Incredible that these locomotives are still in service today (2024) on the Dublin to Cork route with a push/pull dummy van.

I was at that airshow in London and watched the news channel when the plane took off. It was amazing to see the tail of the Antonov along Oxford street more than 6 kilometres away!

amazing. These locomotives are still parked in Connolly station in Dublin. Never knew a Russian space program plane flew them to Ireland!

Only the first loco (201) came by plane, and locos 202-234 came by ship. I know they say "10 locos" in the video but it was actually 34. Locos 208 & 209 owned NI Railways and Irish Rail own the other 32.
Sadly loco 201 along with nine others (202-205 and 210-214) went into storage at only 15 years old after Irish Rail bought those 22000 Class DMU's and are being cannibalised for parts for the operational locos. Ten 15 year old locos you could say are "scrapped" and all 18 of the 071 Class locos which are 45 years old are still operating.
And another bit of sad news... the Russians destroyed the Antonov 225 at Kyiv Airport a few weeks ago. The big sister of the plane in this video.

It was amazing to watch them load the plane and watch it take off, this actual Antonov 124 may have been destroyed by Russia in the beginning of their invasion of Ukraine

@@gotaplay Yes, Antonov AN-124-100 registration number UR-82009 was damaged in Ukraine along with the only flyable AN-225 Myria reg. number UR-82060 in existence that was destroyed. At 2:48 of this video, the registration number is visible being located behind the wing on the fuselage, but I can't read it.

You mean Soviet Space Program Antonov was a Soviet company.

I was lucky enough to get hired by GM to assist their cameraman from Chicago for this shoot. Even more amazing, we got to crawl around the cargo bay and cockpit and take photos. I remember how painful it was to kneel on the rivets that lined the titanium floor panels. The whole operation took over 24 hours as I recall and the aircraft landed near the end of the airshow that summer. It pulled a very steep and dangerous turn over the crowd but everyone loved it!

I think it was '91. I was at that airshow and they also had an F117 with armed guards around it. A long time ago, which is why i can't recall whether they let us walk through it.

"The first of 10 Irish Rail locomotives."? It was actually 34 locomotives. 201 came by plane and the other 33 came by ship.
Sadly loco 201 along with nine others (202-205 and 210-214) went into storage at only 15 years old after Irish Rail replaced nearly the whole InterCity passenger fleet with brand new DMU's and are now being cannibalised for parts for the operational locos. And all 18 of the 071 Class locos (also built by GM) which are 45 years old are still operating.
And another bit of sad news... the Russians destroyed the Antonov 225 at Kyiv Airport a few weeks ago. The big sister of the plane in this video which was the world's biggest plane.

thanks for the update! I did manage to have the GM shooter take pics of me in the cockpit and I'll never forget the titanium floor and rivets which are very painful to kneel on...v sad about the 225, yeah
