it happened like today at the very latest.. And their story of course. I imagine they're broken hearts probably have a lot to offer to others who are in similar situations in their lives. ( I'd bet my life )
This is my Brothers funeral song. Rip my little bro. I will never forget you. He loved Metallica and so do I but this was my brother to a tea. His life was full of struggle, anguish and pain. Now his not suffering anymore and now his happy and even though I miss him and my heart is broken he's happy and that's all I ever wanted for him as I loved him so much. Until one day we meet again.
This song speaks to me as a man. I lost my little sister in 2012 to suicide at the age of 10 and 11, me being the 11yo witnessing everything. Hearing this song is helping me work through the things that have been buried deep down by monstrous amounts of emotions and pain. And this song is like a rehabilitation process for me. It's hard to go through but I understand every part of the lyrics in my own way, and it's like I'm able to move on with the trials and tribulations that I'm currently going through, and have gone through. This is by far one of Metallica's best. It's probably right beside unforgiven 1 & 2, nothing else matters, turn the page, one, enter sandman, etc. I just want them to make a "finally forgiven" and "exit sandman" that would probably be the topper on the cake for me.
Just reading this is traumatizing. I hope you're getting professional help aswell. I can't imagine what you've been through and are still going through. Take care.
the first two minutes of this song makes me wonder...how could you possibly concentrate so much emotion in this... and I gotta say...the guitar solo of that song is just simply breathtaking...it confirms me that Kirk hammet is definitely one of my top guitarists
It sucks that if a song like this would've come out in the 90's it would have been a classic. But now, people and some fans say this is just an ok song. What do you people want from Metallica?
Well look at Load....fans cried havoc because it was a departure from the Black Album. I think it would have been seen with mixed reviews unless it was post Load. I remember fans just crying sell out because the sound changed and they cut their hair.
This song is a genuine masterpiece. Who knew Metallica could come up with another classic so relatively late in their careers. Impressive. I eagerly await their new album.
This song is fundamentally different. Which people hate but I actually like. The first two are stories of his disdain towards others and how they affected him, but this is completely different- he's realized he needs to forgive himself
How an I be lost? If I've got nowhere to go? Search for seas of gold How come it's got so cold? How can I be lost? In remembrance I relive And how can I blame you? When it's me I can't forgive!
Samuel Bissonnette disagree, at least as for me I like all 3, all different but all good. Cannot compare. Lie growing up, different stages in your life, all taught something else, all good at least for something and/or because of something, should not compare just take/remember to what was good...
So many comments about which ones are the best and all i have to say is "give your love to all of them." They're wonderful masterpieces that can resonate with a multitude of people. I love this song and the two before it, i wish for the whole damn trilogy to be played at my funeral along with many other songs.
This song can have so many different meanings. It all depends on how can relate to the lyrics and how you take them. Just depends on who you are and how your life is. But a wonderful song in all!!!
Man, the lyrics moved me so much that she became one of my favorite songs of metallica "How can I be lost, if I've got nowhere to go? And how can I blame you, when it's me I can't forgive?"
I love the clean metallica stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love some Ride the Lightning or Seek and Destroy or Master of Puppets and all. But the softer, slow stuff really highlights Metallica's musicality and James' amazing voice. The whole Unforgiven trilogy is an absolute masterpiece. Metallica will always rock. Past, present, and future. 🤟
The guitar intro always reminds me a bit of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." Given the many classical influences in Metallica's music, it's quite possible that they were inspired by it.
James said in an interview, that he really had to fight for this song to get on the album. He said the lyrics really mean alot to him and are close to him.
well today i jsut discovered forgiven 2 and 3 and i must say the trilogy really hits a note with me it describes perfectly what im gone through, what im going through, and what i will go through
that fuckin solo... godammn, that's just about perfect.. the way it interplays with Hetfield's crunchy rhythm and just kicks you in the balls... goddamn...

If you listen to the words from Unforgiven 1 through to Unforgiven 3 maybe you will understand it is about the "unforgiven child" not pirates or anything else!
Unforgiven- I can't forgive them
Unforgiven II- Can I forgive you?
Unforgiven III- I can't forgive myself
Beautifully stated.
💔
I think that you captured the theme of each song. The "Unforgiven" trilogy is the one of the most profound modes of artistic expression across genres and the manner in which you captured the essence of each song speaks to your insight as well.
I thought I was the only one. Guns dud it with don’t cry, November rain and Estranged.

Sorry for your loss

Adler1945 I agree with you.
youre gonna see in like 10 years, this is going to be a very classic song.
True. Bands evolve...
It's a good song, but II was the best of these 3 I think. I like it though.
Wonderful song. That solo. The lyrics. Everything. One of the best songs they've created.
true
Forgive me??? Forgive me not!!!!

This song is a genuine masterpiece. Who knew Metallica could come up with another classic so relatively late in their careers. Impressive. I eagerly await their new album.
Guys, do you know, what I miss in this part?
"What I've felt, what I've known..."
This song is fundamentally different. Which people hate but I actually like. The first two are stories of his disdain towards others and how they affected him, but this is completely different- he's realized he needs to forgive himself
i guess, our protagonist became numb and unconscious of everyone around him because of blaming himself.

