D. A. Carson treats the Bible with integrity and the conclusion he reaches seems to me to fit and harmonize with the teaching of the entire Bible. If I fear that I have committed the Unpardonable Sin, then I must go to Christ anyway. Where else is there to go? I must take ALL my sin -- even my Unpardonable Sin -- to Jesus.
Thank you, I seriously needed this. This has been more or less torturing me for the past couple days or so, and you were the first one to put it in black and white for me.
Carson is my favorite speaker. I've listened to hours of his stuff. What he's describing here is me though. I tasted the spirit then rebelled in unbelief for 6 years. I've repented now but Heb 6 and this topic have troubled me. I'm even more troubled now that my favorite person says I've done the unforgivable.
Hebrews 6 teaches that apostates don’t ever repent.... it’s sounds like you repented. Peter himself publicly denied Christ with curses, but he was forgiven.
I'm in the same situation,I've done worse than you...Probably you won't see this comment but if you do leave a contant way email or whatever...I nees to speak to you
David bare in mind that this a sensible subject with a lot of different opinions try to listen to john wesley sermon a call to backsliders. Hope it will help you
I think it means if you no longer desire to be forgiven, and choose to die in that state. I hope that is right. I have been blasphemous but repented. I need His mercy desperately.
Oswald Cobblepot thank you. I know I am saved, and continue to pray for my family members who are not. I have high hopes☺. This is a very good explanation.
I hope that I don't go to hell by saying "fuck the holy spirit". "Jesus likes little boys penis!" "I look Jesus in the the face and say, 'fuck you, I am lost and dead', but I'm scared that, "what if I'm wrong, and it turns out there really is a God. OH well, I guess it's hell for me, because I hate the God in the bible. He is evil. Even if it turns out I'm wrong. I don't care.
You say you're scared you may be wrong - really? You write "I hope that I don't go to hell"....but do you REALLY hope that you don't? And why do you hate the God in the Bible? You finish by saying "I don't care".....but you do, because if you really didn't care, you wouldn't be here. You may just wish to offend - you're not the only one who hates Jesus, as you'll see if you've read the Gospels. But if none of the above is true, speak to God while you've a chance; hear His words to us in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32 )
In all seriousness. I honestly don't believe in the very, over the top, superstitious bible. Hell, for example, was a myth that was created by primitives who thought that volcanos came from the fire god. The god of the bible, Yahweh, is an example of people taking all these single "elemental" type gods. Like fire gods and wind gods, air gods ect... and putting them into an all in one god. Hence, The Alpha, The Omega. Now, this is where I differ from other atheists. Even if I thought the god of the bible was real at this point. I would be very unhappy to know that fact. I'm very grateful that we have 0.00000% evidence for the damn bible, and overwhelming evidence for evolution by natural selection, to the point that it would be perverse to try and deny it.
3:23 "When a person gets to that stage, they don't want to be forgiven. They want to walk away and they feel self-righteous in so doing. There's no sign of contrition or brokenness or faith anymore in them. They are lost and damned."
satan is the father of lies and he is the one who condemns. The Good News is, Jesus Christ came to save the world for those who believe in him. If you truly believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and Love Jesus Christ, with all your heart, you are not condemned. You are Saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ, and washed clean! Amen! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus Christ, our Lord!!!
From what I have learned. We can’t commit the unpardonable sin. The unpardonable sin Jesus refers to speaks of the Pharisees who claimed Jesus had an “unclean spirit” during his time on earth. Jesus isn’t here anymore in the flesh. We can’t claim he has an “unclean spirit” since he is in heaven. Therefore, we cannot commit the unpardonable sin. This is what I have learned tho so feel free to disagree! God bless
While I see what you are saying, and it has some justification from the context within the gospels, consider that each of the accounts of the gospel are highly selective, and intentional, in what they include in their accounts. Not one of them shows every word Jesus spoke, so if they included the text, there must be a reason. And since these accounts were written well after Jesus ascended, I find it hard to believe that the authors would intentionally include something that has no relevance after the ascension. It's a bit like having a sign saying "Don't Feed the Elephants" when there are no elephants around.
