Noted for his association with the filmmaker Raj Kapoor and the composers Shankar-Jaikishan, he wrote lyrics for several successful Hindi film songs in the 1950s and the 1960s. Immortal songs by the great Shailendraji. After almost 40-5- years still remember my growing up in Bombay, the radio going geetkaar Shailendra, etc on All India Radio and Radio Ceylon. We would wait for his songs to play on the radio.
He truly deserves the Bharat Ratna even if posthumously.
