      It's an old school way to cut holes in wood, usually they just had one cutting bit, were unbalanced, and were probably used on something like a post drill, which had a very slow speed.

    Another option that I found easier was to use an auto exhaust trim ring which is a stainless steel ring that comes in various inside-outside diameters and is already fabricated with the holes. They usually come with the rivets too. Then, it was just a matter of putting the jingles on the ring.

    hey bro what do you think of making homemade zildjian l80 cymbals? like getting a drill and drilling mutliple holes (not as tiny of course) in an old cymbal. i want to try it but am not sure if itd be a waste of time or not..

    Don't cut out the inner ring. Leave the cymbal bell and normal hole for the hi-hat rod. Mount the jingles with rivets. Mount the new tamb-cymbal upside down on the hi-hat OR place it on its own clutch. You (probably) want the jingles suspended in the air, not lying on the hat. Throw a rag on/off as needed per tune.

    Hey David, have you ever considered doing a build of a spiral cymbal? They make cool effect cymbals on most other cymbals. Almost like a sizzly sound.

    I used the cymbal (hoop crasher) that you did and made it back into a CYMBAL RING CALLED THE HALO, simply by off setting a drill hole and putting back on the cymbal stand and adjusting the angle and got like a Halo wobbling chime gong kind of sound, quite cool, i tryed a 14 zilidjan and a 16 sabian which gave it a different style sound so you could vary your sound by maybe changing the felts or rubber to muffle or just the right size hole to the cymbal stand i think seeing as you asked in this edit what to do with the offcut hoop i had already sat there and thought, thought of the HALO with some help to advance i think there is something in this idea so give it a try, your the man for this task as the HALO makes a oserlating chime and could be some thing to move things forward in the cymbal world of drumming ,respect from a fan.

    Your videos are extremely good, have been watching since 800 subscribers! I think you should make one of those jingle rings with the outer ring of the cymbal. You might have made one already, I can't remember. Benny greb uses one; you can put one on a snare and the snare sound becomes more metallic and popping

    Take that scrap ring, drill two small holes in it, run some string through the holes and suspend it like a gong. I've always wondered what that would sound like, especially if it were a full cymbal with just the bell cleanly cut out.

    i was thinking of making a mini stack like you have in the video, with a sound similar to benny greb's mini stack, but i didn't have any ideas. it wood be awsome if you find a way to build something like that at home with some simple tools and share with us!

    Can you show us how to make a hi hat tambourine, like john bonham

    • @mikebarker9187
      @mikebarker9187 6 років тому

      He didn't make the Bonham style tambourine, which is mounted on the hi-hat rod with its own clutch. To make one of these, follow David's use of a cymbal cutout for attaching the jingles. But do not cut out the inner ring of the cymbal. Don't make a ring. Instead, mount the jingles to the outer edge of whatever cymbal you use (cut down to size or not), and then place this jingle-cymbal on its own clutch, and mount it on the rod above the normal hats. This jingler is driven by the foot action of the hi-hat, not by striking with sticks..... Or just go buy one of these things and a clutch to go with it.