I love Don Carson too but I find it hard to marry Apostacy in its varying degrees and 'the unforgivable sin'. I would like to ask Don where one would then draw the line? Do kids that grow up in Christian households and go through a period of rebellion before heading back to Christ have a lesser or no faith/relationship with God? Being someone who didn't grow up in a Christian household but did have an experience with the Holy Spirit as a teenager, excepted Christ and then lived with much rebellion (although not really a rejection of Christ) for a number of year years before returning to him more deeply - I too struggle with this at times. It does seem to contradict the all powerful grace of the cross..
I understand what you are going through I guess brother, because I've been in that similar situation. I guess what I could say is if you still have that desire to be forgiven, hold on to that, and fight to be alone with God to read His word and pray to Him day and night, and wait for Him. This may not be the "clear cut" answer you are looking for but slowly I truly believe that if you continue to seek Him. You will have the answers you are looking for. I would like to share a link from brother Sevin ua-cam.com/video/_9-HcG1HGUk/v-deo.html
I think I’ve done it, I was talking to a Jewish man who said he only saw Jesus as a miracle man because all throughout Old Testament all sorts were performing signs and wonders and for some stupid reason I asked didn’t the priests of Baal do signs too and after he said “yeah” I said “that’s fair” and ever since I’ve felt completely hopelessly damned and having constant panic attacks that I’m no longer forgivable
What is the unpardonable sin? - It is un-repentance. (God's Holy Spirit is the only spirit that will guide sinful man to repentance.) Not following the Holy Spirit's guidance to repentance is the unpardonable sin. Not repenting of sin to the Holy Spirit's calling is akin to blasphemy.
@@besaltandlight184 That's the thing; un-repentance means they failed or refused to repent. Even failed or refuse to repent of not repenting. But who knows?
I said some direct insults against the work of the cross after experiencing the holy spirit. This was after I committed adultery and felt like my conscience was seared and heart was hardened. I played with God and now I feel like a cursed and condemned person who's unspiritual waiting for God's judgment. I'm not sure what to do? I'm really scared. I believed I had a saving knowledge and experienced the holy spirit but did not obey...
You still have a choice as long as you are alive. Don't doubt the mercy of God, but believe. Truly repent of your sins and He will forgive you. Remember, the devil is a lier and a deciever. He wants you to stayl in that state of feeling till your death. If you are willing to repent God will not cast you away
@@Nicole-zi3vl What about the story of the prodigal son? What about the parable of the Shepherd who had lost one sheep out of his 100 sheep? It says that when he found it, he rejoiced over it more than he did over the 99. What about Jesus commanding us to forgive our neighbor 70x7 and that it's only then can our Father in heaven forgive us - according to the Lord's prayer? God can not set a standard which He can not keep Himself. If man who is evil by nature is expected to forgive that many times, what more a holy, merciful, perfect and loving God? Nothing can separate us from His love. Not even sin, and that's why he sent His beloved son to die for us when man sinned in the Garden of Eden
@@Nicole-zi3vl read the letters to the Seven Churches. God was telling the five out of the Seven to repent of their various sins. That means they were born again Christians for them to have been referred to as God's Churches, yet had just backslidded. One of the Church was being told to go back to its first love
I know someone who was a Christian who 1 day in a fit of anger said she hated God, wished she never became a Christian and would follow Satan. She never did but has never been the same. She does not feel God's presence any longer. She firmly believes she has committed the unpardonable sin, She loves God and wants Him with all of her heart but feels that she is eternally condemned & there is no consoling her. She believes Don Carson's interpretation confirms it.
