Replacing Stamkos and Sergachev with Guentzel and McDonagh for millions more doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but Geekie could be the X factor. I think they have too many older players to extend the window much, but if he can provide 40 points then 50 then 60 for entry level money, it helps them.

I'm actually giving it to both : Tampa needs some rejuvenation if they want to stay a contending team and while Sergachev is still on the younger side, they got 2 even younger guys and, as you said, they freed some cap space to either keep Stamkos or sign younger UFAs; and Utah shows they're serious about pushing for a playoff spot by getting arguably their #1 D-man

Serge can be really good with an actual good stay at home partner. He was always playing weird minutes in Tampa or playing with Cernak, who is notorious for dragging down anyone not named Ryan Mcdonagh. I think with a good top pairing RHD partner and PP time, Sergachev can show his quality.

@@Wayf4rer it feels like the kind trade, the ones involving a player with a lot of potential on a stacked team, where everybody wins : that player gets to finally come out of the shadow of the better players from his former team, be the top guy and reach his true potential; the team acquiring him potentially gets a franchise player and can build up around him; and the team letting him go can expect a good package in return

As a Bolts fan let me tell you Utah fans, you’re getting a great player. He will aggravate you sometimes, but he will make you jump off your seat screaming like nobody else. He’s a hype player and a loud player, the type of guy you can count on to change the momentum of a game. It doesn’t matter if it’s a regular season game or the cup clincher Serg always goes out there ready to bring the heat.
As for my personal thoughts, It’s painful to lose a guy like Sergachev who has been such a fan favorite player. However it frees up much needed space and I LOVE the new additions. As well Sergachev was a Bolts for two reasons, one was because we thought he’d be the next Hedman and he hasn’t developed into that in our time here, he may in a bigger role in Utah but it wasn’t gonna happen for us. Otherwise our main reason for having him was for his playoff performances, and given how poorly our last two runs have been it’s smart to shake things up(looking at you Toronto).
Moser completes a new left wing of Hedman, McDonagh, and Moser which could be scary(though now I kinda hope JBB doesn’t hold back on the defensive rebuild and trades Cernak has well). And Geeki, man we need this kid to turn into a star.
Imagine if in five years Geeki is a 40/50+ goal scorer with Point still in his prime and Kuch still being a great passer. That gives me goosebumps man. As well it might be good for when Stamkos is gone and we need the extra production, whether that be by retirement in four~five years or this year if he does indeed leave. Also I really wanna tell GEEK when he scores a goal.
Regardless, Thank you Mikhail Sergachev for being one of the best Bolts ever.

I will miss seeing Geekie’s giant stick knobs. Larger diameter even than any goalie I’ve ever seen. Bigger than baseball bat knobs. Fascinating.
As a default Utah fan for now, I think Tampa wins this trade.
I think Moser is a really good player and will be affordable if they can get him signed to some term length. Geekie has a tiny sample size in pro hockey but until proven otherwise, he’s still a very high prospect. Plus two picks.
I am not saying Sergachev has a terrible contract, but let’s face it, it *is* one of those contracts where, in the last year or two, you might find yourself in a position to have to fork over even more picks to a rebuilding team to get rid of it as we’ve already seen a lot of this offseason.
I think Utah had a strong, relatively young, relatively balanced defensive core, and they just blew it up for the sake of a “#1 defenseman”. I get it but if you can get 6 young guys and everyone is good enough to be a second pair guy, all vying to earn #1 minutes, to me that’s better than a “number one” and a vulnerable third pair. With very few exceptions.

Bolt fan here. In retrospect...after letting Stammer go...JBB has done a fine job. A LOT of people here in Tampa are KILLING him for the Stammer fiasco BUT...Sergy wasn't the best defensive defenseman. We got younger (Moser). We got younger with a better 5v5 player (Guentzel). We got younger with a guy that'll make our talent pool so much deeper (Geekie). The Bolts needed to get younger and free up cap space. JBB did that without compromising the quality of the NHL team. I hate that Stammer won't finish his career here but he'll go into the HoF as a Bolt and his number will be retired here. Hell...Gretzky didn't finish his career in EDM either. It's a business. JBB made a great BUSINESS move.

They don't talk about how Gretzky left the Oilers. Ever. At all. It's like, not a thing, in Edmonton. At all. Nobody resents Pocklington. At all.
Everybody accepted it because was BUSINESS and it was great for all.

Honestly i think this is the best offer the Bolts could get for Mikhail, especially since we didnt have to retain a cent of his salary. That was a overpay at the time he was signed, so getting solid players in return is just a bonus

Just throwing that in too. Last year they drafted two Russians in the first. Having Sergachev will also help with that when they come over. And Simashev will absolutely be in need of some tutoring from a NHL vet like Sergachev.

Moser is still getting better while Sergachev is a slight upgrade over the current play of Moser. Getting Geekie on top of that, who has crazy upside, with a pick is ridiculous. Tampa robbed Utah.
Think of the line combos and interchangeability of this young forward core.
Keller, Schmaltz, Maccelli, Cooley, Crouse, Guenther, But, Doan, and Geekie.
This is the start of some bad moves over the next few years for Utah.

Not even close an absolute win for Tampa Bay. Save 9 million a year get a young defense man that is just as good as sergachev Probably actually better defensively. On top of that getting an Amazing offensive prospect that is 6 foot 4 and had 90 points in 50 games. Plus 2 draft picks. We did real good, Miguel sergachev is worth about 6 million a year tops.

  • @CamPopplestone

Tampa wins easily in my opinion. I think Sergachev is a good player. But I also think he's one of, if not the most overrated defenseman in the entire NHL, especially at his contract. Moser is a solid young guy who is getting better, and will probably give them just fine play, plus getting a strong young forward prospect which they desperately need, it's just a huge W for Tampa

    • @GWh135
      @GWh135 3 місяці тому

Sergachev is definitely not overrated but he does struggle with turnovers on occasion, but it makes perfect sense to move him out. He eats away cap space when we could be injecting youth whilst also keeping Stamkos. This is a good trade for both teams
