Im a Korean American in an area with very few other Koreans. I want to try shooting traditional archery so bad but i have to wait a few years before i have the funds and the time to go back to Korea! Hopefully it's as amazing an experience as it looks.
I am in the exact same situation, my mom is in Korea right now and looking into it a little but I am super jealous and wish I could be there in person! So unfair that school continued only two weeks after my mom left, now I need to celebrate Christmas so I won't even be able to visit! Have you found out anything about ranges or teachers in America?
What do you have to hit to score point? Red circle, black square (with red circle) or any part of target? What is for small black rectangle above square with red circle?
Official rule of traditional Korean archery scoring is unified, and they count only hit or miss on the target. I need to study more regarding the origination of the target design. Thanks for the interests!!

Because the archer is twisting the bow with gripping hand and by thumb ring paradox of double steps, string slapping on the face cannot happen. Please don't worry about it. Thanks!!
Interesting how the string brushes the face after release. Is that the proper way to anchor the stringiest and arrow? Thank you! Google translate: 끈이 풀린 후 얼굴을 스치는 방식이 흥미롭습니다. 그것이 가장 끈끈하고 화살을 고정하는 적절한 방법입니까? 감사합니다!
When drawn, there is a five degree cant to the bow that moves the upper half of the string off of the side of the head. Or at least there sould be. I went and watched the woman loosing an arrow at 1:14. Just before the release, she holds and the arrow is under her chin. At this point, to me, the string is close, but not touching her cheek. The next scene of her loosing an arrow is from behind her and you can see the cant to the bow, but not the relationship of the string to her cheek.
only difference between a war bow and a practice bow is that a war bow is coated with lacquer and then tightly wrapped with silk string from one end to the other, then lacquered again. It's for protection from moisture from rain and snow.
My uncle just bought a traditional Korean bow and we just went bow hunting for moose 5 weeks ago and we just took down a big bull moose in Alberta Canada now his deep freezer is full of moose meat.

I would really love for someone to help me, I want to order such a bow, is 70/80 pounds hard? I've been shooting archery for over 6 years now, should I order 70 pounds or 80? I'm really asking for help!
In Korean archery, if somebody shoot 50~60 lbs bow, we think he is very strong man. When it comes to 70~80 lbs bow, it's awesome. If needed, would you please contact us at info@KnowSuperPower.com for more inquiry?
I'm not a Korean bow shooter but I do shoot traditional bows. I can shoot up to 120 lb. but it took a long time to get there. I started with 35 lb., went to 55 lb., then 90 lb., and finally 120 lb. It took me over 4 months to be able to pull the 90 lb. bow and about 2 years of conditioning to pull the 120 lb. bow. Even today I do most of my day to day practice with a 45 lb. bow. I would recommend starting any archery with a bow under 50 lb. draw weight to perfect your technique before moving on to high draw weights.
@@carlscholer439 It sounds fantastic story-telling. In my opinion, while growing older, we'd better be careful against shoulder muscle(rotator cuff tear) injury due to shooting too heavy poundage bow. Thanks anyway!!
Do you plan to shoot with thumb draw? If so, there's a big learning curve, so I would not go with the same weight you would shooting western style. It takes time to condition your thumb and get used to shooting on the right side of the bow.

How far max distance
Thanks for the comment! Shooting range is 145 meters as for nationwide rule.
Historical max distance was recorded as over 800 meters with a Korean style bow.
@@KpopLyrics365 That's incredible. For Americans, that's ~1.5 Football fields in length (158 yards).