She needs to understand that the unforgivable sin is a sin that is dispensational. It is a sin that was committed when Jesus Christ was on earth, performing holy miracles, and the Pharisees, who saw those miracles blaspheme them, knowing completely that it was the power of God, the Holy Spirit, knowing it was God‘s power they still announced otherwise. Your friend, the young lady has never seen Christ do a miracle. She has never been able to attribute Jesus as miracles to an unholy power thus attempting to call God a liar. The exact nature of the unforgivable sin does not exist in this dispensation. If she would ever want to return to the Lord Jesus Christ, John chapter 6 verse 37 would allow her to do so
Here in lies the issue with religion; Mr Carson has done an excellent job here of explaining this very interesting and important point and yet, many feel the need to further clarify, twist, or put their own spin on it (smiling). Even more interesting that the good Lord made us this way! This is why there are so many different sects of Christianity and religious beliefs. And, many come from splits in the first church as pointed out in scriptures. In His Grip, Steve
So as long as you want to repent, be saved, and have salvation, you're fine, even if you think you've committed something similar to apostasy, in the past?
In this life we live by faith. We see thru the glass darkly. If we except the gospel, and embrace it fully, we can grow spiritually, and the wisperings of the Holy Ghosts can become clearer and more pronounced. I believe it's possible to get to the point where faith is replaced by pure knowledge, as with the early apostles. Where much is given, much is required. It is these, who know beyond doubt and then betray and fight against Christ that have committed the unpardonable sin. Like Judas, and Satan himself and his angles who, with pure knowledge, choose to rebel against God.
Am I holding some sin back? Is my unbelief holding me back WAS MY sin (in denouncing Jesus so violently angrily so final that GOD sending me strong delusion that I be unable to believe? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!!! WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?
@old classic wildmanchris200, Do you see that you are a sinner who breaks God’s holy law every second of everyday and because of such you are deserving of being under his eternal wrath? 2.) Do you believe that Jesus is God (the Word) who took on flesh, lived a sinless life in obedience to God, fulfilling the requirement of the Law, satisfying the just demands of it by dying on the cross under the wrath of God. Was buried. Rose again on the third day, and is seated at the right hand of God? That he is Lord over all, and will one day judge the living and dead? 3.)Do you desire Christ and just him alone (nothing and no one else) to save you and want to yield your entire life to him? - this is Think by the way ;)
I would argue that the person didn’t commit the unpardonable sin. Although I believe in the church age the unpardonable sin is impossible to commit, I will assume for this answer that it is a sin that can still be committed. Those who have committed it seek no forgiveness. They have had their hearts hardened and no longer seek to initiate a right standing with God. I would argue, if you are worried about commuting the unpardonable sin, you probably haven’t committed it then
If you can truly repent you want to come back to Christ then you didn't comit this unpardonable sin. A person who fell away doesn't care any longer about it.
St. Peter denied Jesus 3 times and the rooster crowed. But he was forgiven. King Manasseh was the worst idolator in Jewish history, but forgiven. Israel was sent into Babylonian exile, its temple destroyed, its sacrificial priestly religion abolished, but Israel has hope. I don't see the salvation history of the Bible as closed to anyone even me, as Dr. Sibbs of England said, There is more righteousness in Christ, who is mine, than there is sin in me." The God who saves the tax collectors, Roman soldiers, women caught in adultery, Gentiles, the Samaritans, The Unclean, The Possessed, The Outcast is not someone who lightly rejects the repentant sinner. And maybe one last thought: even if you still think you are condemned, you could still give it the old college try, and see what happens. Never give up.
I agree but I think this kind of thing will happen in the Second Pentecost...the clarity of faith vs. willful rejection... "is the sin of self-conscious rejection of Christ & the gospel even after the Spirit has given you gospel clarity" and you said I don't want it.....1John2:18-19 (christians who in the end abandoned, rejected the Truth...Godbless
Jesus addressed the unpardonable sin when the Pharisees were claiming the work of the Holy Spirit was actually the work of Beelzebub. This guy's take on it is completely different which surprises me. Matthew 12:22-32: Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. 2:53 how can you lose eternal life? If you study a word study "eternal life" and verb tenses it is not clear that a one-time born again experience is all there is. What about Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. We may be partakers of eternal life now, but there is also an element to eternal life that has not been finalized.
For sure before you start trying to understand what the unpardonable sin is, you probably should figure out who God is and who you are, for if you don’t quite understand who God is and who are you are, Then how would you ever understand what the unpardonable sin is?
