Other then that I’m going to forward your video to a lot of people that have been stuck ..
Jay Bee That‘s kind of you 👍🏻 That problem you face sounds strange to me. I haven‘t faced that yet. May it be because it creates a thumbnail for every file (fileextension) it finds in these folders? For example, if your PSX game folder contains .cue and .bin files, Skraper may create an image for each appearance. Maybe this needs an extra config step to solve and tell Skraper to only respect .cue files. That‘s my only idea so far.

Is there any way to just scrape new ROMs that I add? I unchecked the box that says "Cleanup output folder before generating new media" thinking this would work, but it doesn't, every time I add just 1-2 ROMS that I want to scrape, it still scrapes the entire folder. Any advice?

I just asked on their Discord server and apparently, you can't easily do what I want to do. Thanks for the help!
@@Gumdoc9 Thank you! I understand now what you really want (and not what i mean) ;). I think there is no option. You have to skrape the whole Directory each. But - where is the Problem ? If you have not 1000x Roms that took not much time. I have tryed it with my GB Roms (>400) and it takes about 2 Minutes. Try to buy a "A3" SD-Card to improve Read- and Writing-Speed or try a USB-3 Cardreader. And finaly: i have seen that the Skraper-Server is sometimes very slow. Try to skrape on different times on a day.
I get "no roms found" everytime on windows Pc using Portable Game Station/Emulation Station. Something to do the with %ROMROOTFOLDER%\. Maybe should be the path fo roms instead e.g "G:\Portable_Game_Station\.emulationstation oms 64"
Hi my friend. The ROMROOTFOLDER needs to point to the roms/ folder not to a specific folder with roms in it. It is must be set to the root folder, that contains all other folders with roms for your system. In your case it must be set to: G:\Portable_Game_Station\.emulationstation oms You define that folder when you setup Skraper using the wizard. I mentioned that in my video ;) watch the scene where i show the setup of Skraper using the wizard.

Now im stuck on no gamepads detected and i tried 2 different usb super nintendo controllers, keyboard, usb bluetooth to xbox 1 controller and I get nothing. im stuck on the no gamepads detected screen. Do you got any clue how I can fix this?
Hey dude, i‘m sorry to hear about your troubles but i‘m not familiar with raspberryPi. The system i‘m using here is the RG350. Better ask on a raspberry forum. Sorry
@@MashTec I just ended up reinstalling everything. Which is kinda cool because I learn more about it. I bought this raspberry pi 3 model b off of ebay loaded with games. Thanks for responding!
Hey my friend, the option appears in the menu, but it has no function. So unfortunately no, it‘s not possible. You have to use an external tool like Skraper.
Hello. Great Video. I really love the way emulation station looks and works on the RG350 but I've been using simple menu because I can't find a way to setup favorites in emulation station on RG350 similar to how they work on retropie.Any suggestion on setting up favorites? thank you
Hi Jose. Sorry i don't have a 'out of the box' solution for you. But if you don't fear editing, i' sure you can make yourself an own favorites section in the themes.xml file. But that means to add games handwise to the file each time you add/remove a game :( not very handy, but could work.
