As it stands now, we have to just take the explanation from the deputies as gospel of what exactly happened. Body worn cameras gives transparency and accountability to law enforcement officials. They are also undeniable records of what actually takes place on scene and can be used as evidence to clear a deputy’s name in court proceedings as well as defense for the public in case of rights being violated. As law enforcement will always tell you “if you have nothing to hide, then what’s the problem “. There are very few law enforcement agencies across the country that do not have and use the body worn cameras. They are used to protect law enforcement and the citizens and create a public record for transparency.

A Ruger 10/22 does not convert to an AR15, it only changes appearance to look similar.

I'm sure Sheriff Judd meant that the conversion gave it the appearance of an AR....which it does and thats what that conversion is meant to do, but an officer can't tell if it's a .22LR or a 5.56....until he's holding it and looks closely at the stamping on the gun.

Correct. I respect this sheriff, but he is very misinformed and incorrect when it comes to this important topic. Getting these details right matters. Disappointing to see how off base he is about the 10/22 conversion. All it amounts to is cosmetic changes to give a 10/22 "the look" of an AR-15. In terms of chambering and function, it is still just a .22 rimfire semi-auto rifle made to look like the "evil black" AR.

If your deputies would have had body worn cameras the public would be able to see exactly what transpired in this case. As it stands now, we have to just take the explanation from the deputies as gospel of what exactly happened. Body worn cameras gives transparency and accountability to law enforcement officials. They are also undeniable records of what actually takes place on scene and can be used as evidence to clear a deputy’s name in court proceedings as well as defense for the public in case of rights being violated. As law enforcement will always tell you “if you have nothing to hide, then what’s the problem “. There are very few law enforcement agencies across the country that do not have and use the body worn cameras. They are used to protect law enforcement and the citizens and create a public record for transparency.