Hey brother can i please ask you something? I was worried beacouse i thought i might have blasphemed and i just wanted assurance. So i discussed with my friend what blasphemy is (Attributing the spirits work with the devil) and i made an example of what would need to be said and if i done it. Is it the same i commit the sin? I literally said the words but i didnt mean it. Please help me❤🙏
Truthfully, I’d like to answer your question the unforgivable sin in its exact form does not exist today. Jesus is not on earth in the flesh, he is not performing holy miracles in the flesh. Those who committed that sin, the scribes were people seeing Jesus in his human formhealing people and casting our demons and they knew it was God or godly power in Jesus yet they purposively attributed the power to an unholy source that cannot be done in his exact form today
@@jm7578 Thats true but the holy spirit is still on earth. Its blasohemy against the holy ghost not blasphemy agaist jesus. That could be forgiven. God bless you❤️
(Mark 3:28) "Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme AGAINST the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit." (Matthew 12:31) "Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy AGAINST the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word AGAINST the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh AGAINST the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come." I honestly feel like this matter is overcomplicated by men; certainly not by God as He is not the author of confusion. Jesus just cast out a demon. The Pharisees said that he cast out a demon by the power of satan. What is the greatest sin here? Denying the diety of Jesus Christ. They deny that He is God in the flesh, and instead claim he is a demon-possessed man. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth for a reason. He is the Spirit that lets us know who Jesus is. They speak evil against the Spirit of TRUTH of God. They deny the Son, and because they deny the Son there is no forgiveness for them (John 3:18). This is backed up in the book of Hebrews when men choose animals sacrifice over the sacrifice of Jesus. A man cannot be forgiven if he denies the method by God chooses to forgive him. Keep in mind that JESUS has been given all power in heaven and in earth, and the power and authority to forgive mens sins. So who will not forgive blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? Jesus. He will not tolerate anyone claiming that He is from satan.
@@jesse-jamesswann4112 clearly you've repented of it. It says in the Book of 1John that any man who knows that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. I think you're needlessly worrying yourself man. People who blaspheme the Holy Spirit don't care if they've done it. If you're worried that you have done it, then you haven't
JackDuba oh okay thank you... but what I said before was something like “God is the devil” But NOW I KNOW GOD IS NOT THE DEVIL and now I live my life walking by faith.... will God forgive me of saying that?
@@jesse-jamesswann4112 of course. Sir the only reason you know what you know now is because the Holy Spirit enlightened you. If you were beyond redemption or forgiveness the Holy Spirit never would have drawn you back to the Lord
I understand Don to be saying that we can fall from grace (Lose the Holy Spirit) ....but we would have to fall away to the point where we consciously rejected God. This seems to me to be a sound interpretation of the "perseverance of the saints", with a delicate balance between confidence and caution.
The act of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit attributing The Works of Satan to the works of the Holy Spirit knowing that the Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity (Eliohim). Rejecting the gospel and dying in your sin this qualifies entrance into God's Kingdom of heaven. For whosoever his name was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire. But yet for whosoever shall call upon the Lord she'll be saved. Both Paul the Apostle and John the Revelator new how to gain entrance in the heaven and how to lose your life for eternity the soul that sinneth shall die. People go to hell because they reject the gospel the other sin a blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a flagrant blasphemy knowing what's right that the Works of Jesus Christ of God. Ignorance of the Gospel will condemn you for eternity but you cannot blaspheme the Holy Spirit out of ignorance. That's a flagrant violation from someone that knows... Romans 10:9&10 tell us clearly if we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead we will be saved. Acts 16:31 is clear that if we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved. I have confidence I know I'm convinced I'm an overcomer 1st John is clear I can be all those so can you Call on his Name today. Today is the day of salvation. Now is the accepted time. God bless you my friend
I can't believe I'm going to disagree with D.A. Carson on this issue BUT the texts in Mark 3:28-30 teaches this particular eternal sin of blasphemy as the sole act of verbal attribution of an unclean spirit to the Holy Spirit (verse 30). Blasphemy was the act of speaking evil. Jesus even contrasts it with other sins and blasphemies (verse 28). How can this distinct verbal act of sin be harmonized with other passages from Hebrews not describing the same verbal act of sin? -With all love and respect, especially for His Word. Mar 3:28 "Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, Mar 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"- Mar 3:30 for they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." ESV
+toobsterdude It's clearly the verbal blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. But since adultery is committed first in the heart before the body does it, how do we know that we haven't done the unforgivable sin in their hearts? Like when you learn you shouldn't covet, now you are tempted to covet just like Paul said. Ever since I learned about the unforgivable sin I hear the "unclean spirit" part like a broken record in my head whenever I think or even talk about Jesus. Sometimes I wonder whether I have committed it in my heart. Certainly not my motive.
