True story. I lived next to a female strip club guard. I was confused, it looked like a beer commercial was being filmed in their driveway. I didn't have a cell phone yet, so to my husband's great disappointment, there is no video of this.

On another note I can tell you this. The girls made some serious money. But from what I saw one of biggest problems were their boyfriends. Almost always total f'in losers and a drain on their incomes. A few were smart about it. More than a few went to school and became nurses, teachers and such. One even became a psychologist. I'm still friends with a lot of them on FB these days. It's fun watching them grow into wives and mothers. Life goes on I guess. You can't work in that business forever. Bartender, bouncer or dancer. I know many unmarried men 40 years old or older. Their jobs require an amount of time, effort by them, that a traditional kids+wife life is impossible if they want to be successful in their work. Because of their work-til-you-win attitude, these guys have higher than average income. They also have minimal time to "court" a woman in a traditional sense. Strippers fill a demand for these men, who have more money than spare time. Simple supply and demand economics
Yep. I was one of those guys (though not a regular at any club) in Silicon Valley. I ended up quitting my $300k a year job (retiring) and going to SE Asia to find my partner. Found her after a five year hunt and we're happy with family. Good luck to you reader.
It's a pretty good deal for the club owners, for sure. They get to over-charge for drinks (strip club drink prices are usually 2-3 times higher than what you would pay in a regular bar), most charge cover and parking charges, and most of your staff pays you to work there.
That's because they are new girls. No one pays for experience. Actually with strippers, less experience pays more. Price all depends on location. Las Vegas or Cedar rapids Iowa 😂😂. Miami or Wichita Kansas. Makes a big difference.
Sometimes it is a means to an end. While traveling for business I came across one who was graduating from college in a week with zero debt and was going to teach her little sister the ropes; another that I got to know, used her earnings to become a business owner and also eventually a director at a company.
My favorite story of strip club regulation was that there was a law that an adult entertainment business couldn't be within X feet of a school. A strip club was found to be partially in the forbidden zone -- just by a corner. The solution was to build a wall inside, cutting off that corner, which kept the unseen activity outside of the zone. I wondered if they used that severed space for storage or needed to keep it completely sealed off for the safety of the nearby children.
The Boomers dying off or going into nursing homes is probably the end of the whole era of adult dvd toy stores, porn theaters are already gone, and soon the local stripclubs will close, save for a few of the Spearmint or Sapphire national brands. The younger generation doesn't carry cash, and that's a problem in a place like stripclubs. And you have a whole new generation of introverts who are comfortable at home using OF or cam sites. Why would they suddenly put themselves in a foreign environment where there's so many rules like cover charge, drink minimums, ATM fees, and all the scams that go on at these places?
I worked as a DJ at strip clubs back in the 90s. All the clubs paid me a token amount ($25), the dancers paid me a mandatory 10% "tip" so i had a pretty good handle on what they were making. Some made bank, some were barely getting by. Some did drugs, some did not. Some turned off-time tricks, most did not. The thing that surprised me the most was the masterbation. I would announce the current dancer, and then the next 2 dancers between every song. Then I had to make visual contact with those dancers. Can't see one? Gotta go track her down & make sure she knows she's next. Often they were in the locker room rubbing one out. After it happened a couple times, i asked why? Turns out rubbing yourself against even fat old men, for hours at a time, gets the juices flowing. Oh the other thing, most of my tips were in dollar bills, so I would come home with a wad of $200 or $300 and $1 bills. My girlfriend absolutely refused to take it to the bank. She didn't even want to touch it. I had to get up early and take it to the bank myself. LOL
