Thanks for all the awesome watering tips. I have always used my handy dandy finger moisture meter but recently bought a real moisture meter and findnit invaluable. Thanks for sharing😊👍❤.
Great tips! ❤️your dogs, they are adorable!
Great info! I use my moisture meter when I’m not sure if I need to water-especially in smaller pots. This!
Good video! I had to turn to the moisture meter when I had plants that I was overwatering. We had moved last year from a house with three walls of windows (south, east and west) to a house with just east windows. Big difference. Glad you mentioned things like that in your video. Direction of windows plays a huge part in the care of plants and their watering needs.
It sure does! Are your plants doing well with just eastern light?
@@julienicole92I really had to play around with the plants in front of the east sliding glass door. I also had to put some in an area with a north facing window but added grow lights on shelves. Never had grow lights before!
Oh nice! yeah grow lights can be a lifesaver!
I also have a moisture meter and love it, but what throughs me off is everyone says stick your finger in the pot about 1-2 inches and if dry then water. The problem is when I place the moisture meter to bottom of plant, it reads moist. I just water when meter reads dry.
Yeah it can get confusing! I used just my finger for years and it worked great. I guess you gotta do what works best for you :)
Hi Julie! I've had a moisture meter for years, but can never remember to use it. I need to put it where I see it more often, maybe next to my watering jug? LOL! This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing! BTW, love your dogs! They are so cute!
Really wish you would upload more often! It’s been 2 months :( you truly give plant inspiration!
aw I've been posting recently :)
I love my moisture meter! LoL I am a newbie plant mom. Going on 3 years now and I am so happy I had on. Now I dont need it as much. I was afraid of over watering. And I will still use it just to be sure. Thanks for the video
Great video! I got the same moisture meter and I have to say, it helped me a lot to not over water my plants.
Yes, they can be very helpful! I sometimes use it just to double check, even after checking with my finger
Nice helpful video Julie. I’ve used a moisture meter for a few years because I hate dirt and getting my hands dirty; even one finger. Your dogs are darling and my two Nelly the Eskie and Ozzy the Pom say “hi”🌿🐕🐕💓
Thanks! Also, hello pups!
I use my calender too! Its so helpful so you don't neglect a certain plant!
yes I agree!
I just got a moisture meter, too. I think it is so helpful.
wooohoo! It took me years to actually buy one
Thank you 😊 I heading home with three new plants and looking forward to caring for the ones at home. The info you shared will be super useful!
yayy! Which plants did you buy?!
Marble Queen Pothos , peperomia ruby cascade, and calathea white fusion!!
Very nice!! :D
Love that you explained how you use your moisture meter, and your overall watering routine. 💚
Thanks Erika! :)
Thanks for the watering tips! And love the Roots Canada sweater (I’m in Canada lol)❤️
Thanks! It was such a Canadian outfit, my sweat pants were Roots as well :D
Thanks for the video ....I dug out my 4 way analyzer it looks similar to yours, but three prongs and it only goes down 4”. It’s supposed to measure moisture, ph, light and fertility. Thanks for the cleaning tip 👍I was only wiping it off
Yeah as long as there isn't dirt on the tip, it should be fine. I just like to be super careful because you never know!
I just bought the same moisture meter you have and tried it out yesterday. I thought it was broken because it said all my plants were dry, even my succulents I watered the day before. I did a deep watering today so will try it again and this time put it all the way in. Oh, and because of you, I have fallen in love w/ the Hoya Fitchii. The problem is, nobody has one! I'm on the wait list at Logee's so hopefully they will get some in before the end of summer.
Free Range Diva I have what looks like the same exact moisturize meter from amazon and it has never measured any moisture 🤷🏼♀️
Oh no!! It's strange, I looked back on Amazon and they sent me a different moisture meter than was shown in the photo. Luckily mine is working just fine. I'm sorry to hear yours isn't working correctly! That happened to me when I bought a moisture meter a few years ago, so I returned it
@@Lizaustinlesatz Hi Elizabeth - I tried it again yesterday after I watered and it finally did register. I think the soil has to be really wet.
