Watching this video saved me a few hours of taking things apart and poking around endlessly. Thank You! Once I knew what needed to be fixed it ended up being quick and easy.
A huge THANK YOU, for this! Same problem as everyone here. The plastic 'wedge' was sitting one notch out at around 7 o'clock instead of the nominal 9 o'clock position. Followed your succinct directions and viola, it works again. You have saved so many of us a lot of work trying to search this out ourselves. Again, thank you! Not all heroes wear capes.
THANKS Very helpful, I had lost all resistance. My problem was in the white plastic quarter-disc, but different. It was in the right position, but the cable had popped out of the groove and flipped to the opposite side of the plastic piece. I was able to see in the video where the cable was supposed to go. I was able to work it back into the groove using a flat head screwdriver, without doing anything to the plastic piece. The hardest part for me was getting the cover off and even more so, back on. I wish I had read the comment below about only loosening the bottom screw. I took it all the way out. (even then it was a bit of an effort to get the cover off). I had a fair amount of trouble getting the cover back into place screws on. The screws are deeply recessed and hard to deal with, as is lining them up when putting the cover back on . Magnetized screwdriver would be helpful, I ended up taping the screws to the screwdriver tip with duct tape to hold them in place while putting them back in. I agree 100% with the comment below about arresting the person who designed the cover
The Bowflex support line was taking so long. So I decided to search on YT. Thanks. It did help me to fix my M5. Easy fix. Glad that the servo motor is still good.
This totally helped me fix my M5. Today I finally realized I'm not a beast and doing level 12 (level 7 was my norm). It was completely off the magnetic plate. It works now. I had to test it before I put the cover back on. It was on level one on display but full resistance on the magnet. You just gotta tug on the cord a little to get some slack to make it go to the correct position for level 1. 1000 thank you's for posting the video!!
Note that when removing the lower right cover, you do NOT remove all 4 of the screws. The bottom screw (at the 6 o'clock position) should not be removed, but rather only LOOSENED (about 3 turns). After you remove the other 3 screws and have loosened the bottom screw, then you push upward on the tab at the bottom to clear the loosened screw. This is per the Bowflex design of the cover to make it easier to remove/replace the cover without having to remove that bottom screw (which is difficult to replace without a magnetized screwdriver). Then when you replace the cover, you again press upward on that lower tab to clear the loosened screw and then tighten the bottom screw.
I did that and it was a bit of a pain to put back without magnetized bits (drill). Also, didn't realize the plug in the front was still attached. I assume you need to take that off as well.
Pulled out the ole M5 the other day and omg..... it felt like the resistance was stuck and I could only make it 2 minutes at a time... did a little research, and with your video was able to fix the problem! Thank you so much, it was definitely stuck in a much harder resistance and now I'm able to go longer than 2 minutes. Lol thanks again!!
Dude thanks, I called nautilus and they really didn't help me out much but following your video I noticed my magnet was all the way up the disk all the time and I've been kicking myself in the a$$ for not buying an elliptical instead of this thing. Turns out it's been at 10 resistance the entire time I've owned it no matter what resistance i would set it at, until watching your video. Thanks again.
Thank you very much! Video was great, and following your steps resolved my resistance issue. Now I can go back to hating my M5 daily, due to the resistance!
Holy 💩 it worked... quick and easy AND IT TOTALLY fixed it the problem.. the calibration on the resistance on my machine was way off and this 💯 fixed the problem
I lost resistance today (coindently I recently moved it to a different spot in my basement a few days ago). That part was pointed down for me. I adjusted as you showed, but now the resistance is harder than when I got it! I'll try readjusting. Thank you for the video and tip for the easy fix.