Anyway to grab the art assets directly from screenscraperDOTfr? Because it makes a lot of mistakes as far as region specific assets are concerned, even if you've told this (or Skyscraper) to prioritise one region over the other. For example, you'll have the box of the UK release, the unique logo from the US release, the marquee of the JP, and so on. So bad that I'd rather just pull every asset available for a game and just sort it out myself.
Unfortunately not. Still even though this Skraper has issues, i still think it‘s the best you can get and most user friendly to use. Maybe you find something here: gbatemp.net/threads/cover-collections-for-emulators-with-cover-support.324714/ The boxart from the libretro archive (RetroArch) can also be downloaded from their servers.
Hello, I scraped the system won't start. I watched your video about custom themes however I am unable to select the theme because it won't boot. any ideas to help? Thank you.
When I use Skraper, it takes FOREVER to download everything, even for just 10 games (e.g: I’m downloading video for 10 Wii games and it takes more than an hour, when it seems to take 9 seconds for you to get way more than 10 NES games scraped) Do you know what’s causing this?
Hi my friend, Scraper is a "online" service. It depends on how many users currently make use of it. It you hit a traffic peak or have a lot of roms to scrape it might take a huge time for Skraper to finish the job. Sometimes the servers are down for maintenance. You may whant to try it again another day.
Great hearing the FF victory theme. Just a quick question, can this tutorial work for scraping on the 351p in ArkOS at a basic level? (My computer is obviously faster than the 351 in scraping) and have a large number of games to scrape and try to sort out. Reason being is to try and eliminate duplicate games under slightly different file names which is tedious as hell.
No no my friend, this tools adds boxart to your game list ;) But most emulators can handle both, .zip files and the regular rom file ending (e.g. .smc)
hello, man, tks to the video. But, I have a question... The SKRAPER is not working and screenscraper is down too. Do you have any option to make it automatically in my roms? Thank you very much!
I‘m glad you joined my community :) I just checked for you...looks like the servers will be down for longer :( you‘re not alone. Many people are currently waiting for the servers to come back up again.
@@MashTec Its sad, because its my first raspberry, I bought last week. Well, I will wait, because I can play the games, It's just more esthetical and intuitive to see the images in the screen. Do you know where can I get all the bios of MAME to put in raspberry?
Yes, i fully agree. The esthetic party really matters. It feels different when you scroll through your games and you see boxarts that give you an impression of each game. You can find the BIOS pack for MAME here (depends on your rom set). archive.org/details/MAME_0.202_ROMs_bios_devices
hi, i've a problem with scraping the sega genesis, at boot after the emulationstation boot screen it stuck on a black screen, i've alreaby scrape some other sistem without problems, and on the gamelist.xml of the genesis i've already check the special character, what can i do? if i remove the gamelist.xml it start normaly but without the covers.
Edit your gamelist.xml with Notepad++ (or another editor) and change ALL of the vowels with apostrophes into vowels WITHOUT apostrophes. EmulationStation can't read vowels like á é ú ó or í. It should work this way.

