Thank you 😊! I am glad you mentioned not needing a bucket to plant tomatoes in. I was going to use my buckets, but I will use the bigger floral pots that I have now and save my buckets for other plants.
This is Genius!!! I'm starting my tomatoes indoors now, I can't wait to do this. Last year we had a rain storm and it knocked one of my tomatoe plant down, I was pretty bummed by I took a stem and put in in a glass of water and rooted it, I planted that sucker and I had so many tomatoes and a lot long into the season.
So smart to take that broken plant and regrow into a wonderful plant that gave you tons of tomatoes. You will like this way to stake if you try it 😊 thanks ❤
You give the best 'how to' videos, thanks Robbie. It's starting to warm up here and I'm getting excited to start the tomato plants. This video really helped.
Love this and I’m gonna do it! I always use 5 gallon buckets and at the end of the season, my pots are always full of roots. I can’t imagine using a smaller pot(I have a very long season- South Louisiana).
@Robbie and Gary Gardening Easy yes! I was watching one of your older videos. I have watched lots and lots. I am ready for spring. Just rewatched seed starting with tulle.
@@Debbie-Keller that’s funny. I pulled some lettuce out of one of those tulle seeds starting containers today and re-planted them. It still works fantastic.
Your awesome Robbie. I'm new to gardening, and have been watching your videos. Love your method of gardening on a budget with limited space. Thank you for sharing!
I'm pray the Lord bless's you AS MUCH AS YOU HAVE BLESSED US with your wisdom that gives us ideas (I would of not thought 🤔 of) 🤣so many light bulb moments with every video..
Hello Robbie and Gary and kids and hummingbirds, as I watched your video it brought back memories to me when we always had flat tires on our wheelbarrow. So my hubby thought of a great idea 🤠 he took off the tires and added irrigation tubing works like a charm now. We can have tons of snow here in Pennsylvania and the wheelbarrow will still go through it and it doesn't get stuck like it did with the tires... It's a great project and the irrigation tubing is dirt cheaper than tires lol... Thank you for your video have a great day
Nice one, Robbie! Learning how to trellis goes a long way in growing more food. So many things can be grown vertically. That's a nice trellis...strong too.👍 Thanks for the knowledge on tomatoes. I'm a better gardener since I started watching you and Gary! I love using masking tape...especially as another hand when I need it.😃 Wishing you loads of tomatoes and broccoli for Miss Kitty.💕
Sometimes something sounds simple enough, but it can be a real confidence and competence builder to see how to do it demonstrated. Thanks again. (Can we get Gary to do more how to build videos? and also introduction to power tools.) I've been growing F1 patio tomatoes. They're 2 to 4 ounce tomatoes. They taste more like tomatoes than cherry tomatoes. Garden Gem is smaller like determinate but grow until frost (semi-determinate) and yield 2 ounce tomatoes, and supposed to grow well in the Southern heat. Am planning to grow Homestead tomatoes which only grow 4 feet tall but are semi-determinate, and also do well in the south's heat and humidity.
Made a 6ft by 2ft raised bed out of fence pickets 3 high. Never used it last year but this year got some peppers and actually filled the bed. I made a mistake on placing cherry tomatoes too close to beefsteak tomatoes and found out tomatoes like their space so i moved the young beefsteak tomato plant into a 5 gallon bucket and am trying to figure the best way to support it. I work at Lowe's and we had our bonnies 3 for $10 so I got some basil, 3 spicy pepper plants and 3 bell pepper plants along with my 2 tomato plants. My whole bed is filled with pepper plants with the tomato plant but my little babies are starting to grow and i want to make sure they're well supported so i am trying to make sure I do the most I can to yield as much vegetables as a 1st timer. I went with peppers because i heard they're some of the easiest to grow and not require a lot of space.
Love your video's!! I have learned so much! I can't wait to start my garden! It'll be awhile though, I'm in southern WV and we'll be getting cold again I'm afraid for another month. I can watch all your plants grow in the meantime!! Have a great week! 😀
The larger ones can grow in the right sized containers as well. If you will be 'canning' tomatoes you might want to grow Romas. You can grow _determinate_ type tomatoes so that they grow and ripen at the same time, then all you need to do is to PROTECT the plants (buckets) until you can harvest them. I grew 'Determinate' Romas and 'Indeterminate' Cherry Tomato STARTS in 5 gallon buckets and it worked fine for me. I liked her 'trellising' idea.
Lived in So Cal my whole life and never have a damn about gardening but now in NW TN i want to plant peppers with dramatically different weather. Haha. Right now I made a plow point shelter with one of my camping tarps to protect my 2ft x 6ft raised bed . It's working well but with adding stakes and the plants eventually growing taller I need to find an alternative shelter to protect them
hi robbie 🤗 another great video. i have indeterminate tomato seeds and grow them in 5gal buckets, 15gal pots and raised beds. i have a 3gal pot, so maybe that'll be an experiment this year. tfs
Awesome 👏💡👏 This is so perfect!!! And as I watch your video you're giving me so many informations ❣️ I didn't know that tomatoes don't like big pots! And I remember telling us about the suckers last year and I didn't prune my tomatoes and yes, I had so many tomatoes just from one plant. And I still have some of them cause I freeze them and when I'm cooking I put some cherry tomatoes in... delicious! I have a volunteer cherry tomato from last year that's blooming flowers!! This year I already have two plants of big tomatoes. But all my other tomatoes are cheery. They grow so well! Thank you so much for the super idea Robbie ❣️ You maje my gardening life so easy 😍🌟🌻
I'd like to try some dwarfs for fun. I have mine in 5 and 10 gallon nursery pots. You reminding us that we can go smaller is appreciated cause I'm running out of big pots. Just means I need more totes, right? 😁 I got to talk my bf out of his tubing, 😈😏😁
Wow I was about to use kitchen twine that was 100% cotton that i use for tying up meats etc because i thought natural was best. I have a bunch of construction mason line for using with batter boards to mark out an area and i think ill go with that. I also have fishing tarred bank line that's very strong but the mason line is cheap enough and plentiful. Im at the stage now I need to setup some support for my tomatoes AND peppers so at work (Lowes) i got a 6 pack of 4ft bamboo sticks to support my peppers and tomatoes but i am thinking with my beefsteaks in a bucket i may need to look at stronger support system
I use the brown garden twine to create trellises for cucumbers, bean teepees, etc. It lasts for a year, and then I can chop it up and compost it. I'm sure it would work just as well for this as synthetic yarn - and be easier on the planet since the plan is to throw the synthetic away.
Its going to run out of water alot quicker. So more watering, esp in hot climates. Smaller pots will topple over when a tall tomato plant and a strong gust of wind combine, so secure the pot/plant as best as u can on a windy day. Pros: very light to lift around.
@Robbie and Gary Gardening Easy I am not an expert on tomatoes and these past three years I found chocolate cherry tomatoes that I found at Home Depot do very well for me in southern California here. It is almost produced a year around and is very delicious