Great video thank you had a similar problem when I took off the plastic cover I noticed the cable which moves the magnetic piece was loose...easy fix there is a small cable clamp with an Alan headed screw that had slipped. So just had to readjust it works great again!
Great instructions!!! In my case the white quarter pulley was in the correct position but the cable on the other side and not in the slot. I removed the white quarter pulley and rotated it 360 degrees until the cable was back in correct place. Working as I remember, almost kills me to finish Max Interval :).
Life saver! My resistance tensioner had completely flipped over. Your instructions enabled me to fix in under 30 mins. Hardest thing was getting the cover back on.big thanks
Thanks for the video, had the same problem on my M7, took the white part off the servo and readjust, works great now, there is a dot on the servo and the white adapter, that line up when set to max setting, so help for putting in the right spot, after pulling white adapter off servo.
Im buying a used one from an elderly woman who bought it new and then realized the arthritis in her knees were too bad to use it. I need to disassemble it to load carry it out of her house and get it in my SUV. What tools will I need? What size allen wrench? Thanks
Thanks for this! When you corrected the plastic piece's position, where did you place the magnet? Should the magnet be at the bottom (least resistance or top (most resistance)?
Definitely the worst purchase we have ever made. It was problematic from the monentvwe took it out of the box. If you're thinking about buying one, save your money, don't.
The longer ones are the side screws. The shorter ones go at the top and bottom. Took one person holding the side flap in place just right to engage the side screw while another is turing it in the hole.
I noticed that it is making a lot of fan noise while working out. I was wondering, would it be possible to completely remove the fan on the other side since there is already a magmatic resistance here? if I do so, do you think I would lose a lot of resistance? would the the whole device go quiet?
Hi Ahmad - You should not remove the fan for the following reasons: 1) The #1 reason - Your Max Trainer will not longer work! This because mounted to the fan's backing plate are 4 small magnets. When you pedal the machine, the fan rotates and those magnets pass in front of a "speed sensor". The speed sensor is what "wakes" the machine up and determines the RPM (pedal speed) and your calorie burn rate. If the fan was removed then the speed sensor would never detect any rotational movement and thus your machine would also "Pause" any workout. There is a workaround (though still not suggested): 2) The fan BLADES are riveted to the fan's backing plate and so, in theory, you could drill out the rivets and remove ONLY the fan BLADES. Then those magnets on the fan's backing plate would remain and so the speed sensor would still function OK. However, the fan blades provide SOME resistance and so your machine would not have as much resistance as it should, which means the calorie burn values would be incorrect. Note the REAL resistance is provided by the brake disc and the brake magnets (using "eddy current" braking technology). Also, the fan blades remove the hot air and help cool the brake disc's heat and so with no fan blades the brake disc would be much hotter.
Good fix demo but I might add the magnet position should be fine tuned as well. The position of the magnets can be fine tune by adjusting some lock nuts and or adjusting the play on the cable, see video link. ua-cam.com/video/yjqiOL7ytOA/v-deo.html
this might give you a wrong impression that the plastic piece has mechanical issues. This is not the case. The issue is: when you switch off this POS or there is a power failure when a program is in progress and the magnet is not at its zero position, the dumb electronics doesn't know at what position the magnet is when you switch the POS back on. It treats the new position as zero. Screwdriver is you best friend. And a small metric hex key (throw away you imperial set, you will never need it anymore) for fine adjustments with a setscrew on the steel cable moving the magnet.
Thank you!! I bought a used M5 and the resistance didn't change. This fixed the problem completely. Very helpful.
You just saved me hundreds of dollars and heart ache, mine was broke for a year but now fixed w your remedy!!! Thanks sooo much!!
Watching this video saved me a few hours of taking things apart and poking around endlessly. Thank You! Once I knew what needed to be fixed it ended up being quick and easy.

