yesss I completely agree with this! I heard someone say recently that she would rather be disliked by some for being who she is than to be loved by many for being something she's not.
I agree- musicians now, especially online are more than just musicians-we are entertainers and personalities as well. If you have a record label- they network and market for you. But most are independent artists you have to network and market for yourself and showing people who you are is the best way to connect. I’ve struggled with it too. I see artists who share less and artists who share more and I’ve worried about being too much one way or the other. But- I think that’s just part of being yourself. I’m a bit of an chatterbox/ storyteller in real life, so why would I try to be different online...seems like a lot of work to upkeep a separate persona. It’s branding right? Sharing and being genuine is part of branding which is so so important I think. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts :) Also, WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST?!?! 😂
lmfao. i legit laughed out loud when I read that last part! Weird answer but chinese food. Specifically that seafood thing called like super happy house seafood box or something? Anyway it's pretty good lol. But yeah on a serious note i completely agree with everything you said. I've also worried im too much one way or the other as far as sharing stuff. I think it's def good to be genuine, but I also think if we're not posting that much because we're genuinely not that expressive, maybe it's actually an opportunity to learn to become more open? Or maybe if we're super expressive than just gauge it based on our audience's reaction perhaps. Thanks for the comment, I'm also a pretty big story teller/conversationalist in real life and a big reader/writer hence my long ass responses lol.
@@ChrisSnyderGuitar Seafood Chinese food...definitely interesting haha. It sounds better than my ultra low effort beef jerky 😂 I think it has definitely been a bit of a curve in learning how to share online in a way that is expressive and genuine and not just attention grabbing or annoying. But it's kind of fun once you start having an audience who knows you. It's probably my favorite part of the whole thing. I went out of town camping this weekend and I made a little insta story explaining why I wouldn't be online for 3 days and it was the first time that I felt like I needed to do that. Like if I didn't do it, then there would be a bunch of concerned messages of what happened to me when I got back. It was kind of a sweet feeling.
@@CelloKat aww that's cool! Also cool you went on a camping trip, I actually never went camping but I've always been interested. Yeah one thing that's been happening to me is I've been seeing this Dove on my morning walk and I've been posting updates about him. I saw him so many times that I did a poll in an insta story where people could vote on his name - either Birdman Sam or Harry Doveman, and Harry Doveman won lol. I get the same feeling when I post an insta story of Harry and people think it's funny and weird, which it is heh. Love having that connection with people on a more personal level like you were saying.

Yes I completely agree with this. I don't want to pretend to my audience either, I'd rather they like me for who I am than for someone I'm not.

@@ChrisSnyderGuitar yes that's definitely a good way of thinking in my opinion