Hey my friend. Yea, the servers of skraper are currently down :( you‘re not the only one facing trouble with it. I hope they come back up soon. This happened before, some time ago. I don‘t know the reason...maybe server maintenance.
Hello again, i decided to scrape anyway without renaming the GBA ROMs. I can always do that later. After scraping ES seams to get stuck loading...then closes without even going in...is there a limit to the amount of ROMs? Is it struggling in loading all the pictures?

Another Great Video _ Thanks MashTec :) - I already have all of the artwork locally on my PC resized using FSResizer - I wonder if I can point the scrapper to my folder housing all of my artwork on the PC instead of getting it offline ?
Hi Ken my friend, i haven't found an option like this in Skraper. So i doubt that i exists. But you can scrape your roms again with Skraper and see how they perform? ;)
Hey dude, ES doesn‘t slow down your system. It‘s actually an application running on your system to provide you a nice and well organized frontend to it. It uses the same emulators as your system does, so your games will run in same speed as if you start them from the system menu. In short words, ES just improves the interface and user experience of your RG350 ;)

Have you had any success with the RG350M? I thought I'd give it a go, using your guide for setting up ES, which is all good. But when I tried to add some boxart using these steps I encounter problem where ES crashes out after loading splashscreen only. It's definitely related to the gamelist.xml. To troubleshoot I removed all gamelist.xml files and works OK. I add one gamelist.xml for gameboy and it fails again. I removed any special char, ensuring no parentheses or exclamation on rom or png names... still crashed. I then removed all except for just one, which was without any special chars: Adventures of Lolo.gb Adventures of Lolo.png But still it crashed. As soon as I delete the gameslist.xml it works OK again. So I'm thinking it's not a strange char causing this now. But have no idea what might be, or if just not going to work on the RG350M model?
Hey my friend, this should work fine on the RG350M as well. I see you already did some important steps to find the problem. Good job so far here :) Check the entries in your es_log.txt. It‘s in the .emulationstation folder. It should give you a hint why it crashed.
@@MashTec thanks I'll take another try later over the weekend. I just removed all the xml for moment so can at least use the launcher just without art. Hopefully the log will indicate the issue im having 👍
Hello again! Thanks for these vids they are very well done. I'm just about to start scraping when I saw that all 3000...GBA games of mine have a number in front of name. Expl. 0001-pokemon. It's all in zip files as well. I haven't checked if the files inside is also named that way...do you have a idea of what to do in such a case? Renaming program?
Hi my friend! I can recommend you this rename tool (it's the one i use too): www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/ IT's free for private use and very powerfull.
Hey man, been watching your videos recently, so I just use skraper today, and I let it scan my rom directories. It recognized all but the ps1 roms. I have those roms extracted, may this be a problem for it? Anyways your videos have been a great help setting up the rg350 and it gets better everytime I work on it. Still lots to iron out but that's half the fun. Thanks for your videos and guides great stuff.
Hi my friend! I have mine extracted too and it works fine for me. I have organized them into subfolders and it finds the boxart for each of my games. So it should work. What are the file extensions of your PSX roms? .cue, .bin and.iso should definetly be supported. The only problem i see here, is that it create a boxart for each file of the game. Need to find a way to fix this :)
Would be nice if it worked. I was not able to log into the Scraper program, or even without using a login. It just crashes as soon as I click next on the login box with an error 'Cannot download screenscraper's supported systems'. It seems to be a common error on google but I didn't find a solution :-( I heard it is because servers are down, but I tried this program every few weeks for a year and nothing works. So unless the servers are down permanently for a year then the program has problems or bugs with something.
Hey dude, i‘m sorry for the problems you face. It‘s true, the Skraper servers have a lot of problems in the past because of heavy user load. Remember, it‘s a free service so many people use it. Try to use it at some unusual time, maybe at night. Sorry i have no better tip for you. At the time i made this video they didn‘t have those huge problems.
@@MashTec I tried for 1 YEAR, it doesn't work. It's a software thing. I can manually log into the website and see the artwork and manually get images, but not through the Scraper program. It simply won't log in even when selecting the 'no account' option. It just throws up an error box and then stops. Might be Windows 7 incompatibility so I need to set up a Windows 10 PC and test it again. I never use W10 because updates can't be turned off and updates always cause problems. My Windows 7 PC has NO updates and works just fine. Plus W10 has big problems and telemetry & spying built in.
Hey dude, that may be worth a try. FYI: AFAIK Windows7 is no longer supported by Updates also means that you don‘t receive any security updates. Keep that in mind dude ;) It might be a trade-off to decide moving to Win10 with it‘s downsides (maybe there are workarounds for it) or staying with Win7 and taking the risk to get hacked because of known unsolved security issues. Hackers search the web for running Win7 machines and try to hack them by known security issues. So if you run your Win7 PC on the internet, you also take a high risk with it. Just a well meant note to you my friend.
Hi dude, Yes, most likely the newly created gamelist.xml files contain special characters, that EmulationStation can‘t read. Search for é or è for example in Pokémon games or Astérix & Obelix and replace them by regular characters like "e". Sorry, EmulationStation is very sensitive with those characters. If you have add many gamelist.xml files, you might start removing them all and dd them again one-by-one to find the particular one that causes the problem. Good luck my friend!

