It seems that not many people know Floor is a High Sensitive Person (her own statement). High sensitivity, also called HSP, appears to occur in about 20% of the population. It is a unique quality (not an illness or condition)! Highly sensitive people have the ability to process sensory stimuli in a different and unique way. Often they are intuitive, highly sensitive to the atmosphere and are able to read and estimate people. Floor uses this fully to her advantage in her singing and performing, better yet, she made an art form out if it (my personal believe). This explains partly why Floor is so overwhelmingly power full in her performances. Her enormous talent, incredible voice, warm and humble personality, flawless technique and hard work is amplified by her highly developed sensitive side...(if you ask me)... and of course she is fueled by the enthusiasm of the Nightwish fans... Floor just brings everything to another level, unreachable for most singers... she really connects you to the songs... and that is what makes the musical masterpieces from Tuomas so much better. Together with her “brothers” from Nightwish they are just one of the best bands around... they make musical art...

Thankyou for explaining a scientific phenomenon that it seems very few people have. It can takes years to realise what it is, and to come to accept that you're different. It's an unspoken, invisible language that allows you to empathize and feel what another person is feeling as tho it was you. It allows you to see well beyond now, and always the mind is processing hundreds of bits of information constantly as you process your surroundings and the people in it. It allows you to see through people like a sheet of glass, and assess situations in a matter of seconds. You have to manage it, or it can be overwhelming. It's hard to explain, but I can understand how Floor is, because it's part of who you are, so is a natural extension and integration of expression. In essence it is a state of being. In academic circles it's related to Phenomenolgy. Hope that makes some sense :) Greetings from New Zealand :)

Hey there Mr & Mrs Coach. The voice is back and on form again. Mrs Coach is right, Floor does have a 'presence' on stage, I put on a Nightwish video when I am doing something on my computer but I have to stop and watch it and delay what I was doing. Thans for sharing your reaction to a song suggesting that while looking up at the stars may seem futile, it is actually a powerful path to understanding the reality of life and finding strength to face its difficulties. We are the stargazers on the planet Earth (the mother) riding through space accompanied by the Moon (the child).

Check out their cover of High Hopes (cover of PinK Floyd's song) - that one is absolute masterpiece! Performed live during End Of An Era tour. You will love it.
And if you want to check out a new artist, then I highly recommend you Devin Townsend. The best way to start with Dev is him performing song Kingdom (live at EMGtv). Mr. Coatch will be very pleased and something tells me that Mrs. Coatch won't be grumpy over it neither. 😏

Floor's Power is undeniable. And you are correct, it is from Tarja Era !
And this concert was very special for Floor ( Her Parents where there ❤).
The meaning of the song appears to be a poetic comparison between the Earth drifting through space and the way an ancient mariners would use the stars for navigation, and the music adds the proper epic drama of the process. Clarifying some of the metaphors, the "third vagrant" is the Earth as it is the third planet from the Sun, the "mother and child" are the Earth and Moon, "hydrogen lakes" describes both the fact that water is partially hydrogen, and that the space in our solar system is mostly hydrogen, "ambrosial merry-go-round" refers to the forever orbiting of the planet.

While the vocals may be jarring to hear in that classical/operatic manner, it would be jarring (to Nightwish fans) to hear them sung in any other style.

Marko's bass lines through out this song are amazing. That guy is one fine bass player considering he's trained in classical guitar. Hey Coach, wait until you see Empuu and Tuomas have a shred off between lead guitar and keyboard in "Shudder Before the Beautiful". $100 says you just shake your head in disbelief. You guys should do Planet Hell (Official Live) with Anette just to get another Anette song in. There aren't a lot high sound quality Anette vids out there but this is one of them and its fantastic. It was originally a Tarja era song and its been done by Floor a lot but Anette's version is by far my favorite. You will see a totally different side of Anette than you saw in Slow, Love, Slow as this is a heavy song where she really gets to belt. It also heavily features Marko. ua-cam.com/video/z_SlXqJjIO4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=NuclearBlastRecords

Enjoying following your Nightwish Journey. This was definitely a Tarja song originally. Floor kept to the original style here. Poet and the Pendulum is primarily the one where background is helpful. I think another song performance that is a good lead in to it and the mind of Tuomas is Dead Boys Poem. That is also a Tarja era song, but Floor makes that one more of her own style, and it is one of my favorites, and has my favorite solo from Emppu. Keep exploring Nightwish.