Goodman . I called Bowflex/Nautilus.....and when i was on hold, i was searching youtube troubleshooting. You fixed the problem . Thanks man

Whoever designed the cover to this thing should be arrested.

Well done. Clear, concise, informative. Thank you.
Just wanted to say thank you. This walked me right thru fixing our machine. I thought level 16 was kinda easy. Now it's a bear!
I have the M7, and it had an identical problem. THIS CURED IT! Many thanks!
Thanks for taking the time for getting to the issue and posting the video. Worked for me!!

for a $1000+ piece of equipment it sure does have a lot of issues
Thank you very very much this was extremely helpful, it fix my resistance problem on my M5, thank you again you're awesome.
You rock! Thank you! Fixed my M7 that changed based upon your video.
Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed to see!
Great video thank you had a similar problem when I took off the plastic cover I noticed the cable which moves the magnetic piece was loose...easy fix there is a small cable clamp with an Alan headed screw that had slipped. So just had to readjust it works great again!
Thank you thank you THANK YOU for posting!! I was dying on the machine (Max 7) and knew something was wrong. This fixed the problem. Thanks so much!!
感谢您的视频,虽然我还没回家修,但我看到修好的希望了,帮我省钱了,感谢!(对照着翻译看您的视频真的费力😂)
This is perfect! I didn’t know how that worked, and I know this happens sometimes. Thanks for posting this.
Great instructions!!! In my case the white quarter pulley was in the correct position but the cable on the other side and not in the slot. This saved me so much frustration and money, I do not know how to thank you.
Thanks for the video, had the same problem on my M7, took the white part off the servo and readjust, works great now, there is a dot on the servo and the white adapter, that line up when set to max setting, so help for putting in the right spot, after pulling white adapter off servo.
Thank you from the other side of the pond . Worked a treat!
Thank you for this. I was able to fix my Bowflex M5 resistance issue. Works like new again!
Followed your video and my M5 works great now! Thanks so much!
Ty so so so much! We had the same issue & you made such an informative & easy to follow video that we had it fixed in no time!:)
This worked great on my machine as well. I bought it used and it was installed wrong on my machine as well. Thank you.
EXCELLENT! THANK YOU, BUDDY!!! I FIXED MINE THANKS TO YOU!!!
hey, I had the opposite problem where it was too hard to use. If you rotate the white part counter clockwise a notch or two it feels so much better.
Bro you're f****** bad ass you hooked it up man thank you so much I bow to you...
Just fixed mine after watching this video. Thanks.
Ty bud, helped me fix mine today. God bless you.
Thank you for this video. Helped me fix my trainer!
Im buying a used one from an elderly woman who bought it new and then realized the arthritis in her knees were too bad to use it. I need to disassemble it to load carry it out of her house and get it in my SUV. What tools will I need? What size allen wrench? Thanks
Thank you!. You Just fixed mine also.
Thanks! We bought an M7 used and it was so hard to use. We turned the white plastic piece and the resistance levels now work.
Thanks... Adjusted the magnet position and it works well again. Not sure how it came to move out of place to start with.
Had the exact same issue, thank you for the fix!
Thanks! Saved me a bunch of time.
Thanks for this! When you corrected the plastic piece's position, where did you place the magnet? Should the magnet be at the bottom (least resistance or top (most resistance)?
Thanks, going to take mine apart this weekend,, mine is way to easy at level 16... hopefully its a easy fix as that white pie piece..
Perfect video! Simple fix. Thanks for posting
Thank you. This fix really works!!
What a life saver!
Definitely the worst purchase we have ever made. It was problematic from the monentvwe took it out of the box. If you're thinking about buying one, save your money, don't.
Thank you!! It worked for my M5
What happens if I use the elliptical everyday?
Only one question I have does all this affect the motor? The blue motor above the white pie-shaped wheel?
I just bought the m9 and finished putting together. Mine feels very stiff and difficult to use. Is that normal?
Thank you! Very helpful!
Thank you! This fixed my problem
They are selling me a max bowflex max m5 for $500 that won't let change speeds? Is it an easy fix?
How do you remove the plastic my plug came undone
I’m having the hardest time trying to remove the cover, how do u do it?
Thank you! Extremely helpful!
Thanks! That exactly fixed me up.
Any chance on getting a video on how to reassemble this thing nothing is lining up.
Yes sir, thank you very much!!
Такая же модель стоит у меня дома, сбросил уже 7 кг за три недели, тренажер класс. Покупал в магазине зона спорта, не первый раз туда обращался
Anyone know which screw goes where? Ugh! I took them out and just realized they are different sizes. Two large and two small. Which go where?????
The longer ones are the side screws. The shorter ones go at the top and bottom. Took one person holding the side flap in place just right to engage the side screw while another is turing it in the hole.

@@norcalkid2776 Thank you for the detailed information. I will try the second option as soon as I find a used m5 in my area :)
Mines looks like your and still won’t change resistance
Thank you!
THANK YOU!!!
Good fix demo but I might add the magnet position should be fine tuned as well. The position of the magnets can be fine tune by adjusting some lock nuts and or adjusting the play on the cable, see video link.

Makes sense.
Thank you for this great video!!
mines keep clicking
Your servo motor might be bad. Mine began clicking yesterday, and that appears to be the issue. I've ordered a new one and will install it.
Прекрасный тренажер!Очень эффективный, приобретя его в магазине Зона спорта я уже похудел на 13 кг, рекомендую!
спасибо, тоже думал у них купить.
