    I agree these are good choices. However I do think delay is important for any board in these genres. On the affordable front there are a lot of good options, but I have been very impressed with the JHS 3 series pedals and the new Walrus Fundamental series. Lot of bang for the buck in those lines and they have all the bases covered in them. Also.... hate to say it... people will need a tuner pedal!

    • @thesethingsmakenoises
      @thesethingsmakenoises  Рік тому +1

      Yeah you might be right there! The 3 series pedals are such good value. I should really add a jhs pedal to my board!

      The Joyo Analog Delay is very good and very underrated. And it's only $35 new on Amazon. I picked up a used one years ago for $15 and it's still going strong.

  • @conalmcintyre

    All classics. It's nice to see a budget pedalboard recommended as buying less pedals but still buying really solid high end gear - the only thing better than a Rat is two Rats!! One budget pedal that I'm very fond of is a reverb called Snake Bite by Caline - I own two of them and they're great for playing around with in series but I always go back to the Holy Grail. I also love that it's called Snake Bite - I assume the marketing team have no understanding of either reverb or snakes.

    • @thesethingsmakenoises
      @thesethingsmakenoises  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! Yeah my thinking was get pedals that are going to last and make it as affordable as possible. Haha 2 rats would be awesome. Oh I haven’t heard of that before, that really is quite funny. 😂

  • @compucorder64

    For me, I'd probably stump up for Earthquaker Plumes as the drive, but then save a little on the RAT by getting the TC Magus Pro. Then maybe Mooer Ensemble King, because I prefer the Boss CE style chorus slightly, and it's a bit less noisy. For other options, the Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz sounds awesome for just over £20. And if budget could stretch, the TC Bucket Brigade is a really good sounding and well built BBD delay for around £50. Reverb, I don't know if I really like any of the cheap ones that much, though the Flamma FS-02 is quite good, and stereo for about £50 too.

    I know you don't care for multi effects, the Zoom MS series is excellent. I'll recommend the MS70-cdr, which has kept its place on my board for close to 10 years. It punches well above its weight, and could easily handle all reverb, modulation, and delay functions. It's a space saver too!

  • @fcmhockeyvideos

    For me right now it's Behringer SuperFuzz first in signal chain for huge lead or powerchord sounds.
    Then I'll use Digitech Screamin' Blues, BOSS OS2, Digitech FX69 "Grunge", DOD Ice Box chorus, Digitech Digidelay and - for now - a Behringer Reverb.
    The rationale is this : SuperFuzz has a boost option.
    Screamin' Blues, when pushed, can also sound fuzz-distortion-like.
    OS2 allows a blend of OD and DS.
    I would love to find a Digitech Digiverb.

      Yip, would recommend the Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz too. If you are looking for a decent but cheap reverb, can recommend the Flamma FS02 for about £50, and it's stereo too. NUX Atlantic is a good dual delay-reverb for about £100. Above that's it's probably the Walrus Fundamental, JHS 3-series, TC Hall of Fame, Boss RV-6 or EHX Oceans 11. Above that it's second-hand lo-fi reverbs like the great OBNE Dark Star, Walrus Slo or very high-quality but not cheap hi-fidelity reverbs like the awesome sounding GFI Skylar.

    I feel like if you put reverb before distortion you"ll need another reverb in the end of the chain because if you have only one reverb before distortion it'd sound dry and messy (unless you're into this sound), think that's why a lot of pedal partners

    Sorry in advance for the question, I'm quite new to that whole pedal-stuff, but if I wanted to go for a noisier, fuzzier sound, would I just switch the rat out for a fuzz-pedal, or would I use an additional fuzz pedal and then have 3 pedals for some kind of distortion? Seems a bit overkill, but then again for shoegaze maybe not 😅
    Btw. love your videos, watched a ton of them the last days!

    • @thesethingsmakenoises
      @thesethingsmakenoises  Рік тому +2

      I mean I personally have a distortion (Rat, DS-1 etc) and a fuzz on my board. I use the distortion when I want less heavy sounds and then the fuzz for when I want to go all out. The JPTRFX Warlow has a bit of both in one pedal which I love!