A very young Tuomas wrote this song and it was released as the first song on the Oceanborn album in 1998. The lyrics are interesting, showing that he was at that age already thinking about the universe, earth, evolution and mankind. And that was probably the reason it was added to the setlist of this tour: the subject fits the last 2 albums of the band: the universe, earth, evolution and us.
Tragedienne of heavens is the earth (as it is full of tragedies, evolution being the biggest non stop tragedy)
Watching the eyes of the night (the stars)
Sailing the virgin oceans (earth sailing through empty space)
A Planetride for Mother and Child (earth and moon)
Tuomas knows something about the history of astronomy: "Following the pages of Almagest"
(Wikipedia :-) The Almagest is a 2nd-century Greek-language mathematical and astronomical treatise on the apparent motions of the stars and planetary paths, written by Claudius Ptolemy (AD 100 - 170). One of the most influential scientific texts in history.
BTW The Wembley 2015 version of this song is almost not reacted to, but as good as this one (And Marko whistling...)

Correct, it is a Tarja era song, from the 2nd album, Oceanborn, in 1998. It hadn't been played since before Tarja parted with NW in 2005. The operatic vocals aren't in Anette's wheelhouse, so it was one of the songs that got put away. They brought it back, not only because Floor can sing this style, but it fit in with the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album themes of science and reason. This Tampere 2015 show was on the EFMB tour.
Coach, since you mentioned Tuomas' keyboards, check out a song with a keyboard solo, "The Siren" from 2005 Helsinki (End of an Era DVD), Tarja and Marko on vocals, And of course, "Phantom of the Opera" that Mrs. Coach mentioned, from that same 2005 concert.

This is the first Nightwish song I ever listened to, way back in 1999… It was great with Tarja 25 years ago, but Floor takes it to a whole new dimension! It was off their set list for years because Annette didn’t have the operatic skill that the song requires, but that is not an issue with Floor. In fact, Floor’s performance of this song is my favorite 😊

Enjoyed your reaction. Fun fact. Floor asked Tuomas if they could include Sleeping Sun in the setlist for the tour. It is also an old Tarja era song that was commissioned by their then German label to be released with 3 other songs on Aug 2, 1999 to coincide with the total solar eclipse that occurred on Aug 11. Tuomas wasn't happy about having to write the song, especially since it the label wanted it to be no more than 3 minutes (It was 4 minutes long. Tuomas's small rebellion) but it was a favorite of Floor's since it is such a beautiful ballad. Tuomas agreed to add it to the setlist if he could add Stargazers since it is one of his favorites and thus it was added to the setlist. You should definitely react to Sleeping Sun. One of the songs where I love both Tarja and Floor's performance. Highly recommend a double reaction. There is a great live version with Tarja from the End of an Era concert but I have to admit my favorite is the 2005 music video with Tarja striding across medieval battlefield like a Valkyrie. ua-cam.com/video/_yMCSDbwaCo/v-deo.htmlsi=ztaf39SCIT0naKN4. For Floor either the live performance from Tampere or from Masters of Rock (which is my favorite).
Definitely understand the backstory of Poet and the Pendulum. It will definitely emotionally hit a lot harder if you know where Tuomas was personally at. I highly recommend reading the lyrical analysis by the artist Annika Hausen. It is a fantastic and illuminating dive into the song. I would provide a link but YT deletes my comment every time I do. Just google her name and poet and it will get you there. If you feel it might give to much away then just read the open letters by the band and Tarja and perhaps some commentary on other reactions as well as interviews with Tuomas. The most important point is that the song was Tuomas's way of dealing with the deep depression he experienced when Nightwish's fans turned on him after the band fired Tarja.

If you go for the poet and the pendulum I would like to recommend the live performance with the lyrics and names of the chapters. It gives a bit more context to the song. The Video is called The Poet And The Pendulum - Nightwish. HQ with lyrics. Live @ Wembley 2016. Let the name not fool you. The concert is the one from 2015 that everyone likes to watch. I'm not sure you have done quite enough styles to get to Poet ???
I would like to see some more of the Wembley concert before you get to Poet which is my top NW song. Wembley 2015 is the version to do
Stargazers is reminiscent of Sacrament of Wilderness and a couple of others, though this is one where Floor uses a more truly operatic tone than most - in many cases what people call operatic is not really using the resonators in the way true opera does but in this one Floor does.
P.S. I should mention that the album containing this was released before Tarja says she felt she knew what she was doing with her voice.

It makes sense that the keyboards are so well done in Nightwish songs. The composition is most often done by Tuomas on his keyboard(s), and then everything else is layered on top. So the keyboards aren't added or injected, they are the foundation.