You are correct. Don Carson is not correct on his interpretation. It is simply as the text reads. The unpardonable and eternal sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is simply to declare that what Jesus has done is actually being done by an evil spirit, or a devil. It is simply to say that Jesus is NOT the messiah...and the signs he demonstrated to verify that He is the Messiah, were actually done by a devil or evil spirit, which means Jesus is NOT the Messiah.. Most certainly a position that the Apostle Paul held previous to his conversion...it doesn't matter how low you get in your sojourn from here to eternity...none of that has any relationship to the eternal sin....the eternal sin is simply to hold the position that Jesus Christ is NOT the Messiah, but a devil in disguise. If you change your mind about that, the blood of Christ will cleanse you...if you don't change your mind about that...then nothing awaits you a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. Please change your mind...come to the Savior.
+MrEnglishRevolution What you're saying makes sense but "the eternal sin is simply to hold the position that Jesus Christ is NOT the Messiah, but a devil in disguise. If you change your mind about that, the blood of Christ will cleanse you" this doesn't sound unforgivable then? If we can repent from it then what makes it more unforgivable than other sins? If that specific sin (which you say we can repent of) is considered unforgivable (only as long as we hold that position) you make it sound like other sins are forgivable even while you commit them (while you hold their position).
Hello Sebastien, sorry for a late reply...I've been otherwise occupied. HHhmmm, a good answer to your inquiry would be too long for this platform...maybe here we can clarify a bit...1st, you can be sure that you both live sinning and will die sinning, willfully, and ignorantly, and presumptuously, secretly, in ways that are beyond your knowing and outnumber the hairs of your head...Pslam 40:12, 1 Tim 1:15 (Greek, present tense, Chief of sinners NOW), Rom 7:14-25, etc and many other places...always a correct understanding of the gospel will lead one to deal with the suggestion (Rom 3:8, 6:1) that we are now able to sin as we please and still be confident of God's salvation. Which of course we know is not the case, but one could come to that conclusion if one was otherwise ignorant of God. But the sure reality is that whatever is not of faith is sin, whatever falls short of the glory of God is sin, whatever is not loving God with all your heart, mind, spirit, and body and loving your neighbor as yourself is sin, and then their are sins as determined by one's own conscience which indeed are sins because you believe them to be so...(Rom 14:23, Rom 3:23, Matt 22:40, Rom 14:14, James 2:8-13, James 4:17, etc...so yes in short, all your sins, sins past, present, future, are removed in Christ...He has born them all...and you can be sure as I say, you'll be sinning until you leave this world...yet you are saved...you are not saved by your repentance, or your obedience, or your righteousness...only by the death of Christ in your place...yet there is also a mystery involved...the mystery of the faith, the mystery of godliness, etc...a saved person is saved because they have been crucified with Christ, and can no longer be charged for their sins because they are no longer alive as a sinful man, but they have been resurrected in Christ, and are now alive in Glory, seated with Him....and by faith they wait patiently to receive all that is theirs already through the finished work of Christ...so yes you will be saved in spite of the fact you are still sinning in many ways and will die sinning...because the blood of Christ cleanses you from all sin....but remember this is for those who believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah of God. Those who reject Him, who call God a liar, who insult the spirit of Grace (which is exactly the same sin that Jesus refers to as the unforgivable sin, Heb 10:29) by any number of means - saying that Jesus did what he did by Satan as an agent of Satan, saying that Jesus blood is worthless and doesn't take away sin, denying that Jesus is the Messiah, relying on their own righteousness and works and religion and insulting the Spirit of Grace...etc etc, when they die there will be no forgiveness for them...that is it for them...they have rejected the grace of God...they have spurned and insulted the grace of God and considered as unclean and unholy the blood of Christ....that is the unforgivable sin...the saint does sin Sebastien, as much as it grieves him, he does...for in his flesh dwells NO GOOD THING...and his flesh only becomes worse and worse and more corrupt, each passing day...Eph 4:22, but he holds to the Gospel...and will be saved to the uttermost, because God is able to make him continue to hold...amen.
