  • In this video I am making a setup for my Copperhead Pit Vipers. While doing so I figured this would be a good time to go over some care for this species as well. So tell me what you think of the video down in the comments and tell me if I should add anything to the next video!

Great presentation Josue. Are these the coppers you have to separate to feed?

Great care video. I’m considering one of these, and/or a Florida Pigmy rattlesnake. Both won’t likely kill you, but in my opinion are both beautiful snakes. I’d LOVE to have a Gaboon Viper, but id rather not die, or loss a limb at the very least, if I should happen to make a mistake. The Gaboon is probably the most beautiful snake I’ll never own!!! 😂😂

Quick tip. I spray paint my screen tops with high temperature grill paint, or header paint when I’m using them with a heat lamp. I’ve had them rust, and disintegrate from the heat, so the heat paint helps them last longer.

If I may make a suggestion. The cage for venomous, especially a pair is a bit too busy and can increase chances of envenomation. In keeping professionally, it's generally a better option for the keeper to house them singularly, as to be able to give 100 percent of attention to the snake in front of you and not split your concentration on more than one snake. Great video otherwise. Stay safe.

Well this was a breeding pair of snakes. That's the main reason for keeping them together. But I will say otherwise I would be keeping them separate as well!

While NO, I repeat NO venomous snake is a good pet, probably the least bad is the copperhead(in the US...in europe they have vipera berus which is reported to have pretty weak venom yet still a front fanged snake)).
Copperheads have weaker venom than any other front fanged snake in North America(note I didn't say weak venom), and the venom itself, while nothing to mess around with, is very rarely fatal, with some bites not even requiring anti venin, just methods to treat the symptoms.
They are also very widespread, so if anti venin is needed, good chance your hospital will have it(if you live in the midwest, south, or east). They are hardy, very pretty, and stay a very managable size.
