I had just heard about Derek passing this afternoon and it was a shock. I met him in December 1970 in the Palace theatre when he played for a concert that Crossroads YFC were putting on. He was the band for the next 10 yrs while I was in the club and a great man to have known. A small folk group I had then (Country Folk) made a recording with him at Ayrspin studio. He was my dance band for my wedding in 1986 and played keyboard for my 60th birthday with 18 others, like Davy Ross. Some of the people I had met and played with since the 70s. I have sat watching his many recordings on Utube (having never thought to look him up on that media) and watching the Stramash I had to leave this comment. So sad to here this news.
We made the long trip through to Mauchline in tribute to Derek. It's only through travelling that we realised just what a journey Derek had to endure on his many trips to play for us over the years. A great trooper sadly missed.
Wonderful afternoon 👏👏❤️
