I really wondered why United never bothered with him, when they were looking for a DM. It wasn't really rocket-science - it was January, their squad had the worst season in years - and that bar wasn't set low, they appointed a genious director of football as a manager for some reason and didn't allow him to do any transfers - his speciality, meanwhile Zakaria went at the end of the window for 6mil to Juventus, where he got same wages, that Lingard had at United (who was pushing for a move out at the time btw)
They guy can't stay fit and when he gets injured he needs a few games to get up to match fitness. I like him but he is a no so we should be looking at manu kone who is available in the summer from as low as 26m.
Losing their 3 best CBs, Tomori, Rudiger & Christensen, who all do excellent jobs elsewhere is where it all started.
We have the second best defensive record in the league, it’s not an issue with the back line

Nah kepa has been a rock this season and imo, he's one of the only Chelsea players that seems like he's truly devoted to his club. Even when he fell out of the starting spot, he turned down multiple offers and kept on rooting for his team. That's something almost no player has at Chelsea

On Kepa..these people still living on 2019..talking about professionalism where Kepa stayed quit during his difficult times had determination to come back worked really hard never complained he provided much needed competition and now he has shown how much he loves the club and his elite Mentality to come back after such a tough times..he is one of the best Goalkeepers of the world.. believe it nor stats prove it and with eyes too..no one is perfect he still has gotta do work for crosses and sometimes long shots but I think he has improved there but cannot live on 2019 when it is 2023 move on what a biased bunch of guys..
Yeah for some reason it is somehow impossible to move on from that moment to some people. Plus to some degree his dissapointing first season for that high fee. He has a had a good season and deserves a full season as undisputed no1.

It’s all very well looking at players individually, but as Dave alluded to, most depend on playing in certain positions or systems. You have to build the squad around a system, a philosophy, a style. And then recruit accordingly, including the manager/coach

The thing with Enzo is he is an attacking midfielder. He has proven he is capable of some exquisite passes and assists, but he is rather weak defensively.
With Argentina, De Paul and Paredes helped cover his weak spots and allowed Enzo to display his full powers. But Chelsea does not have any midfielders that can help Enzo and so he cannot actually play to his fullest when at the club.
Scaloni and the Argentina run in Qatar are proof enough the ability and talent are there. You just need the right players and/or system to unlock that. And Chelsea does not have either.
I'd love to see a Man Utd version of this seen as though Statman Dave is a United fan

Rory talked about how Potters appointment was supposed to bring in a new manager recruitment style into Chelsea, how they tried to go away from getting in a big name manager for 2-3 seasons and go again, and then after less than 6 months say that Potter and the new style of appointing managers has failed, it doesn’t make sense, if Chelsea truly want to try this new style of hiring managers where they look to give time then they need to not throw the toys out of the pram after 5 months. If they sack Potter now then they haven’t even tried to implement this new style of hiring managers, give Potter this season and let’s say the first 10 or so games of next season and then you can say “ We gave Potter the time and he just wasn’t good enough” if things are still crap. I think Chelsea with the player recruitment coupled with Potter as a coach can be a very good side in years to come but I don’t think the Chelsea fans will allow it to happen after how they were conditioned by the Abramovic style of hiring and firing

Havertz should 100% stay. The only thing that should change is his position. He is NOT a number 9 and everytime he plays a different role you can see his talent.
The problem we have these days when we debate whether players stays or goes is that we never seem to take into account "squad players". We only think about the players that will be playing on the pitch and this leaves us wanting when players get injured. I think we need to think more analytically and logically than think with our emotions as fans of a football club.

This is were the downfall of Chelsea starts. They spent millions on new players on 8 year contracts. Now they are forced to sell some deadwood to balance the books.
Here lies the issue: It is easy to say that someone has to go. But finding a club who actually buys those players is not easy. Especially as the players are on huge contracts that other clubs won't pay. They might prefer sitting on the bench on huge wages than playing for another team. Also, every other team knows that Chelsea are forced to sell. Which is why they will try to take advantage of that and push the price. So they won't be generating as much money from tranfers as some would excpect.
On the other hand, if they are not able to get rid of some players, they are screwed longterm. Because due to the long contracts they will be limited for further transfers in the next few years.