Girls doing this job can earn more per day than most regular jobs will pay in a week. But not all will do that well, and there's also the caveats. Working long hours at night can cause long term health damage, and it can de-structure a person's social life. Also earning a lot of money very quickly can cause people to get very expensive addictions if they are not careful or have issues.
I'm glad you guys brought Dave on. He's well-respected in the industry. Too often, podcasts about stripping and strip clubs only interview dancers, which is kind of like asking servers about the restaurant biz. They have SOME information, but they don't have anything insightful to say about the business model or broader topics. Take tipping employees for example. It's usually presented as this predatory thing. The reality is that the club could pay the employees more and eliminate tipping. But there are two big negatives for dancers associated with that. One, girls are expected to tip based on how their night was. That incentivizes employees to help the dancers make money. Think of it like a performance bonus. Two, if the club is paying out more, it's going to charge higher up front fees to cover that money. It shifts more financial risk onto the dancers. Your average dancer doesn't really understand the incentivization structures. They're 20 and business management is boring. Not a knock on the girls, you could say the same about 20 year olds anywhere. Or anyone that isn't management and doesn't have to consider these things.
Dated an X stripper… it was hard for her to work a civilian job. The money sucks by comparison, the hours such, the excitement level is often low… etc… and having been ahhhh augmented she was still attracting sexual attention everywhere she went whether she was working or not… in her case she was doing well enough without it… not sure if she went back to it… I won't judge her… She was smart and motivated… I hope she is doing well… great gal…
I knew a Sargent who Dated a stripper went awol, came back. Was on M203 range, putting out a 🔥. Stepped on 40mm, granada didn't die got nuts injured, and went awol with stripper.
I lived with a girl who did this for a living. Mostly this video is accurate except the for crazy $10k in one night. Maybe, in Vegas, for a top level nationally known stripper, but otherwise, not likely. And, you have to average in all the Tuesday nights, rain or ice, etc. That's when the clubs are dead. Tipping the staff is accurate. There is always a Mama in the back room who gets the girls clothes ready for their next set, helps with hair and make up, etc. Don't tip her? You'll pay for it when the girl suddenly can't find her lipstick or glitter. And the DJ expects a big tip too. Don't tip him? He'll make sure the music when you are center stage is not to your liking. As for the cities zoning: That happened too. I knew the owner of one club and the city came in and rezoned, eliminating his business. He was nearly in tears. He'd put in his whole savings to build the business and suddenly....gone. My girlfriend went to another club but the vibe was never present and she left the business after a total of about two years. I'll add that it is not unusual for a medium size club to send out 500 W2s at the end of the year indicating extreme turnover in performers. The huge majority can't make it, their tips are poor, the hours grueling, they get tired of being groped, etc. Tough business and no matter how you cut it, it is a pretty short career so you better have a back up plan.....ie, education!
I use to like to shop at Walmart on Tramp Stamp Tuesdays. I suspected that strippers took off Tuesdays because that was a slow day so that’s when they went to Walmart to go shopping.
Lots of strippers went to college, don't fool yourself. They do it through college, then they get used to the money and some can walk away and some say "I might as well make it when I can."

