I don't know how the IDOD works seems like a flex issue, I use to turn nks but I quit that, but you are winning and that's what counts in my book, shooting smaller counts but winning is a good feeling....Great Vid
I'm not surprised. You get the same issues on lathe when machining thin and long pieces of metal with tight tolerances. There's also the flexibility of the tools too (long tools like these), we try to use very thick tools and let them to go out of the tool holder as less as possible .
Thanks for sharing your results with the idod . I would ask the guys that make them for help or talk to Eric . This machine has been promoted big time from other top shooters maybe they have some tips to get it to cut . I agree that is way to much variation. I can get better results with my slow Hornady cutter to within.0005.Thanks again for this video of your experience ,was on the fence about getting one .
I just turned 100 cases of 6.5 PRC on the Autodod after fire forming yesterday. Each pc was exactly between 12.5 -12.75 thou. I'd say there is a set up issue. When I first got mine, I didnt set it up correctly and turned brass that wasn't concentric enough for good results and would get crazy tolerances like you mentioned.
@@paulsandie9548 I set the inside cutter to barely clean up inside of neck, then adjusted the main dial indicator to bring the outside to cut equally with that inside amount of cut, which was barely skimming it. Then I started adjusting the outside cutter until it took a full complete cut off the outside. Then I split that between the inside and outside again using the dial indicator. I kept them equally cutting until I got close to .013. I just made sure to initially set the inside cut first, and borrowed from that for the outside, until I was confident I wasnt removing too much material overall. Then I adjust the cut speed slower until I got 12.5. It may not be the correct way, but it's how I got the cuts in and outside to be as concentrically equal as possible while still leaving the desire neck thickness for my chamber.
It's to early to tell, I will know more next week when I get out to 600 yards, but it looks good. The reason I wanted to change is because brass is supposed to last much longer. If that's true then it will be cheaper in the long run. If it more accurate then it will be a double bonus
I don't believe that the cases are free floating in the idod, so if there is any runout in the case body to neck area it might cause a problem, which does not occur with the PMA or 21st Century tool.
Thanks for sharing Bruce...Greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the videos Bruce. Sometimes the simple ways are the best. I would hope Bryan Blake could easily tell you what’s going on with the idod.
Appreciate your videos Mr. Bruce. Thanks for posting these up. 👍
Thanks Bruce for the video and letting people know your experience of the idod .
Could save folks alot of money and use the 21st century turner .
if anyone has been trying to find the track at the end of the videos it's "Here it Comes" by TrackTribe

I do the exact same thing with my 21st-century cutter and I’m very happy with it well said 👍🇺🇸

How did you end up setting yours up correctly

@@flooded3456 Appreciate you explaining your procedure
What powder are you getting the best results for the 7prcw
I use the handheld rcbs neck turning tool and had my neck turns to seven 10,000s of an inch consistently

How many rounds do you want on a new barrel before you do a neck clearance test?
Hey Bruce what is your thoughts of the 7prcw vs when you was shooting the .284 Winchester

Are you getting any donuts by turning before fire forming? Thank you for the videos!
So far no doughnuts!
@@bruceteel7 great to hear!
Wow you probably ssved me 2000 bucks right there..lol
