  • Haka is an expression of identity, belonging, respect, mana and more. It can be performed in times of sadness, celebration, when expressing a position, or to honour someone. Our school Haka, is a Taonga (Treasure), which was composed especially for PNBHS by Mr Manu Kawana of Rangitāne, who then gifted it to our school. The Haka also identifies those belonging to our school, past and present.
This year the Club Haka competition was fiercely competed for on Thursday, 29 September, in the School Hall. Mr Lobb, Mr Hemara and Mr Williams were invited to judge. All three judges have significant experience in the art of Haka, and they brought their cultural expertise to the role, emphasising the significance and value of Haka to Palmerston North Boys' High School.
All kaea/leaders of the Clubs were impressive and provided leadership on the stage.
The winning team made a unique arrangement in their choreography. Gordon club honoured retiring educators and club stalwarts Mr Drake and Mr Bester by dedicating their Haka to them in recognition of their outstanding service at Palmerston North Boys' High School.
    Congratulations to all Clubs.
