    Out of the Dark has a twist that you will either love or hate. I thought it was silly but kind of cool at the same time. There are sequels co-written with Chris Kennedy.
    I saw Footfall by Niven and Pournelle on the shelf. I read that shortly after it came out. Might revisit it soon.

      Yes that's what I hear! I'm up for that particular combination. Footfall is a lot of fun, although like you I haven't read it for decades. Thanks for watching 👀!

    I've just added Ken Macloud to my TBR list, excited to pick something by him up soon.
    Generation shop sounds really interesting!

    Hi Jon. Just watching you pore through your bookshelves I detect no apparent pattern to your arrangement. Do you have a system?
    As for the tbr book pile. Who the eff are these people ? I think that ably illustrates the difference between a stick-in-the-mud like me and a modernist like yourself.

      Good lord man, have you been living under a rock? 😀 as to the shelf chaos, my vintage shelves are alphabetical, but the rest is more by author in random order, or size, or both, or nothing at all! Thanks for watching 👀.

    Yay!!! I am sooo glad u will read generation ship!! I also saw u have several jasper fforde- have u read shades of grey?
    I liked fractal noise. It was similar to other book.. will b a nice book for this month.
    I am also thinking about out of dark myself….
    Gotta ask about the hutchinson books- europe in autumn. Whad u think?

      Hiya, the Fractured Europe books are great, really enjoyed them. 5th one is the weakest. I have it in mind to do an overview video on the series at some point. They are very European in their setting and sensibilities, the US doesnt get much of a look in, although i can tell you Texas is an independent republic! 🤠 actually, having said all that, the main character in the 5th book is a Texan. I've not read any Fforde yet so I'll be interested to see how i get on. Looking forward to the Mammay book, thanks again! 💙🚀👽📚🎬

    Oh my! There's a Judas lurking in your selection for April, methinks. Good luck with JFF. Or, DNF as I call him.

      Jasper Fforde? I'm interested to see how I get on with him. If there's too much trying to be funny, it may well not be my cup of tea. I like the premise of this one, so we shall see. Thanks for watching 👀!

    You don't need to read Raft to read the other books in Xeelee sequence. They are all standalone.
    You should have picked up Cowboy Angels by Paul Mcauley. It's brilliant action packed parallel worlds sf.
    Bloom is great, read it, as well as Collapsium.

    I recently picked up Early Riser. I haven't opened it yet. My first Fforde was The Constant Rabbit and I enjoyed it so I don't know why I haven't stepped into Early Riser.
    Are all your weekly updates spoiler free? keen to know your thoughts if you get to it before I do but I wouldn't want to be met with spoilers. Thanks for the vid, keep up the good work!

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  5 місяців тому

      Hi, i do try to make them spoiler free yes, not always 100% successfully. I give some notion about the plot but usually only what's on the back of the book and maybe something from the early chapter or two, but i try stick to what i liked or didn't. I think. I've got several of Fforde's books, this'll be my first one. Thanks for watching 👀!

    Souds like amazing picks this next month. If I find the time, I just might borrow from this next month's list. Currently finishing edits up on book 2, and finishing the rough for book 3... A good story never dies as they say. I hope your reading is fun, adventurous and keeps you wildly entertained. Always a joy to see these updates.

    You gave me a bad case of shelf-envy. I don't know if you've already answered this, but are you generally more a hard sf reader or do you go for the softer kind? Do you change seasonally? I'm asking b/c you seem not really to care. I'm just curious. Thanks for sharing, Scavenger.

      @SciFiScavenger  6 місяців тому +1

      I don't mind a bit of hard sf from time to time, i did a physics degree back in the day. Sometimes i quite like it. But sometimes i want to be entertained! This month i fancied taking it easy, nothing too challenging. Thanks for watching 👀 !

    I usually pick the books I’m gonna read for a year in advance and never complete it because my moods change over such a long period. I like your method better. I’m gonna do it by month. Time to be dangerous 😂😂 great stuff as always!

    Normally, vintage SF is my normal port of call; but, I've opted for a palate cleansing month of my own in April. I'm taking part in a "Spring into Adventure" reading booktuber challenge...and have chosen a supernatural short story by James H Schmitz: "The Ties of Earth", H Rider Haggard's "She", and Agatha Christie Mallowan's "Come, Tell Me How You Live: an archeological memoir" - and interspersed amongst *those* , I've started re-reading David Eddings's Belgariad series. So...a busy month. 😏

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  6 місяців тому +1

      I have a huge soft spot for the Belgariad, i devoured those when i was a youngun. I got rid of mine, been busy replacing them in the same livery. I'm missing the first two. Thanks for watching 👀!

    Jon- First, I am halfway through Emma Newman's "Planetfall," per your video recommendation, and I am enjoying it. Thank you. Second, I've probably asked this before, but where did you get the Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets t-shirt?
    Third- My current (subject to mood changes and/or new purchases) SF TRP consists of Hao Jingfang's "Jumpnauts," "Ten Planets" by Yuri Herrera, Frank Herbert's "The Dragon in the Sea," and Ray Nayler's "Tusks of Extinction."
    Again, thanks for the stellar content.

    Why pass over In Fury Born and Contact? While Contact seems to be a hard science fiction book, true to Sagan's philosophy of making science accessible to laypeople, it's a fast and mostly enjoyable read...if you geek out on radio astronomy. 🙄🙄. And of course Weber is good for a thrilling story of revenge, and massive body counts...😳

      Seriously, I just got notification of a Triple Points day for Kindle right now, so I'm thinking of completing some series, that are currently partially bought. Because of my OCD, I like reading the entire series in one go, particularly if I've just bought them. I just finished Phule's Company purchases last night, so I was reading book 1 earlier. 🙄. Amazing how us bibliophiles ALL have little rituals...😉

    'Bear Head' is good, but I didn't think it was as emotionally powerful as 'Dogs of War', still worth a read though, I think you'll enjoy it. I'm MCing a bookshop event with Adrian Tchaikovsky next week as it happens- the new book is out now and it's very handsome, with great decorated endpapers, but I'll be hanging onto my advance paperback proof....and I have to read the new Lauren Beukes before then, as she's around too for that night. Ken Macleod, always a good choice, hosted him for an event back in 2017, great guy. Wish I could be as decisive when selecting my reads- I never stick to any reading plan....
