- In the Fall of 2023, I completed a full through-hike of the Arizona Trail (AZT).
On this journey I hiked 800 miles solo across the entire state of Arizona (from Utah to Mexico) via the Arizona Trail, completed over 45 days. I hiked 160 of these miles at night. I slept all 45 nights outside with just a plastic ground covering and sleeping bag as my shelter. For the first 30 days I carried a tarp, which I used on one night for 30 minutes when it rained. For the final 15 days, I just carried a poncho in my back pocket as my sole shelter (no tarp or tent). I was personally surrounded by coyotes on my third night, and was in close proximity to hunting coyotes on my 16th night. I recorded cellphone audio of these encounters, which I included in the film. I hiked through a controlled burn area, and was the first person to walk through an area recently burned by a forest fire (I was there the morning the Ranger opened it back up to the public). I carried a 14 pound baseweight, 7 pounds of which was camera gear. All shots were filmed, colorgraded, and edited by me.
The two songs used in this film are listed below. They were licensed for authorized use.
Jacob Vallee - Engima
Tony Anderson - Eclosion
Thank you for watching.

What an unbelievably beautiful movie! I was riveted!
Beautiful filming! Thank you
This was lovely. Thank you for sharing your journey
Hey! I just came across this last night, I really enjoyed it! I'm use to watching your videos of the AT and now the PCT, hearing you talk about your day and your thoughts. In this one, without even talking you captured so much of your hike that I feel I almost know what it's like to be there! Your filming is wonderful! I know during your hikes you have interviewed some people, other hikers, trail angels etc...I think someone needs to interview you!
Wonderful video. Great sound and colors. Good luck on the PCT.
Sentient in so many ways.
I'm watching this and can't believe how beautiful it is. The landscape changes so much.
The night shots are magnificent and magical.
Holy shit... The bees at the water source. This whole hike is impressive.
I've been enjoying your AT videos and look forward to seeing you when you reach NJ.
Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Just stepped into New Jersey a few hours ago.
And thanks. Yes, the diversity of Arizona is incomprehensible. I had no idea walking into it. It’s a hidden secret.
@JaruWalks look at Far Out comments at mile 1340.3

I love Arizona and the AZT. I really enjoyed this documentary. The silence, the coyotes howling. Thanks for sharing.

Your fortitude is admirable
This was so beautiful….you are a poet. I hope more people find your channel. Good luck and be safe.
Thank you! This is by far my favorite video I have ever made. And I particularly appreciate that you clearly saw in it what I felt in it.
My man, we welcome you to Hiking UA-cam. And what a brilliant and lovely introductory video. Bravo !
Thank you!
Great hike! Betcha them coyotes smelt ya too! Hair raising! Your red light wouldve drove me nuts 😂 So why is the Terminus across the Border? Im following your CYTC!
The border fence is actually built by Americans on American soil 1 foot before the exact border, which is exactly marked by the obelisk I am standing on.
Amazing. What camera did you use?
Sony A7Siii camera, GM 24mm f1.4 lens, FE 85mm f1.8 lens. Thank you!
You kind of timewarped from Lemmon to Mica. Did you stop at Hutch's Pool?
Good observation. My powerbank died for the third and final time 4 miles south of the Mt. Lemon General Store. At that time my camera battery had 15% charge remaining. So I decided to use it on whatever felt to be the most scenic shot between there and Vail (my next opportunity to recharge my battery). In retrospect, I think I chose correctly, sunset summiting Mica. Yes, I did stop at Hutch’s pool for an hour or so. I remember being particularly happy when I found it. , My phone had died, so I had to find it by using my watch, an estimate of my walking pace, and watching my surroundings closely.
You are doing the Triple Crown attempt, correct?
Correct! I’m attempting a calendar year triple crown in 2024. I’m five days into the AT right now. I’ll post more videos soon once I find time to edit them. I’m posting more dailyish updates on my insta too, @jaruwalks.
@@JaruWalkshave a great time and best of luck!
This video is moving poetry. I don't need to tell you how much skill you have as they are so clearly demonstrated. Thank you for sharing and my best wishes for your calendar year triple crown.
