Satch appears on What's My Line as a mystery guest. The panelists are blindfolded. Soupy Sales asks if the mystery guest is a champion. Host Wally Bruner interjects, "I don't think you could call this gentleman anything else...". Very moving. And very true.

  • @ErichLRuehs

Thanks a million for posting this! And "millions" is what Mr. Paige would make in today's game. And that's for a four game series! Of course the list goes on and on regarding the great Negro League ballplayers that were among the best of the best. Love this interview. Satchel is humble and awe inspiring. Either a person can tell or story of not. Satchel can tell a story with the best of them. As far as baseball is concerned ... This man, pound for pound, was the best of all time; hands down. There was never a better pitcher in terms of sheer power, accuracy and length of career that was better. Nolan Ryan comes close, but Satchel was better. Satchel Paige also could have been a baseball announcer. He's super smart, articulate and entertaining to listen to. Could you imagine Bob Costis and/or Joe Buck announcing a game with Satchel Paige dong color commentary?! Seriously, that's the broadcasting dream team! *FOOTNOTE: The person who posted the above picture of Mr. Paige, thank you, too. What a great picture. FOOTNOTE #2: Notice Mr. Paige said the prejudice in "Baltimore" and other northern cities was as bad as the south. Often Northern folks act all high and mighty, but things were bad all over.

There really should be a docudrama made about this man. Heard that he pitched so hard and fast.. he mentioned 90 mile an hour fastball, think he really threw closer to 100mph+ in his prime. Who knows what type of career he might have had he been allowed to play MLB, along with the likes of Josh Gibson and Cool papa bell.

    U can’t say the greatest HR hitter who ever lived …as a matter of fact…That s ridiculous…
Babe Ruth transformed the game w the HR long before Josh. And all of Ruth’s HR s counted were in MLB games…
The majority of Josh s weren’t Negro Leagues…many exhibitions against varying levels of talent…not always Negro Major league level.
If u want to count ALL of Ruth s HR including Barnstorming,Japan …Ruth would be around 1000 Hrs.
It’s all silly stuff.Ruth was amazing HR hitter and Josh is in the discussion. That s all u can say.

Josh never got his chance against the major leagues. Josh Gibson died the year after Jackie Robinson went to the Dodgers. Josh hit over 800 home runs in his Negro League career and the ONLY player that ever breathed to hit a ball COMPLETELY out THE OLD Yankees Stadium. So what should that tell you he'd do to major league pitching????
