Unless the car ran a red or turned left in front of it, or entered the roadway in front of it from a driveway, this shouldn't have happened

firefighters definitely, they act like sirens and lights equals ruling the road

@@yeoldeseawitch um... How else are they going to get to an emergency where every second counts to save lives, stop a fire from spreading - doing their job?
In a way yes they "rule the road" as you call it. Really it's called being courteous. If you went to drivers school, you would have been taught that when there is a siren and lights flashing you fucking yield.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no road designed for first responders so they have to use the same road you use. They have to find the quickest most efficient route to get to the scene. If your life was on the line, would you want first responders to be dilldallying, cruising slowly to your aid? I don't think so.

@yeoldeseawitch They also teach "with due regard" in almost every EVOC "Emergency Vehicle Operation Course" so it's very unlikely that they were wreck less.