Hello again, thanks for the renaming tool. It worked great. As for ES working...not having a great time. I have limited my ROMs to well below 500 per system. Even taking out whole systems ROMs and still it just hangs in loading screen then closes. It's a shame since without the boxart ES seems to work with full library of thousands of ROMs per system...I haven't gotten the boxart to show yet...maybe the number is just really low...I think I'm at about 380 per system for like 4 systems. I cut pasted other systems out to pc and rerun skraper everytime...nothing. you got some ideas? Can it be Rogue? Limiting memory to the ES application?....didn't seem to have problem before the boxart though.
Hey guys, sorry for the late reply here. Let‘s try to figure out what‘s going wrong here. What happens exactly when you add boxarts? Does it happen for every system? Did you try just to add one image per system...one by one to see where if fails? We need to find an entry point to analyze this problem :)
Uuuh I was to lazy to do that...what I did was delete games till all systems was below 500ish. There were some systems which were much lower just cause of limited games...but I neva tested just one system at a time. Basically it just freezes on start...my guess is that the boxart is overloading the system cash as it's too big. I'l see tomorrow if I have time to just load one system at a time. I'l start with ps1 since I only have like a 100 or so games there. But it works as it should...just...without boxart...maybe the 500 limit was a total...for all systems...damn that's pretty small.
Yes, that‘s true. Honestly, i never pushed my system into these limits since i don‘t own that many roms :) Well, let me know about your outcome dude. Alternatively you can try SimpleMenu. AFAIK it doesn‘t have these limits.
Hi - Great video, this has helped me no end. I have 1 issue though. I'm just scraping C64 at the moment. It generates everything fine. However when I run ES it cashes back to the main GUI straight away (i.e. it doesn't even get to the ES menu). When I remove the xml generated in the folder it loads fine (haven't tried playing the games yet). When I remove the section from the XML it also works fine. I've checked for strange characters. Do you have any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.
Hi charles! Glad to see you‘re working with ES as well. You already did well checking for special characters. This would have been my first hint for you ;) As a next step, start ES again in your faulty case and take a look into the es_log.txt file in your .emulationstation folder after it crashed. It should tell you at the very end what was going wrong.
After removing each line at a time it seems the image line ./boxart/xxxx.png causes the crash. I have checked that the image exists and the path is correct. Have you experienced this issue before?
Sorry to hear about the troubles you face my friend :( It pretty much depends on your rom collection. Some roms have bad CRCs , wrong names or sizes, and so can‘t be looked up properly in the online data-base. The service became sometimes unreliable itself in the past month. It‘s hard to say what might be the source of the problem here :(

@@dirtyzartan Ok, maybe you have some special characters in your gamelist.xml file. Check it for characters like é, ê or similar and replace them by the regular character. Try to skrape on different times on a day.
I get "no roms found" everytime on windows Pc using Portable Game Station/Emulation Station. Something to do the with %ROMROOTFOLDER%\. Maybe should be the path fo roms instead e.g "G:\Portable_Game_Station\.emulationstation

Hi my friend.
The ROMROOTFOLDER needs to point to the roms/ folder not to a specific folder with roms in it. It is must be set to the root folder, that contains all other folders with roms for your system.
In your case it must be set to:
G:\Portable_Game_Station\.emulationstation
oms
You define that folder when you setup Skraper using the wizard. I mentioned that in my video ;) watch the scene where i show the setup of Skraper using the wizard.

Is there any way to skrape directly from emulation station on the rg350? I do have wireless working on my 350 but when I skrape it fails
Hey my friend, the option appears in the menu, but it has no function. So unfortunately no, it‘s not possible. You have to use an external tool like Skraper.
Very nice video! Simple and objective!
Thank you for your feedback dude. Means a lot to me.
But that means to add games handwise to the file each time you add/remove a game :( not very handy, but could work.
how to scrape newly added game without scrapping the whole library again?
Unfortunately, i haven‘t found a way yet to do that. I‘d also love to have this option.
Maybe you find something here:
gbatemp.net/threads/cover-collections-for-emulators-with-cover-support.324714/
The boxart from the libretro archive (RetroArch) can also be downloaded from their servers.
@@MashTec It's alright. If you donate to them you can grab the assets in browser.

