- Five top experts gathered in a virtual seminar at the University of Pennsylvania to discuss how $54 billion in opioid settlement funds can best be used by states, counties, and municipalities that are beginning to receive them. The panelists pointed out a number of barriers and unsettled issues that will impact how effective the funding will be. The purpose of the money from a dozen pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution companies is to address the drug addiction and overdose crisis their products created. The seminar was co-sponsored by Penn's Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (Penn LDI)and the Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorder, HCV, and HIV (CHERISH).
