I think that's what makes Guts such an awesome character for me (even if I'm only on part 136 of the manga). He doesn't care who or what's in front of him. He just fights and struggles through it.

I feel like an under-rated feat of guts' is when after fighting the kushan army, fighting alongside zodd to take out the emperor, being struck by lightning, falling hundreds of feet and taking so much damage the berserker armour DEACTIVATED, he got back up despite being utterly exhausted just to talk smack to a different army of demons for no other reason than to prove a point

RIP Kentaro Miura The mangaka who worked on this masterpiece for 30 years. It's a tragedy, but to take a brief moment to step back, Berserk was always about understanding life is unfair and growing through the pains to thrive in spite of the injustice.

Also to anyone confused as to why Nightmare's Soul Wave didn't kill Guts immediately by devouring his soul and haven't read Berserk. I should tell you that those who have read Berserk will know the rather terrifying reason why; Griffith, upon becoming Femto, claimed ownership of Guts' soul with the Brand of Sacrifice, so Griffith owns Guts' soul, and nobody else can take it or sacrifice it in any sort of way. Meaning that Griffith was one of the major factors in why Guts didn't die.
I like how at the start when they cross blades the first couple times before guts overpowers him for the first bit nightmare has to look at his sword for a second like"you good? You working? Cause this shouldn't be happening.."

Actually, it said that it bought him plenty of time. That’s not saying he needed it. The berserker armor is made to hold the body together when in severe condition. Meanwhile, you already see Guts leap through fire earlier in the fight. A couple seconds of being on fire does not change anything about the outcome.

You can see this when he reflects on his own metal arm while remembering Vargas' story. Guts does not hate the weak, he just hates the things that have been done to him and reframes them as weakness so that he can overcome them with strength. If you want to see someone who steps on the weak, look at Griffith.
At the start he hates what he sees as weak, including relying on others, but as the story goes on and Guts looses more and more to the armour, he begins to trust others absolutely, notably trusting Schierke to guard Casca and Serpico to watch his back.

This video introduce me into Berserk and the creator, Kentaro Miura. Later, I learned others like Hidetaka Miyazaki were heavily influence by his work. Without Kentaro Miura, we wouldn't have Dark Souls, etc. He was 54 and this is heartbreaking. Kentaro Miura is a man of legend and he'll be missed.

Patrik guts stood under a waterfall full of logs on purpose. It was a dumb idea and he survived because of luck. then he demanded a rematch and destroyed all the logs!
4 months late but that’s mostly how using fighting game sprites can harm immersion, as they just flip the character the other way. I’d he was facing to the right of the screen he’d look perfectly normal. I don’t remember who it is but there’s a street fighter character with one arm that seemingly switches depending on which way he turns.
I noticed that even the movies and anime switched that up. Mostly because when I broke my hand from a fight I was relating myself to guts thinking "damn at least the guy only lost his left hand"

He basically fell out of his mothers corpse and was found by mercineries who taught him basically to fight till death, besides the early times of the band of the hawk, his life is largely downhill from the start.
Totally. Through pure stats, Gut’s should have been instantly killed by Souledge. Hell, through just stats, any of the demons Guts faces on a daily basis should kill him. But Guts just keeps on going.
Focusing on the nature of the characters and not their stats creates inaccurate results. Otherwise I guess Master Chief can beat Guts because his narrative is that his luck allows him to overcome the odds not matter how unfairly stacked against him they are.

Like small groups of people who struggle against far superior military powers to outlast or wear them down because they're fighting for something they truly believe in.

I love how guts is the only character to begin battle as SOON as the metalic "CHRING!" sound effect begins; he's already moving before the announcer is done saying "FIGHT!" My sensei taught us to use the GO signals that way. In DnD, they call it "Improved Initiative." IRL, it's crucial. Guts is also the only one still attacking after "K.O." just to be sure. Best warrior character ever.
Fun fact: you can actually power through exhaustion for a short period of time, as long as you want something bad enough. Especially when you have strong mental willpower.

Even without Soul Calibur Seigfried, is a 6-A character, which is *TWO ENTIRE TIERS* higher than even Guts in Berserker Armor, which only manages to be 8-A. Base Guts is 9-A to 9-B. The Soul Calibur universe just has way higher power scaling than the Guts verse does. Literally nothing in Guts is stonger than City Block-tier, and the average SC character (as in, the playable characters from the game) is around 6-C at least, and Algol is in the 5-B to 4-A range.

We know why you’re here. We wish it was under better circumstances, but there’s no denying that the creator behind Berserk would be happy to know just how many fans he has. That and probably fair to say this was one of the better death battles between the fight, animation, and Cinder making a guest appearance before he joined KI’s second season.

Not that far off. Except the things that usually get in his way are town guards, his worlds equivalent to a crusader army, a mixture of undead (including zombies, skeletons and wraiths), other worldly creatures and war demons.
First time I saw Guts, I thought he was impressive. Then I read some Berserk and learned he was even better than I thought. Then I played the game. I hope I never get on his bad side nowadays.
This might be my favorite death battle ever. Watching this really brings back nostalgia for me, back when I first discovered death battles and started watching them all the time. Not to mention this is the whole reason I started reading berserk.

