Outstanding review! Quick hack to make this tent more stable in high winds- You can use trekking poles (handles up) in the apexes of this tent and guy them out through the vents. I asked Henry about this specific setup to confirm it was a viable option and it absolutely is. I applied some dcf tape to the underside of the tent apexes to reinforce the material there (not out of necessity, just precautionary).
Great review. I just ordered last week. Really looking forward to getting the tent and setting up. I also have a duplex and didn't like messing with the doors and the screen door falling to the floor. The freestanding idea i liked. I will be heading to the white mountains in new Hampshire the next year or two. Section hiking the AT and working my way north. The pod looks like a good idea and i use those for my clothes and ditty bag, a lot easier to find things. I will order the liner and storage unit for the ceiling. It looks like the storage pockets are better as well. Thank you for your great review and information. Da Breeze
Definitely agree…best tent on the market right now. I’ve had mine since they released it and it’s been thru a lot and still going strong. Such a great design. Excellent review video!
Nice review. Just a comment, IMHO I've never seen or heard of a silnylon tent wetting out in the same sense as a rain jacket. Tent silnylons may absorb water but for it to start leaking it to the other side, you'd have to be in a flood. Mostly it will drip down to the bottom (which will be even less of a problem with a double walled). Having said that, when a silnylon tent absorbs water it starts to sag and requires you to go outside and stretch tight.
Yep was in a constant heavy downpour and sagged and wet out. Made packing up extremely unpleasant and weighed down the pack even more. Since we didn’t have the rain stop it couldn’t dry out. I’m in the pnw so it’s more of a issue if you want to backpack a lot. Wish I had video of it but was bad.
That's even MORE $$$ than the SS2 LI which COMES WITH the inner tent. It can be used for star gazing 🤗. BUT , it also has a 3/4 inner tent option for colder weather or sand storm type scenarios. I don't have the 2p. I have the 1p. Which I seriously regret. I have a 27-inch pad in it fits exactly inside that tent no other room . No room for your pack or gear unless you want your head up on a lumpy surface or your feet up all night. Yes both pistols are huge. But it's not the same as having your gear with you !!!!! There is a option which they call a sidecar. I'm seriously looking into that. I ordered it with the two different inner options !! That was a good choice. Your rainbow looks so much more roomier than my tent !!! And I see it's about time tarptent finally got around to making real pockets !!!!!! TARPTENT POCKETS OR LACK OF REALLY SUCK !!!!! There is no storage. Pockets just really help your living space be so much more comfortable and things are where you can get to them. For the price you would think that the rainbow would come with all those options !!! The inner lining, the storage area up above for light or glasses, etc !!!!!! I would love to try your tent out. But with the cost of all the options it is not worth it. And I simply cannot stand a single wall !! The SS tents r NOT free standing which really sucks 😞. This is a real pro for the Rainbow !!!. I NEED a 2p tent and I am still looking for THE ONE !!¡!!!! And A half pound is not a issue if it comes to that. I like ur use a the " pod " system to make putting ur tent away easier for u !!!! Plus, as u pointed out, its h2oness is good. And that can work BOTH WAYS !!! If you have to put a wet tent away !!!! I have considered using the pods myself just for organizational purposes 👍🏽. Glad u r happy with ur tent. It's important to feel good about your gear regardless of how much you spent on it !!!
Have done 5 section hikes of the AT for a grand total of 8 nights and I love it as a 1 person tent. Easy to pitch. I use a Tyvek ground sheet to protect the floor.
Nice indepth review. Ireally like this tent and i think more companies should try and make dome style tents with dyneema. Very few do. The only other one i know is by Lotus gear and there Djeti tent. That is a cool tent too because they back the dyneema material with E-vent material to eliminate condensation. But its a very hard process to make and very expensive. I also think they should make more durable options with dyneema. Backpacks and tents using a thicker dyneema. I know it adds weight and condensation. But some folks are rough on their gear or camp in harsh environments. It may also eliminate some of the clearity of these tents. Can see through some of these dyneema tents quite easily. Happy to see these are back in stock, i do plan to buy one. Stay safe! Hike on!
Late response, but no durability issues at all. No tears or punctures. The tent still looks new. Camped maybe around 60% on granite, so it did see quite a bit of abrasion. Also did two nights in snow recently, also handled at really well. There’s tendencies for condensation, so that needs to be managed somewhat. I’m moving to XMid pro 2, but I still have a soft spot for this awesome tent.
@@ZZ_90 absolutely, a perfect lightweight tent for two people (ideally a couple) doing a JMT. The bathtub floor width is 50 inches wide, so you can fit two wide pads. It's symmetrical so both of you will get the same good headroom while lying down (unlike the Xmid pro 2). It can get little snug when two people sit up inside, so me and my wife we take turns to get changed. The freestanding is a great feature to have, super easy to move the tent around and shake off dirt from the inside. One note - I am starting to use polycro ground cloth and I use thin CCF pad under air pads. After repeated rolling/unrolling the floor feel softer and to me a little bit more fragile.
@@tanvach good to hear man! I appreciate the timely response! I think I am going to pull the trigger on this just because of the options it has for setup and everything you mentioned. If seems to be the best fit and design for our needs. One last question, do you know the length of the arch pole at all? I think I would want to replace the carbon fiber one with an aluminum option if they have one available.
Great review man! Like you said, love the versatility that this tent offers! Was thinking of going with ZPacks Duplex or Durston X Mid Pro2, but love what this tent has to offer! How do you think it would hold up for 2 people for a hike on the JMT?
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. think it would hold up great on the JMT for two people. May be a bit cozy inside as most 2p tents are. . Just get a ground sheet and be careful on where you set it up avoiding rocks and sharp things. I’ve had no issues with this tent.
Love my new double rainbow li. I’m thinking of changing out the stuff sack for the hyperlite small pod as you show in the video. Has that worked well for you? Is the small pod big enough? Thanks for the great video

Awesome thanks for the suggestion I’ll have to try that
Great idea! Do you just extend the trekking poles and jam it in the apex, then tie a cordage around the handle to guy it out?

This was great!! Would love to see a sleeping pad review and more tent reviews in the future especially seeing how great your jacket reviews are! 😊

Solo hiked the JMT with this tent, but large enough to car camp with my wife. Such a great, versatile tent.
Awesome! How was the durability for u after the JMT?

Thanks! Love to check out and some Durston tents sometime. Heard good things
Tarptent and Dan Durston way above Zpacks on Tent Quality and Pricing

@@BackcountryRenegade Looks like Hyperlite sells these pods by Liter. Which pod (Liter Size) would be good for Tarptent Double Rainbow Li?
That was super helpful!!! 🙏🏼
what is the size of that hyperlite pod? (that link is broken) thx :) Great channel and tent review btw
thank you. It is the 9L pod. I updated the link
Can you please tell me what series of hyperlite pod did you get, 2400/3400 series or 4400 series? Thanks!
It is the 2400/3400 in a small for this tent
@@BackcountryRenegade Thank you so much for your review. I purchased the tent and the pod!😊
Yes it would be if available in CAMO
but these Tent Makers in the USA do all have a issue with that Colour Pattern
That tent is worth more than my first car
If you ever want to sell this, let me know.
Lol.
Best tent , love mine
