No but it wont cook like Ramsey either. It cant taste and correct for variables in food and seasoning quality. For instance, the ages of ground spices has a huge effect on taste and when you buy the spices you have no way to know how old they are. So when preparing a dish you taste. How many times have we seen Ramsey yell at someone for not tasting the food they produce? This is one reason why this is an expensive pipe dream.
No but you can download the app fapple and it can do amazing things with your body
too country I like what you mentioned all the above. but, image an app can profile your taste buds and adjust all the seasonings accordingly and you should still have the ability to pick the fresh produce, not relying on the robots... (I think, I am skeptical about the quality of produce when the grocers are doing it for me)

This would be amazing. Imagine being able to have a home cooked meal ready when you get back from work, or having whatever you want made at any time of day. It would honestly change the world, and probably lead to people eating much healthier. At the very least, the fast food industry would be severely disrupted.

It should/would have a vision system. I wouldn’t think that it’d be very reliable without one. If it had a vision system it would indeed get this question from the robot controller (robot brain) quite a bit if you like eating lamb often. Just think, you would be turning your robot into Ramsey.

Since it depends on recorded movements, just move the pot half a feet from its position and the robot won't even know what happened
***** From what they showed, it looks like it is how it works. The machine doesn't recognize the items on the table. They used movement recording equipment to record exactly how the chef's hands moved through space. All the robot does is copy those pre-recorded movements. Move the pot or replace it with a cutting board and the robot won't even know, it will just pour olive oil on the cutting board and hit the pot with a knife.
The robot is in an enclosed area, in other words, behind glass. Mainly for safety reasons - but probably also for the point that you mention - which means that they are the only ones doing the moving.
The Markovs That is true. I also thought the safety glass was to separate the outside environment from the enclosed area, but this also means all of the items inside must act very similarly to their lab counterparts. If the sriracha sauce in the bottle is stickier than usual, then there goes your master chef level of cooking because the amount of sauce deposited will be incorrect (unless they have weight sensors on the arms).
Still, I guess just the robot itself is worth the cost. Anyone can stick a computer to it and modify its brains or add a learning AI.
The grabbing, measuring and cleaning are really easy to program there is a sensor for each of this functions already, but the movements are for when the robot already have the ingredients for the art of cooking itself, not to grab pots, that´s automated , even a smartphone can tell if you move a pot half a feet and adjust an advanced robot can do a lot more
I'm sure it can identify items and compensate for altered locations as long as the item is in the work area. That's really not difficult to program.
The motion recording serves other purposes. You cut bread with sawing motion, while you never saw through meat for example. You whisk a fluid until it's viscosity changes (not for a preset amount of time, but when it reaches a desired consistency). If it can "feel" the change through some sensors in the arm, or even with a camera, knowing when a chef stops whisking can be vital to replicating their results.
The simplest cooking machines right now are things like a rice cooker or bread machine. They are great at producing consistent results, but they have no way of contending with variability in the ingredients. That's why your bread machine will never out perform a skilled baker. The techniques they employ are adaptive, they don't do the same thing twice to achieve consistent results, they compensate for variables. Recording the movements of a chef now is likely more a PR thing. Seasoning an item is done based on the smell of the herbs. Whether it requires more or less depends on the herb, the level of dryness in it, how volatile the oils in the plant are, even what time of day it was harvested can make a noticeable difference. A chef can tell immediately how much they need by the potency of the aroma, but we don't have anything remotely like a nose-sensor that is so versatile for a machine. That means you're back to measuring ingredients and producing inconstant results. It's the difference between a 5 star chef, and a guy with a cookbook written by a 5 star chef.
What interests me more is how the arms get things from storage. If you have to stage ingredients, you might as well just cook yourself. I keep a root cellar, like having 3 aisles of a grocery store in my basement, and the inventory changes frequently as items are used, but not necessarily replenished at fixed intervals (if somethings runs out, it doesn't get restocked until next season when it's fresh from the garden again).
It's not just the motions the arms need, but a comprehensive inventory management system. It needs to know "This has gone bad, don't use it", and "I have ingredients to prepare these 4 dishes, but not the full 20,000 that are programmed". Can it improvise a recipe based on what you have? If there are no mushrooms for the omelet, will it make one without mushrooms? Probably, but what if there are no eggs? The schema used to describe recipes to a machine would need to be far more complicated than a simple cookbook style recipe, as it would have to compensate for these occurrences, which a human would do intuitively.
Moving a robotic arm is undeniably cool, but actually pretty easy to setup. So is item detection. While complex, there are APIs that would allow even a child to program complex robotic systems. It's when you get into the AI aspects that things really become complicated. I'm not sure the system could replace a human in the kitchen anytime in the near future.
I could see this becoming half-assed in implementation. The device would likely come with 200 recipes and there are disposable "packs" which you load into it with pre-measured ingredients of known consistency, barcoded, dated, etc. To make a meal, you reload the desired ingredients packs. Then it's just a fancy TV dinner. From a marketing standpoint however, the sale of the food packs especially through a company like Amazon would be far more lucrative than the sale of the robot itself. Like the Kurig Coffee makers.
Not to mention maintenance and repair. If it's damaged, doesn't look like something you would easily ship back to the manufacturer. You need repair people in the market who can make house-calls. It would need a substantial self-diagnostic system.
I also wonder about liability. If the machine starts a grease fire, it should be able to extinguish it. But as the fire was started by the machine, will the manufacture be liable for damages?
This is a good idea, but it's too early for a commercial product.

TV dinners and mass produced meals are the main constituents of most peoples’ diets. This robot have been precisely programmed to follow the movements of actual chefs making actual meals. It is a machine that could elevate the average man to a point where he no longer relies on corporations to entice him with brightly colored advertisements, he would finally be able to make a decision and select what he wants rather than what he is instructed to want.

@alfyn A dishwasher maybe reduces kitchen cleaning work by like 35%. I still spend hours each week cleaning my kitchen. I have to load and empty the dishwasher, which takes about 50% of the time it would take to just wash the dishes by hand. I have to hand wash the harder to wash or bigger dishes, which take most of the time of washing anyway. I have to wash the counter, and wash the stove.

If this is going to be a stand-alone cooking technology without interacting with others, why not also reengineer the cooking utensils, pots, and other items to be better suited for mechanized interactions? I think the biggest challenge would probably be the robot recognizing and handling each individual ingredient and sensing it. I don't think programming it to cook would be very difficult

Quite clever but to me there's a lack of creativity in design on show here. Surely a better solution would be to analyse a chef's movements and the recipe (cooking times etc.) and design a device that optimises the two leveraging true multitasking capability, machine learning etc. rather than simply mimicking human movement. Why limit this system to what humans can do with our linear/serial processor (sorry ladies - there's really no such thing as true 'multi-tasking' I understand) and two hands? Just my 2 cents... I can't cook for shit because there's so much to do and remember. And I'm scared of living on my own. Having one of these would be epic.
That's why we created these things called "Cook Books" and "Cooking Instructions". A cook book is a book made up of recipes that you can follow, and they tell you what to do without having to remember all of the steps off the top of your head. I would highly reccomend you buy a cook book, or if you can't find/afford one you can always use a search engine. A search engine allows you browse the web to look for specific information, so you can use the search engine to look up cooking recipes.

How do we incorporate that in architectural designs and ceilings it be kind of cool if my kitchen arm could come into my living room and or hallway near the stairs I mean, I don’t want the beam in my face everywhere, but it’d be cool if it could cover like the entertainment area of my house, including the kitchen and I’m pretty sure we have really good architects and designers who can make it look nice on the ceiling and go to electrical engineers