Funnily enough though “He’s just built different” works for Guts. Because of the brand on him, he’s constantly partially in the spirit world where thoughts can affect reality. In the case of Guts, simply thinking he’s strong can give him a combat boost.
Even pre-eclipse guts is OP. Guts was in the league of a nation's best fighters when he was 14, before the eclipse at around age 20 he was completely unrivalled. Post-eclipse he's killing beings which have transcended humanity, then he gets the berserker armour and straight up murders the ancient god of the sea. In the souls world he would be completely unapproachable. He could turn Asteroth into paste with the side of his sword.
Actually, in Golden - Age Arc (the guy with rhino armor) is actually above Guts / at the same level. His sword broke as well as he were much more tired than the other guy. If Zodd wouldn't have sent is sword Guts would have been killed.

Sam S While on the topic, Dragon's Dogma's developer also really liked Berserk, hence why you can see parallels in the story and along with a promotion deal for the first movie, is why you can find Guts and Griffith's Golden Age Arc equipment in the game and post eclipse Guts and Casca are presets for character models
Usama Zahid Kratos also has the Blade of Olympus. Maybe he could use that to combat Guts' Dragonslayer if any of his Blades of Chaos, Athena, or Exile seem to prove futile against that iron-slabbed sword

It's funny because Guts really didn't even need his berserker armor in this fight, Screw Attack just needed to show it at least once.

Actually, it said that it bought him plenty of time. That’s not saying he needed it. The berserker armor is made to hold the body together when in severe condition. Meanwhile, you already see Guts leap through fire earlier in the fight. A couple seconds of being on fire does not change anything about the outcome.

You can see this when he reflects on his own metal arm while remembering Vargas' story. Guts does not hate the weak, he just hates the things that have been done to him and reframes them as weakness so that he can overcome them with strength. If you want to see someone who steps on the weak, look at Griffith.
At the start he hates what he sees as weak, including relying on others, but as the story goes on and Guts looses more and more to the armour, he begins to trust others absolutely, notably trusting Schierke to guard Casca and Serpico to watch his back.

This video introduce me into Berserk and the creator, Kentaro Miura. Later, I learned others like Hidetaka Miyazaki were heavily influence by his work. Without Kentaro Miura, we wouldn't have Dark Souls, etc. He was 54 and this is heartbreaking. Kentaro Miura is a man of legend and he'll be missed.

I love how guts is the only character to begin battle as SOON as the metalic "CHRING!" sound effect begins; he's already moving before the announcer is done saying "FIGHT!" My sensei taught us to use the GO signals that way. In DnD, they call it "Improved Initiative." IRL, it's crucial. Guts is also the only one still attacking after "K.O." just to be sure. Best warrior character ever.

Even without Soul Calibur Seigfried, is a 6-A character, which is *TWO ENTIRE TIERS* higher than even Guts in Berserker Armor, which only manages to be 8-A. Base Guts is 9-A to 9-B.
The Soul Calibur universe just has way higher power scaling than the Guts verse does. Literally nothing in Guts is stonger than City Block-tier, and the average SC character (as in, the playable characters from the game) is around 6-C at least, and Algol is in the 5-B to 4-A range.

Datte! Still my favorite manga of all time, the anime ended at a crucial point in the story and I didn't really care for that, but the OVA's are doing an excellent job, I can't get enough of this series as a whole

That and probably fair to say this was one of the better death battles between the fight, animation, and Cinder making a guest appearance before he joined KI’s second season.

This might be my favorite death battle ever. Watching this really brings back nostalgia for me, back when I first discovered death battles and started watching them all the time. Not to mention this is the whole reason I started reading berserk.

@@kamih3nt4169no, he died a legend. You have to understand that he was very protective of berserk, only he and his best friend were allowed to know the full story and only miura drew and worked on it.
Awesome as Guts is, I’ve always wondered how exactly he manages to carry around a sword twice his weight (230 pounds with the sword at over 400), let alone swing it with such strength in the first place?

Funnily enough though “He’s just built different” works for Guts. Because of the brand on him, he’s constantly partially in the spirit world where thoughts can affect reality. In the case of Guts, simply thinking he’s strong can give him a combat boost.
I wonder if that explains the more recent chapters, where his heart wavers and he feels a despair so profound he can’t even hold the blade
Even pre-eclipse guts is OP. Guts was in the league of a nation's best fighters when he was 14, before the eclipse at around age 20 he was completely unrivalled. Post-eclipse he's killing beings which have transcended humanity, then he gets the berserker armour and straight up murders the ancient god of the sea.
In the souls world he would be completely unapproachable. He could turn Asteroth into paste with the side of his sword.

Actually, in Golden - Age Arc (the guy with rhino armor) is actually above Guts / at the same level. His sword broke as well as he were much more tired than the other guy. If Zodd wouldn't have sent is sword Guts would have been killed.