Hello, I scraped the system won't start. I watched your video about custom themes however I am unable to select the theme because it won't boot. any ideas to help? Thank you.
Hi dude,
1. remove the gamelist.xml from all of your rom folders.
2. Change to the NBBA theme.
3. Scrape again, and see if it works.
When I use Skraper, it takes FOREVER to download everything, even for just 10 games (e.g: I’m downloading video for 10 Wii games and it takes more than an hour, when it seems to take 9 seconds for you to get way more than 10 NES games scraped)
Do you know what’s causing this?
Hi my friend,
Scraper is a "online" service. It depends on how many users currently make use of it. It you hit a traffic peak or have a lot of roms to scrape it might take a huge time for Skraper to finish the job. Sometimes the servers are down for maintenance. You may whant to try it again another day.
How can I sude this for simple menu? Just do the same thing?
Hey dude, it‘s a little different. I covered that in another video here: ua-cam.com/video/NaNY0C7kHTE/v-deo.html
@@MashTec Thank you. I dont remeber see that on the video, but I gonna watch again. Have a nice weekend. :D
Hi, have you figured out how to scrape for 351p and ArkOS? I`m about to do it this weekend
Sorry dude, no :( i guess for the moment you can only do it manually, e.g. using skraper online.
is this converting zip file to nes?
No no my friend, this tools adds boxart to your game list ;)
But most emulators can handle both, .zip files and the regular rom file ending (e.g. .smc)
hello, man, tks to the video. But, I have a question... The SKRAPER is not working and screenscraper is down too. Do you have any option to make it automatically in my roms? Thank you very much!

Yes, i fully agree. The esthetic party really matters. It feels different when you scroll through your games and you see boxarts that give you an impression of each game.
You can find the BIOS pack for MAME here (depends on your rom set).

if i remove the gamelist.xml it start normaly but without the covers.
Edit your gamelist.xml with Notepad++ (or another editor) and change ALL of the vowels with apostrophes into vowels WITHOUT apostrophes. EmulationStation can't read vowels like á é ú ó or í. It should work this way.
I've already resolve that problem, thanks anyway

Hey my friend. Yea, the servers of skraper are currently down :( you‘re not the only one facing trouble with it. I hope they come back up soon. This happened before, some time ago. I don‘t know the reason...maybe server maintenance.
Hello again, i decided to scrape anyway without renaming the GBA ROMs. I can always do that later. After scraping ES seams to get stuck loading...then closes without even going in...is there a limit to the amount of ROMs? Is it struggling in loading all the pictures?
Some people reported a rough limit of 500 roms per system. I actually don‘t own that many, so i never ran into a limit.
@@MashTec hahaha, ok I thought it might have been that. It did load without the boxart though. The boxart just seems to be to much for it at moment. But ok I'l be more picky and select 500 per system and run scraper again and see.
Can you delete the other emulators and let alone emulationstation in rg350? Coz why do we need standalone emulator anymore?
Hi my friend, emulation station alone can‘t emulate systems itself. It uses/needs emulators. It‘s just a frontend ;) got the point?
Scraper API seems to be down :( I managed to copy over the folder i had in retropie and updated the folder name to boxart and edited the gamelist.xml and it worked :) Still will be better with Scraper though so i'll wait for their servers to be back online and try again.

Hi Ken my friend, i haven't found an option like this in Skraper. So i doubt that i exists.
But you can scrape your roms again with Skraper and see how they perform? ;)
Is using ES would make RG350 slower or it works just fine???
Is ES better than the stock emulators thats comes with RG350?

I then removed all except for just one, which was without any special chars:
Adventures of Lolo.gb
Adventures of Lolo.png
But still it crashed.
Good job so far here :)
Check the entries in your es_log.txt. It‘s in the .emulationstation folder. It should give you a hint why it crashed.

I heard it is because servers are down, but I tried this program every few weeks for a year and nothing works.

If i scraping your 64GB Image then the Emulationstation crashes on boot (RG350) . is there any solution ?
Hi dude,
Yes, most likely the newly created gamelist.xml files contain special characters, that EmulationStation can‘t read.

Frederick Albertyn im having exactly the same issue. All working fine until I try to add boxart.
@@rrwholloway I gave up on that...loosing to much games trying to get it lower and not seeing any results.
Honestly, i never pushed my system into these limits since i don‘t own that many roms :)
Well, let me know about your outcome dude.
Have you experienced this issue before?
charles massey no, this is interesting. Maybe your .png file is too big or corrupted :( so it makes it crash when ES tries to load it.
