  • Over 40 years ago Yoshihiro Tatsumi expanded the horizons for storytelling in comics by using the visual language of manga to tell gritty, literary stories about the private lives of everyday people. Adrian Tomine, who has helped bring Tatsumis work to American readers-and whose graphic novel Shortcomings was hailed as pitchperfect and daring in The New York Times-will speak with Tatsumi about the evolution of comics in Japan, the U.S., and around the world.

14 years and less than 100 likes. It’s a darn shame. Graphic novels are so underrated and such a great art form. Thank you for this interview!

Adrian Tomine is my hero. Everything that he's done bleeds of such depth and brutal honesty. An amazingly under appreciated graphic novelist. =)

Vaguely reminds me of the "Lost in Translation" scene of the beer commercial.
Both wonderful artists. Both vastly unappreciated.

One thing i didn't like about this interview is how at some point the interviewer and the translator evaded mr Tatsumi and began chatting like if he wasn't even there. I do realize the language barrier is a big problem and it makes it harder to communicate but at least they could have tried to make it look more like it's questioning mr Tatsumi and not talking about him.
Also the laughting and a majority of what he has said was also pretty rude. Poor man couldn't even defend himself because he had to rely on the translator

I couldn't help but giggle at how high school unprofessional the setup is. But joking aside, thanks so much for uploading this interview.