Free Range Diva thanks to both of you for responding! I guess that had me wondering what its purpose is? We can tell if it’s really really wet... oh well, I’ll stick with my finger.
Great video! If only I'd known this stuff years ago I wouldn't have killed so many plants😭 I thought I had a black thumb.
Well at least you learned! :D
I’m getting 3 different readings. The top is dryer and as I push the meter deeper, it’s more moist. Should I water just the top? Or wait to water? I have some succulent, Marigolds and Sunflowers. Thank you for your help!
Please upload more vids they’re great! I’m loosing plant inspiration
thanks for the info.
No problem!
Great video! Do you use any special water and how often do you fertilize?
I use tap water for most plants. However, for more sensitive plants like begonia, Stromanthe I use distilled water. I am considering getting a water filter and using only filtered water
Hi I really enjoyed this video about using a moister reader . Pothos really like to dry out between watering so would you say that a one would be completely dry ? Or 2-3 ? This is the only thing I’m still working on . Thanks so much
yes for sure! I usually. double check using my finger to, to make sure the plant is bone dry. stick my finger 2-3 inches in the soil
Hi Julie, my husband and I are thinking of doing a road trip coming up. May stop by Logees. Do you recommend any other plant nurseries not too far from there?
I think you should also do a video about making a video. I mean lighting, camera, mic, editing etc. you are making good quality videos.
Do you just use tap water out of the sink or some other kind of water? I'm new to house plants. Thanks for the great info. 👍
You can either use filtered water or tap water. But some say that tap water contains chlorine which may be harmful to some sensitive plants, but what you could is fill your watering can with tap water and leave it over night to dry out the chlorine. Of course, this is what I got from most youtubers, and I haven't really tried it since my plants is still doing well even using tap water. Or you could even use rain water which some say has nutrients that is good for plants. I tried this with my herbs and they seem to be doing well ever since I used this.
So I use tap water for a majority of my plants. For my begonias, Stromanthe, and Pink Panther Episcia I just started to use distilled water, since I noticed the leaves were suffering (mostly noticing crispy ends on the leaves). I do want to start collecting rainwater though!
Please upload more videos!
Do you have a video to see how watering plants?
Thanks. Your video was very helpful. How much do the moisture meters usually cost
Between 3 and 7 euro's you can also buy expensive ones but they work with the same technology 😉so i wil buy a cheap one.
@@happynature6529 Thanks. I'm frugal too 😂
Donna Stovall 😂👍
Mine was about 10 bucks!
Heads up!! I think that putting water on you moisture meter can damage it!!!
I may be wrong but I always make sure to keep water away from mine. I just wipe it off with a dry paper towel💕💕
Yes you are correct. I have the exact moisture meter and the instructions after use say "remove probe, clean and prepare probe with a cloth or tissue".
Thank you for this advice!
What if you have a deep pot but a new plant. If the top 3 inches are dry but the meter reader says wet how do you know the roots can get to this water? Or what if mist of the plant is dry but 1\2 is wet. Do you water it? How to troubleshoot would be helpful.
Do you have a good nursery where you buy your hoyas? They are all so beautiful and I have had some misses when I’ve ordered some hoyas online.
Yep! Gardino Nursery :)
Your dog is beautiful
Thank you! :D
Great video, I use my finger as well, but I also have a water meter, when I first got into plants I tended to over water them, now I lean towards letting them dry out completely then water them, I also let my plant tell me when it needs a drink, because some of them droop when they need water, just like you said, get to know your plants and they will tell you when they need a drink. Thanks for sharing this video, bye for now.
Yes I definitely prefer the old finger method as well!
Do you have any specific tips for a hoya wayetii
hmmm I believe I have the variegated version. I treat it like my Hoya carnosa where I let the soil dry out between waterings, and it's in an eastern window.
안녕하세요 👍😊😘
Tip for anyone who cares lol. Carry a 4-5 gal bucket around the room draining the collection saucers. Just saves a lot of time
thanks for the tip!
How was ur swap party
It hasn't happened yet! Sometime this summer :)
@@julienicole92 okay
Sometimes moisture meters make mistakes, it’s just a assistant, use finger is better.
