Absolutely on the increase use of Aussie Natives. Especially the Bottlebrush as you have in this clip. When the brushes break out during the flowering seasons, you have a bit of a job to find much better. Moved into a government house in another life and had a 'massive' wild Bottlebrush in the front yard. Kicked it in the guts withthe chain saw and gave it the hardest arse kicking I dared. Only a couple of months later I had an immaculate tree covered in red flowers. The original idea was something along the lines of cut it up and dig out the rootball completely. Make sure you keep us all in the loop on this one. Very keen to see how she turns out. Cheers mate, keep going as you are and keep the videos coming.
Hey Sam, tree's looking good! The previous carving has given it a lot of character. I agree with you on the need to promote natives! I like how you removed those last 3 larger branches, sacrificing short term for a better long term look! Nice work! Mark
Hi mate. Yeah I hope to one day but they really struggle and I have to learn how to look after them and keep the alive after the dig. Bottlebrush is very hardy though 😁
Hi mate. Yeah will make it better in the long run. I think as I get more ramification they will reduce. It is one of the bigger, faster growing varieties though. Cheers for the watch and comment mate.
Awesomesauce Sam. I'm just getting into bonsai and I've always thought of getting into natives but can't really find much stuff on youtube, or anywhere that looks at Aussie weather and plants. I'll have to stay tuned and look out for an Aussie native playlist. Good stuff mate. Keep em coming.
0:23 Aussie Bonsai Bloke is wondering where he left his sunglasses haha. 👍 I had a native Malalueca but it was always a struggle to bend the branches without them snapping.
Cheers mate. Yeah I think we should at least do some more of the ones we know can make good trees. I'm going to have a go at some more in the coming years 😁
When u did those big cut backs i think it really made the tree its going to look awesome. I did some big cut backs on mine today i took your advice i want heaps of different branches coming from all different directions i dont like the plain long straight branches either. Very nice tree, awesome vid.
Cheers mate. Thanks for the feedback. Great to hear you took the step of going backwards to go forward mate. It will make a better tree for you in the long run. Cheers for the watch and comment mate 😁
@@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke im also trying to germinate some bottle brush seeds but no luck yet. Any advice? Have u ever tried to germinate bottlebrush seeds?
@@twistedelementalaaronhartm7004 hi mate na never tried. I do believe they grow really well from cuttings in late summer to Early Autumn. I'd give that a go also if you have access to a tree 😁😉
Hi mate I'd have to suggest the bottle brush. Very hardy for our trees. Ramifies and back buds easily. So yeh bottlebrush. Lillypilly can also be good. 😁.

Pretty drastic trimming there, but it made the tree more beautiful. Can those leaves get any smaller, Sam?

Hey Sam, Victorian here. Wondering what native you would recommend for a first time bonsai grower?