@@geniferteal4178 Oh, she is, after the Wall Street crash a lot of women in NYC began (or resumed) working at strip clubs because they knew the guys who kept going to clubs were the bankers. I remember reading an article in New York Magazine about it.
From what I've been told by the dancers, it depends on the day. Mon - Wed will mostly be manager types because a lot of retail managers have those days off. Fri is mostly college kids. Apparently the dancers hate working Fridays because the college kids don't have much money.
Broadly speaking, there are 2 types of clubs. You've got gentleman's clubs and urban clubs. What this podcast is talking about is gentleman's clubs. What you think of when you think of strip clubs (based on media representation) is urban clubs. The target two very different demographics and are monetized in entirely different ways. For gentleman's clubs, the target demographic is generally businessmen aged 35-60. Those are guys with a lot of disposable income and they're willing to spend. They often are either socially awkward and so can't talk to pretty girls outside of the club or they work excessive hours and don't have tine for a relationship. What they want is attention from girls, both sexual and romantic. Urban clubs target a 20-35 demographic, largely drug dealers, gang members, athletes and musicians. Those customers have no problem landing girls, so for them the appeal is the conspicuous consumption. They're there to flex on other guys. You won't see then buy dances, because "I can get pussy". There it's about throwing a ton of money where other people can see you as a way to show off how much disposable income you can have. It's like having chains or designer clothes, the girls are like an adjacent status symbol. So the answer depends on which type of club you're talking about.
This Podcast misses to differentiate the business of the strippers from the business of the strip club owner, those are very different. Also, though the stripper’s intention may be to stay in business as long as she wants, it’s the market that will make that decision for her, and after 30, she will attract less customers every year.
Visited a few clubs out of curiosity....it was pathetic the manner in which the women attempted to size you up/flirt...truly no different than a child begging on the street in a 3rd world country.....my money stayed in my pocket....
"I've been to a strip club once and the story sounded accurate".... Anyhoo, this chick sounds like she worked higher end establishments, esp with the clientele. The spots that are more "urban", "backwoods", and "further out" often employ those entertainers that are not so educated, those that usually have kids, dependent boyfriends/girlfriends and those "habits". Can it be compared to a casino?
If you're a celebrity and go to a strip club, there will be gossip about how you behaved. I heard from strippers that a band member of Godsmack acted quite pretentious around club DJ's, trying to give too much advice.
Not to mention, why would somebody want to go to a strip joint, to see women, dance, naked who he can’t touch, and pay for overpriced water down booze. I’m 44 years old, I spent time in the military, and I’m a big fan of the female form. However, I’ve only had two experiences with strippers, and while they were fun at the time, the cost benefit was asked backwards. Seemed like a really bad waste of money, especially considering how weak the dollar is and inflation.
Sounds like a skeptical outlook on things then. With the rate cuts do you think it's best for us who are not conservative investors to focus on bonds or dividend stocks? I want to reallocate my 7-figure portfolio and I preferably want the assets with the best ROI.
Bonds are a safer bet. They offer good stable yields. But dividend stocks could make you a fortune if you know how to go about it. But it's always a good idea to work with a CFA. It streamline your strategy and help profit a lot.
I've been through the 'bonds are beating stocks' periods since the 90s with no bonds and with all aggressive stock mutual funds. At 66, my IRA and cash accounts are far more than I expected for my retirement. I can easily handle a worst-case 80% stock crash, Thanks to my CFA.
Mind if I look up your advisr please? I've worked in real estate for over 15 years and have neglected a major stock portfolio. This served me well when I was flipping and renting houses, however I need a different plan now.
‘’Aileen Gertrude Tippy’’ is her name. She is regarded as a genius in her area and works for Empower Financial Services. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
@godfreycarmichael I expect it's like any cash business - the smart ones declare a "logical" or "believable" amount. That enables one to deduct those expenses like boob jobs, shoes, and makeup, balance it out so the AGI stays in the lowest income bracket, and if you stay under the radar no one would be the wiser. I notice that she said "invest" at one point.
My GF used to come home with 300 to 1000$ nightly working at a 5 star hotel in NYC . Yes she was very pretty and the cliental were top notch. This was the 90,s so I really think those days are kinda over. I could be wrong. You can always serve drinks with your clothes on .
The music is often the best in the area. I had a dancer that recruited me to be a DJ at her club. I learned to do make-up and had a great time as a 23 year old man. The transient population of dancers was interesting, women that traveled a wide circuit.
A dancer at a club in key west asked me what kind of bike I had- told her a Heritage and she asked if she could ride with us back to Daytona-she met us the next day at a gas station in Marathon on her roadglide and we rode north into heavy rain-she was a trooper- 18 years ago 😎
Most dancers don’t really save all that money they make, the lifestyle is a lot of money being dropped which makes them more likely to indulge on impulse purchases. Those tend to do it for life rather than just as a temporary measure to make lots of money quickly and leave. That whole working through college is a fantasy and many are there in midlife, willing to do anything for $5. That part is sad.
Strange how women with advanced degrees from top ranked colleges use objectification to make more money than using their degree and yet men get attacked for objectifying women. Women need to get on the same page.

