Wait. Anthony Ramos was on Broadway WITH Ariana? How could he just let that joke slide?

This was pretty disappointing given they both worked on Hamilton. Expected more from him.

Yes, This Wish may not be the best Disney song but Ariana's performance is very good. She has been in Hamilton and other musicals on Broadway
Ryan has been singing since 1993 and had several musical projects and Jack Black was the vocalist of the band Tenacious D

Yesssss, I cried the first time I listened to “This Wish”, I haven’t seen the movie but she’s a Broadway actress, she’s trained to sing!! How could they toss shade at her like it’s nothing…
She has a gorgeous voice. That comment was completely nonsensical. Why Bella & Anthony didn't go off script to correct it is something I'm sure they'll regret for a very long time
This was merely a writer who isn’t a comedian that tried to be funny and the team who approved it. Some jokes that take jabs are only funny if it’s true, and this comment wasn’t true. Award shows should really focus on a great experience for the guests and audience and good writing. The insults are lame, cringe, dry, flat and not funny. And the presenters saying these insulting jokes aren’t naturally like that so hence the delivery of the joke falls flat. What’s crazy is in 2024 they’re still trying to box in actors and singers as if that’s all they can do. You forget, creative people are creative period. It doesn’t limit their talent to just one thing. I sing, sang in the choir, did theater in high school, I write poetry/ songs. I draw/ paint and enjoy different mediums of art which later evolved to digital art (photography, graphic design, etc) I love decorating, creating a cohesive aesthetic environment from my home to a set for a photoshoot, I love designing fashion and styling, I love doing makeup & hair. And this year I started learning how to do my own acrylic and gel nails at home and that’s another creative outlet for me. This is over the course of many years evolving and learning more about what I’m capable of. Artistic people hate being boxed in 😂. Give us room to be creative and stop with the ridiculous judgement. Anthony totally missed an opportunity. A HUGE opportunity! He would’ve gone viral stopping the show and calling out that slight. But I guess when you’re new in the industry you just keep your head (and mouth) down and do what they tell you to do.

Btw, presenters rehearse so unless they switched the joke at the last minute Bella knew the joke was coming. She also had a choice not to say the joke. I find it interesting how the writers thought it was cool to shade her despite her resume and amazing sweep at the 2022 awards season. Im going to guess the writer was a white dude who didnt mind crapping on an accomplished woman of color. And Anthony Ramos is trash

Honestly, it just seems like they didn't really know that much about her singing career, but it seems like she's more viewed as an actress in the public guy than anything else. But at the end of the day the joke was still funny but I understand why she's upset so I'm not really mad at anybody

Everyone has “physical limitations “--but she literally won an Oscar for singing and dancing in West Side Story. She’s been taking vocal lessons for years and has been in musicals on Broadway. That was an insult. And I’m personally insulted by your comment. I do have physical limitations and if someone made fun of me they’d just be a bully. It didn’t belong at an awards show.

it seems like you're sticking up for Ariana but ignoring Jack Black and ryan Gosling as singers. All three of them are singers. are you trying to protect Ariana because she is a delicate little woman who can't take a joke? either all three of them should be offended or none of them. personally I did not find the joke funny.
Let's blame the award show writers for not doing their homework or thinking the line through- shame. And Anthony for not correcting, but he prob just wasn't thinking in the moment bc presenting in a situation like that isn't normal. He was prob thinking if he should embarrass his co-presenter or let it go.
He was thinking. They all rehearse what they’re supposed to read before hand and he knows very well who Ariana is.
At the end of the day it’s just a silly, stupid joke, but Anthony should’ve had her back with a a whitty comeback.

I doubt that Jack Black and Ryan Gossling were offended by it because for them it's true. Their primary career is not singing and mostly only sing as part of some of their acting roles. But the joke is not true for Arianna. She is a Broadway star so for her singing is just as big a part of her job as acting is. That is the only reason the joke is offensive for her specifically. But there is no way for Bella to know that unless she is familiar with her career which I don't think she is. I think she just read what was on the teleprompter and assumed that Arianna was an actor primarily, same as Jack and Ryan. Also, being a woman has nothing to do with anything in this situation.

Until this video, I had no idea who she is as well. The only Ariana I've heard of until now is Ariana Grande. BOTH are singers and that joke was both unfunny and insulting.
That was cruel especially since she has sung in several plays etc. The writers of the jokes are the most to blame.
I'm a big Ariana Debose stan and if you'd like to check out some of her best vocal moments, I can definitely recommend - her opening number from the Tonys, This Is Your Round of Applause is great, and I would also 100% recommend checking out her song Over and Done from the show Schmigadoon - she is a true triple threat, amazing actor singer and dancer

Why was Ariana Debose insulted at the Critics Choice Awards. The joke was cruel and definitely NOT funny. Ariana has a beautiful voice. Obviously, Bella Ramsey thought she was being funny, but she proved she is NOT a comedian. Don't know if she was 'forced' to tell the joke, but she should have stuck to presenting and reading the name of the winner. I hope Ms. DeBose doesn't allow this stupid incident to stop her meteoric rise in the entertainment industry.

😳 I don’t get why awards are a time when writers feel they’re obligated to look for ways to publicly hurt and humiliate the nominees and attendees, and if you don’t laugh while the camera’s right in your face you’re the a-hole who can’t take a joke. Announcers, please just 1) read the fricken names, 2) announce the winner 3) and go back to your seat.

I was shocked. My mouth literally hit the floor as soon as that inaccurate comparison was uttered, and Ariana's face confirmed that I was not the only shocked person. OK, so just to let everybody know they do not write the script for these shows. writers do. Anthony could have given notes about it but 10 times out of
10 actors just perform the words.

I teach students to sing. I think 'jokes' like this are just pointless and not funny. Most people in entertainment have multiple talents, whether they decide to do it professionally or not. Each of those nominees are singers, entertainers, actors, and musicians! All so talented!