Hi! God bless you. I just wanted to write this comment respectfully to say that maybe that isn’t true. I think God knows that we as humans, are so imperfect. And we question things. Things we don’t understand, or under certain circumstances like many people, have been through things and in our pride or anger or just being lost, believe that God doesn’t love us or why would God do certain thing. Maybe people question God, but I believe those who even who question, and eventually turn to the Lord will be saved. The Lord will answer to those who call on Him and put their hope in Jesus and repent. God bless!
DO NOT FEAR. JESUS LOVES YOU. -Turn to JESUS, REPENT of ALL SIN -Accept JESUS as LORD and KING GD HAS sealed us with the HOLY SPIRIT of Truth. HIS PRESENCE is INSIDE US
To abide in Christ, is to abide in the Doctrine Of Christ! It is The Doctrine Of Christ that Paul uses to bring Us (THE CHURCH), unto the unity of the faith, in whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named! One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptist. The church as a majority has departed from the faith that was once delivered unto the saints! The church, as a majority, has apostisised from The Doctrine Of Christ ! Their are most in the church today, that have deliberately, wilfully and perversely have rejected clear revelation of Christ building His Church! They are hostile towards The Doctrine Of Christ, speaking evil of The Way Of The Truth (Jesus), and denying His Power to reconcile All Things Unto Himself! If One is abiding in The Doctrine Of Christ, then One will have a clear understanding of God's eternal, unbreakable covenant, which was sealed by the Blood of The Spotless Lamb Of God! So for anyone who is truly seeking the Jesus of the Bible? He can be found! It All Points Back, to The Lamp Slain from the Foundation Of The World! Jesus has chosen Us (THE CHURCH), "IN HIM ", before the foundation of the world, and most professing Christians wrest clear revelation, distorting, twisting, removing and pulling away from hard sayings in things pertaining to salvation. You see: Predestination and election are both inseparable from the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery of the Gospel ! It is The Doctrine Of Christ that Paul uses to bring Us (THE CHURCH), unto the unity of the faith! The appostisy from the faith that was once delivered unto the saints, is a clear departure from The Doctrine Of Christ! The falling away, the appostisy is a doctrinal departure from the Doctrine Of Christ ! If One is following the error of the wicked and not abiding in the Doctrine Of Christ? They are deceived and do not know it ! John 9 Whosoever "transgresseth ", and abideth not In The Doctrine Of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in The Doctrine Of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son! I know little to nothing in regards to John Calvin and the truths or errors that he may have taught! Therefore to all new believers and those seeking the truth of God's Word. Do not demonize nor paint the words predestination and election black, All in the name of John Calvin, because these are not John Calvin's words! They are the Words of Our Lord! So may We (The Church), contend earnestly for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints, The Doctrine Of Christ! Ephesians 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the Faith Of Him (Jesus) !
How does one know and trust that all 27 books of the New Testament are God's Written Word, no less and no more (out of 300+ early Christian writings) ? And were those early Christians who affirmed this canon infallible (incapable of being in error) in their repeated affirmations of what books belonged in this canon?
Hello, to my understanding Blasphemy of the holy spirit can only be committed by someone who has received the holy spirit. The scribes and pharisees were in danger of committing the sin because they knew Jesus christ was the true son of God and rejected him anyway. If you receive the spirit and reject the spirit you are bringing shame on the spirit. I don't know if it's something you will never think about or worry about because if you're born again and know the truth you can't go back to not knowing. You become a atheist but that is not the same as a unbeliever. Satan is a atheist but even he believes in God,Christ and the spirit. A unbeliever has never tasted the blessing of the spirit.