Clientele is changing. Look at the Japanese geisha. They focused on conversation skilks, poety and music to enchant a man and make him give everything he has to her. There will always be ways, its the oldest profession, you just gotta learn how to adapt to the changing cultures.
No. Sales and marketing is the oldest profession. Fixed it for you. Even warriors engineered marketing outcomes via tats, clothing, reputation, and deeds crafted to communicate an idea.
i don't think that this "story" is real... it's something you'd hear on npr... the average hourly pay for a stripper (according to zip recruiter) is less than 20 bucks
A lot of times, issues = habits. Other times, habits are caused by issues that may be caused by circumstances. We need Kamala to put that into a Venn diagram for us.
Not all but even the high earners usually live way above their means like most everyone, and it doesn't have longevity like a regular career, so many go broke like pro athletes.
Stripping is a young person's game. I have nothing against it. I only advise that you recognize you have a shelf life in the profession and for gods sake save as much of the money you make that you can! Because the only person you need to support is the old person you will one day be. So do it. Make the money. Save/invest as much as you can and someday that old (er) person you will be will sing the praises to the person you are right now. Just some thoughts. John~

Interesting about payment, back in 90s remember meeting strip bar owner in a BC fishery town. He had to fly in the strippers during the summer when the fleet was in for the salmon season. He told me for the week, he had one girl for 1300, one for 1400, and one 1600 for the week. They were expected to dance min 3 times a day. next week, he said he had Silcom week, girls with boob jobs, 1400, 1600, 1800 for the week and week after that was natural week, 1600, 1900 and 2400 for the week. said these two weeks for the seine fleet. since the crew were bigger partiers. I asked him how he makes a profit. said he said thru beer sales etc.. sometimes at night, he might charger cover. but also what helps in the contracts, he keeps money from polaroid.. yes yes.. back then, polaroid's for 45$.. said one night when the seine fleet was in.. he had 100 at least one night, which paid for girls' also read in other articles that 90s was maybe the heyday for stripping. how much girls could get paid, some porn stars were making more off of stripping than porn. some girls were getting into porn to get more status to make more in stripping.
We don't always have to associate dancing with school. At 1k / night, school is paid for in 2 months. That's assuming no guy offered to help you. It's a job. Most girls use it to live. The public just feels better about their purchase when they hear school. Girls typically do a 1 year easy thing right before they want to END thier dancing career.
Pretty good story. A lot of truth, and the fact that man is evolving or changing and it’s gonna be difficult for the industry. And she talks, just like the crawl looks in the picture.
Interesting, but not entirely true. “Most girls” don’t get plastic surgery to make more money. It really depends on the type of dancer you are, and the type of customer you want to attract.
Depends on location too. In some areas, especially near the coasts, fake tits are the norm. Shit, I wouldn't be surprised to learn they're a high school graduation requirement
3:34 …but at the Baddabing club that Tony’s gang owned there was 1 other requirement for aspiring strippers (nsfw but you can guess), and I’ll bet there are a few actual clubs that have a similar hiring policy.
Don’t they still prefer to be called dancers? 10 years ago in S FL, several dancer friends made $1000-2500 per weekend night working at one of 3 small-to-midsize clubs near PBIA. Most worked a few nights at these clubs and 1-2 nights closer to their homes, several of which were in a different county. DJ, house fees etc are norm. Many clubs have 2-3 girls dancing per shift and only a few have a large quantity… and then only on weekends before the feature, if there is one. Dancers don’t stay at a location that has too much competition unless it is always packed, and that attracts more attention from authorities.
I have hired female students for professional positions in Toronto and Canadian work permits typically state that the work permit is not valid for stripping or sex work.
I've got no idea about the industry. Have never been to a strip club except for the one in GTA 5. They hardly exist around me and I've never had the desire to do so. Then again I'm still young and I'd imagine that this is partially by introducing etc. that people get to know a club. Regarding the changes of the industry with the generational change ... I'd imagine going for an experience like "Only Fans but more" or like "strip club plus" might be something that could sell well. I mean the downside of OF is that the person is far away. People pay big money just for personalized pics and messages. Now I'd say they must love being able to visit the creator in person and vice versa. On one hand this could help advertise the club locally and on the other side this could be additional income for the strippers. Furthermore it could bind customers and improve the experience.
It actually is an every day thing in my life. I live surrounded by affordable apartments and have had many stripper neighbors. They don't look good in the sunlight. I once said to my husband, "Oh look! The strippers are tanning topless in the yard!"😂 He hasn't forgiven my for what he saw. He pomises he'll never go to a strip club and I believe him. We've seen too many of them getting their mail in just thong underwear.😭
Dude you painted this like she’s a saint. She “ran that guy up” for $10,000 means he passed out and they fleeced him for all they could. I’ve seen how it works. They’re morally bankrupt.
Nude dancers are not strippers. Striptease is a pre-1960s burlesque art form where the performer slowly takes off clothing articles in a humorous dance in front of a theater audience while an orchestra plays campy music.
It's a myth that strippers never date customers on a regular, normal basis. I know, and one I saw for about 4 years could bring in $3k on a good night or more. But $3k average on Friday or Saturday night 6 hours. Top strip club and she was an absolutely stunning beauty. But I hung around a bunch of her stripper friends, and although not all did as well as her, most do really good. Depends on club and how hot they are. They party like animals. Coke is the choice. Heavy drinkers. Love to gamble. 70% hook on the side. I initially bought this girl drinks and tipped her well atvher club but no back room or anything. But we got to know each other well and started partying after hours and it lead to a dating scenario. We treated money while dating like a back n forth. I'd pay, she'd pay... for coke, going out doing whatever. I never treated it as anything more than a good time. I was way older than her. It was just having a great time. It was a very interesting 4 years. I'll say that. Interesting buisness interesting women.