Hey Robbie thank you so much. I had decided to not grow tomatoes this time because they grow too wild and my space is small. I am in awe 💓💓💓

I always heard a tomato plant needs at least a 5 gallon bucket! This year, I’m gonna plant one in a 3 gallon bucket to see what it does.
I do it much small, but in the compost in place method I do😊

Tomato stakes are expensive af, what inch/length are you using?
I got a bunch.of tomato seeds. How do I know if they r a small variety or large?
You will have to read the package, or ask who gave them to you, what they are. Take care

Fast 😊❤
I plant my tomatoes in a fabric pot. Can I do like you did to treillis my tomatoes??
you could sew the sticks to the fabric with a needle and thread to make them stable.
Personally I wouldn't use that nice premier yarn to tie tomatoes would probably use jute or nylon cord
Do you put soil acidifyer in your blueberry container without adversely affecting the strawberries? Thanks.
I grow strawberries and blueberries separate
Black zip ties last longest.
Yes, the ones with color do
How do u trellis cucumbers
I will be doing it like this, this year, and as I go in the season, I will have videos on cucumbers, Thanks
Hi Robbie, I like everyone enjoy tomatoes😋but horn worms are unbearable!😫
Get free pots if you go to new homes being built-after they put in the landscaping they just throw away the pots - ask them for pots!😊
I give up the big tomato type. Waiting toooo long
Small and medium are perfect, I so agree 😊

Why not just tie the yarn with a bow or two for each line? That way you can untie the line at the end of the season and reuse it next year.
You can do it the way it works best for you 😊
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy My way is the best way.

You could use the leftovers from your pot covers made from leggings (which was a great idea, by the way).
or use wood/bamboo and jute string, instead of all this plastic waste? Zip ties in my carrots? no thanks