LaBella Dawna so i havent accepted christ and not being Born again, so if i get this blaspehmous thoughts.. and have thought them purposly but dosent agree with them, have I committed that sin..?
LaBella Dawna i dont agree but like i think i do it because Im to tired to resist them and i feel tempt to think them. Idk why they sometimes just pops up without temptation, Idk Im so lost.. and confused.
THIS GUY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURE..... PEOPLE WHO MAKE THIS conclusion are ignorant... IT IS ATTRIBUTIN JESUS HEALINGS AND MIRACLES TO SOMETHING ELSE...
You may disagree with his theological synthesis of the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and the apostasy passages in Hebrews, but to say that Don Carson doesn't understand Scripture is hilarious.
Why can't it be that the Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) is God himself! The context was that Jesus(Yeshua) was being accused of casting out demons through Beelzebul Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. So the accusations is against God(Father) himself! And that is beyond Yeshua's blood sacrifice!
Amen. And if you had truly committed the unpardonable sin you would have no desire to take any of your sin to Jesus.
Thank you, I seriously needed this. This has been more or less torturing me for the past couple days or so, and you were the first one to put it in black and white for me.
Hard truths like these are desperately needed in the pulpit today.
Such clarity! Praise the Lord for giving us this good man is all I can say after watching this!
Hi David. You said you've repented , and at 3:20 ish he says that when people are at that point they don't want to be forgiven. I hope that helps!
David Maddox the fact that you are worried that you committed it, you didn't do it. People that commit the sin do not care at all about God
Hope it will help you
I, Annelies Bakker, agree, believe and declare I understand what Don Carson is talking about, in Jesus Christ his name: amen!
Oswald Cobblepot Thank you, Mr Cobblepot.
I am in that state now, but let me tell you, I don’t feel happy for that.
Read John 6:37
satan is the father of lies and he is the one who condemns.
Point being, nobody fckn knows. 👍
thank u Holy Spirit Amen
@CTC09 yep i dint capitalize
Absolutely clear and understandable, thank you!!!
Well said analysis and point
Love the Carson videos! Keep them coming! I enjoy when it is a such a specific topic and interpretation like this too. Hard to disagree with Carson!
The unpardonable sin is losing faith in Christ or wilfully rejecting him by not believing in him in the first place
Revelation 14:12
(King James Version)
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
What if you eventually repent after ???
@@besaltandlight184 That's the thing; un-repentance means they failed or refused to repent. Even failed or refuse to repent of not repenting.
But who knows?
@@KeepingWatch95 so what if you want to repent but feel its too late???
To sin against the man of Christ is forgivable. But to sin against the Spirit of Christ is unforgiving. Augustine tells us what this means.
wow . i hope i never get too this stage . Its like a doctor treating you and you do not take the meds he prescribes
I feel the same way
You still have a choice as long as you are alive. Don't doubt the mercy of God, but believe. Truly repent of your sins and He will forgive you. Remember, the devil is a lier and a deciever. He wants you to stayl in that state of feeling till your death. If you are willing to repent God will not cast you away
@@mwelwamukelabai182 I'm also scared because I didn't know if I committed this but I also believe that nothing is impossible with God.
Well said

@old classic wildmanchris200,
Do you see that you are a sinner who breaks God’s holy law every second of everyday and because of such you are deserving of being under his eternal wrath?
2.) Do you believe that Jesus is God (the Word) who took on flesh, lived a sinless life in obedience to God, fulfilling the requirement of the Law, satisfying the just demands of it by dying on the cross under the wrath of God. Was buried. Rose again on the third day, and is seated at the right hand of God? That he is Lord over all, and will one day judge the living and dead?
3.)Do you desire Christ and just him alone (nothing and no one else) to save you and want to yield your entire life to him?
- this is Think by the way ;)
What if you repent with extreme mourning and self denial? John 6:37?
Matthew 12:22-32:
Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw.
What about Jude 1:21
Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. We may be partakers of eternal life now, but there is also an element to eternal life that has not been finalized.
thank u sir
It is known rejection rather than thinking we are not savable. The catholics believe it is despair. Please answer.