LOL
Worked 17 years in the biz...very factual from my experience in AZ, GA, CA butc that was another lifetime ago.

Yeah. Addictions like purses and shoes.
Strippers are like pro fighters. Nine times out of ten they go out on their backs when it is time to retire.
They like profighters because they got a maximum of 10 years to get money
And spend the rest of their "careers" on their backs too.

@@tesmith47 If you say so. I wouldn't touch a stripper with a bargepole.
True.
You need to do flat rate mechanic/technicians next that work for dealerships!
Not unlikely for the right girl. My ex pulled 1 to 3k daily. No, there was no backroom mama to tip.
My favorite part is her understanding of how to use the word, 'average'.
Layla is very well spoken. You couldn't have scripted a better interview.
She's well spoken. So what, she's still a stripper.
Lots of strippers went to college, don't fool yourself. They do it through college, then they get used to the money and some can walk away and some say "I might as well make it when I can."
@jerlewis4291 part of me thinks it is scripted. Maybe completely AI or just scripted then read by AI. It would be a great way to hide her identity (assuming she's based on a very real person).

Trying to make it sound glamorous rather than real.
What’s the average age of a strip club customer? Stinking Freakonomics Radio getting me to listen to stuff I normally wouldn’t

A job is a job and jobs have expenses with pros and cons. The girls that choose this job made a choice.
Yes? Not sure why you mentioned this
This Podcast misses to differentiate the business of the strippers from the business of the strip club owner, those are very different.
Can it be compared to a casino?
just another form of addiction fuel by alcohol and drugs
If you're a celebrity and go to a strip club, there will be gossip about how you behaved. I heard from strippers that a band member of Godsmack acted quite pretentious around club DJ's, trying to give too much advice.
She is clearly very intelligent, articulate, clear in her explanation.
I'm sure they have carefully edited the copy and have someone read it.
Most young men don't have thousands of dollars to blow up on strippers period why is it so hard to figure out
Not to mention, why would somebody want to go to a strip joint, to see women, dance, naked who he can’t touch, and pay for overpriced water down booze.
Much money is made by strippers after the club closes.

Why was the subject of taxes ignored? I have long wondered how strippers deal with all the cash.
You answered your own question.
Easy, they earn it, they spend it.
Wait...if they took a customer to a different non-strip club then she didn't make that money as a stripper. She made that money as an escort.
Strange how women with advanced degrees from top ranked colleges use objectification to make more money than using their degree and yet men get attacked for objectifying women. Women need to get on the same page.

Except there are only 2 nights in a strippers week. Rethink your math.
Would be a good episode to turn the webcams on for.

I've known at least 4 women who were strippers and all had average builds.
Sometimes that it their own excuse to justify their expense.

Vocal fry checks out
Don’t they still prefer to be called dancers?
10 years ago in S FL, several dancer friends made $1000-2500 per weekend night working at one of 3 small-to-midsize clubs near PBIA.
Most worked a few nights at these clubs and 1-2 nights closer to their homes, several of which were in a different county.
DJ, house fees etc are norm.
Many clubs have 2-3 girls dancing per shift and only a few have a large quantity… and then only on weekends before the feature, if there is one.
Dancers don’t stay at a location that has too much competition unless it is always packed, and that attracts more attention from authorities.
I’ve never considered the immigration status of strippers.
I love that "Strippers" is an everyday thing for some of you (hello content creator), and that it's at place 57 of "all the things".