Idea: Listen to the song if you like it. If you dont, then dont listen to it. Sound good?
Most people don't understand that concept..
Then they either like and don't want to admit it, have jumped onto a band wagon, or are trolls.
Nathan Torres most people watch this cause they liked unforgiven 1/2
Samuel Bissonnette I would listen to metallica even if made a song just banging pots, they are gods among men and choices must not be questioned.
Samuel Bissonnette disagree, at least as for me I like all 3, all different but all good. Cannot compare. Lie growing up, different stages in your life, all taught something else, all good at least for something and/or because of something, should not compare just take/remember to what was good...

The best song metallica has produced. Love it so much.

I am pretty sure when Metallica retires, this song will have the same love as the classic Metallica like it deserves.
What? they won’t retire, don’t ever say that again..! ;)
they never quit they never stop cause they're metallica
"How can I blame you/when it's me I can't forgive?" boy, that one stings. reaaally really hard ._.

Good stuff right here. Metallica is the best.
For some reason i always imagine Edward Kenway from Assassins Creed singing this song.
David Hudson I can see that. or maybe Shay Cormack from Rogue. one of those two.

after 6:02 how the two guitars sync now thats a chill giver
YES

the love for metal spreads like fever!!! \m/
James said in an interview, that he really had to fight for this song to get on the album. He said the lyrics really mean alot to him and are close to him.
Best if the 3, and 1 was a classic.. Great, intro, riff, vocals, chorus, wonderful SOLO!!!, harmony, awesome.
This song is amazing beyond doubt. The orchestra at the start is beautiful.
it will be devestating when metallica retires. when they pass away i will ball like a baby
They wrote my entire life in their music if I had an autobiography it would be a book full of metallica albums
No one could explain ny life better than they have
well today i jsut discovered forgiven 2 and 3 and i must say the trilogy really hits a note with me it describes perfectly what im gone through, what im going through, and what i will go through

The Unforgiven I, II, and III have always made me think of Bruce Wayne/Batman tbh
That is a really cool fucking way to look at it
This song has helped me through a lot of darkness.... Long Live Metallica

If you change the title to Deez Nutz, people will click on it and be drawn to Metallica... Genius

what comes next, "the unforgiven: the prequel"?

Its all the best.. a great masterpiece..
Every unforgiven song has its own style and if you dislike it then you are NOT a true fan, because the song is awesome..
They have their own styles but each song Carries a bit from the other one in a poetic way
Good song...just didn't like how it started without the tune in the intro being used like in The Unforgiven and The Unforgiven II
StormFlight the intro is amazing
This song hits me to the core
Before my death, i'll want to listen to this song. And everyday, i'll listen to it.
Listen metallica over and over and over and still the best band ever

This song is so beautiful. I love the consistency, and its definitely my favorite out of all The Unforgiven parts
This song is about a pirate 😏
Never thought of it like that
ya lol
Jenna Paiva It could be about a pirate but the song is about forgivness and redemption
oh. I never really thought about that lol
Jenna Paiva it's a metaphor.. being lost at sea = being alone
seas of gold = happiness (or whatever)
5:32 his scream was actually really good
Probably the most heart-touching of the series
Especially that Piano and the whole message of this part
On drives home from work I let this play play as I sit behind the steering wheel. It puts a lot of things into perspective. A choice between love and family, and chasing the material wealth. It cuts deep but at the same time it kind of balances me out.

The introduction is just E-P-I-C
By far the best performed song on the best album they've ever produced. It's like they actually tried. Don't get the wrong idea just because of my name though. I'm a fan of both.
That escalated fairly quickly.
That really got out of hand fast.
I'm with you on that. Dave Mustaine was my hero in my teen years, and sometimes I feel his pain. But he knows the right thing to do is not hold a grudge, and there's really no since in it. Metallica is awesome and made great strides in heavy metal, bringing greater appreciation to this art.
Dave Mustaine knows what Unforgiven feels like damn well.
I have to admit I was a little confused when I saw deez nuts on my recommended
Nino Deluca deep down, you always knew
Sick song! that solo gives me the chills every single time! Damn!
In my opinion the best unforgiven yet
I hate how they didn't at least throw in the famous "Unforgiven" verse, at the end. Kept waiting for it.
What I felt, what I known
They should make the unforgiven IV for their next album
This is a fr bop ngl
I had the same thought when I heard the 1st one. After I heard 2nd one I was hooked on it. And when I got older, the 3rd one just made so much sense. I can't get enough of it.
This song correlated with a point in my life where the lyrics explicitly detailed what happened to me. This is why we love music.
Out of the trio, this one is my favorite.
If you listen to the words from Unforgiven 1 through to Unforgiven 3 maybe you will understand it is about the "unforgiven child" not pirates or anything else!
Yea. It's about personal struggle and eventual redemption