Please tell me, if it's about me, I was in church than i started to like sin and I knew it is a sin against God... I can't be forgiven?
If a person still has remorse then they havnt committed this sin? How can you know?
He went off on a Calvinist tangent here and didn't really deal with the passage. The Pharisees never embraced Christ even superficially.
For sure before you start trying to understand what the unpardonable sin is, you probably should figure out who God is and who you are, for if you don’t quite understand who God is and who are you are, Then how would you ever understand what the unpardonable sin is?
right, thank you.
0:30 that was definitely not missing the point. I wish this thought was elaborated on
Hey brother can i please ask you something?
God bless you❤️
So is it the refusal of Salvation? Or is it a Christian who wants to hold his sin deliberate..and not quite ready to repent
(Mark 3:28)
"Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme AGAINST the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit."
(Matthew 12:31)
"Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy AGAINST the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word AGAINST the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh AGAINST the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."
I honestly feel like this matter is overcomplicated by men; certainly not by God as He is not the author of confusion.
I think I’ve said something like that before... I’m worried... now I believe Jesus died for our sins... I don’t know why I said that😢
@@jesse-jamesswann4112 clearly you've repented of it. It says in the Book of 1John that any man who knows that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. I think you're needlessly worrying yourself man. People who blaspheme the Holy Spirit don't care if they've done it.

Qualifies as a typo it's disqualify

I can't believe I'm going to disagree with D.A. Carson on this issue BUT the texts in Mark 3:28-30 teaches this particular eternal sin of blasphemy as the sole act of verbal attribution of an unclean spirit to the Holy Spirit (verse 30). Blasphemy was the act of speaking evil. Jesus even contrasts it with other sins and blasphemies (verse 28). How can this distinct verbal act of sin be harmonized with other passages from Hebrews not describing the same verbal act of sin?
-With all love and respect, especially for His Word.
Mar 3:28 "Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter,
Mar 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"-
Mar 3:30 for they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."

+toobsterdude
It's clearly the verbal blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
+MrEnglishRevolution
What you're saying makes sense but "the eternal sin is simply to hold the position that Jesus Christ is NOT the Messiah, but a devil in disguise.

I believe you are incorrect Sir. To blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is to question, or presume knowledge about, the nature of God's power.
Uh this totally contradicts the lost coin the lost sheep and prodigal son someone that had faith than backslid comes back can be forgiven
no, if you do not want Jesus you have sined against Holy Spirit and you can't get to haven or be saved.
But I didn't 'want' Him - but Christ died for sinners like me. As someone said above, to be forgiven there is only One Person to go to.
@@1.11f if you are thinking them on purpose then I would assume you are agreeing to the thoughts. How do you know you're thinking them on purpose?
LaBella Dawna i dont agree but like i think i do it because Im to tired to resist them and i feel tempt to think them. Idk why they sometimes just pops up without temptation, Idk Im so lost.. and confused.
@@1.11f Do you know God loves you?
@@1.11f do you believe jesus is God in the flesh and he died for our sins
The unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the holy spirit
THIS GUY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURE..... PEOPLE WHO MAKE THIS conclusion are ignorant...
IT IS ATTRIBUTIN JESUS HEALINGS AND MIRACLES TO SOMETHING ELSE...
You may disagree with his theological synthesis of the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and the apostasy passages in Hebrews, but to say that Don Carson doesn't understand Scripture is hilarious.
so it's too late for me, I'm having a hard time with this..
1 Corinthians 12:3 ... No, there is Salvation
Me too. My hope is John 6:37 and the like.
In the book of Mark 13 Christ Jesus gives how the Blasphemy of the Spirit will happen and when it will happen and by who.
Why can't it be that the Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) is God himself!
The context was that Jesus(Yeshua) was being accused of casting out demons through Beelzebul
Matthew 12:28
But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
So the accusations is against God(Father) himself! And that is beyond Yeshua's blood sacrifice!
You do not understand the unpardonable sin. YOU ARE COMMITTING THE UNPARDONABLSIN
How?
