Proxmox team knows a lot of companies will be ditching VMware in the near future, so why not add support to migrate those VMs flawlessly, you guys are amazing...
@kodemasterx Please be a bit more specific. Which flaws does the current VMware migration have? It would help if you specify, what you consider missing or even faulty.
Thank you for the update, looks wonderful! I hope we will see in the future an easier way to enable IOMMU and PCIe passthrough fully in GUI, without having to open CLI. Cheers
Absolutely! I heard passthrough and my mind went directly to the IOMMU and PCIe and thought F&**)&$ FINALLY, but then was let down as it's LXC passthrough. Not sure why this can't be added as a simple check box with a check/balance on whether or not the commands are valid with the hardware (Intel/AMD/NVIDIA).
Awesome!!! And these normal spoken updates are so MUCH better than that scripted semi AI voice from the past... The import ESXi is pretty cool. Would be incredibly awesome if there was an ability from the UI to import individual VMware VM's from their VMDK files.
smbmounts are a ioload/iodelay problem. tried it manually in different setups and went for alternatives like nfs, iscsi or a pbs pretty soon. even if that needed invest in addditional hardware.
wow thanks for great job making proxmox a great wm. The only thing I can complain about is some polish on the UI, otherwise I think proxmox will overtake esxi
Yeah....I'll have to see how well and/or how poorly that works because right now, when I edit my .conf file, I am passing through multiple devices from /dev over to my LXC containers. So we'll see how that goes.
Thanks for the update! The unattended install is a great addition. Would also appreciate a focus on security; making sure Proxmox passes the various benchmarks (like CIS server 2 profile). An important issue is root access being enabled over SSH for clustering functionality. That's blocking for most enterprises.
Please everyone upvote this comment! I believe this i s major feature missing in Proxmox that should be resolved ASAP. Should not need to use clinto import qcow or ova.
OVA/OVF import is already being worked on, there are patches being reviewed on the pve-devel mailing list, so in a few weeks to months that should be done.
William is up for a new adventure! He will oversee the very important role as coffee grinder for the Proxmox developers! www.lelit.com/product/william-pl72-p/
Nice. Good work. I like all the small improvements in UI. Also like finally switching to nftables. There are still some changes that require manual modifications to the vm config file, that do popup sometimes. But are pretty rare. For example recently we wanted to setup unique and deterministic wwn / uuid / serial numbers (by default proxmox and qemu does not set them or set them to zeros) to some disk and nvme devices to the guest, and right now, the UI does not support that. But with config, it was easy to pass proper params to qemu. Then only missing part is better support for IPv6-only networks. The installer does not support IPv6 at all (which is worse than Debian installer). It also does not support more than one DNS server or DNS over IPv6. (While debian installer does) We do not care about LXC. While it is a lightway and nice. Docker would be a bit more welcome, but also not really needed. One can always spin up some other OS in the VM, and run docker or kubernetes there. I prefer my VM platform to be as simple as possible, otherwise it is easy to misconfiguration or mess things (like memory limits).
Lxc + podman (no docker please) would be a killer combo, but it would also complicate things too much. I agree that a VM with nested virtualization running podman is the best approach for now, with a panel like rancher or portainer it becomes easy to manage if needed
Amazing work as always big thanks. What would be an excellent addition is to be able to P2V or V2V from remote sites. VMware converter was great for this task.
Import from ESXi is a good step forward, but this only works if you have an entirely "new" physical host. There needs to be a wizard to mount an existing VMFS datastore LOCAL to the host and convert/import the VM's that way (you can already do this manually).
Please add a feature to create folder so it will easy to group VMs & Containers and also to see CPU, HDD/SSD temperatures in web interface. Thanks for update❤
I could do with a tweak to Proxmox Backup server so that when I run it as a VM on my Truenas server, it can be more easily backed up by a regular cloud sync task
@@wojtek-33 I have PBS and there is no option to backup host. I'm not IT person, not even in long shot. It is my hobby that I start learning last year. I wan't learn Ansible, but I don't think, that I can right now.
@@wojtek-33 I will say this though -- the ability for TrueNAS where you can just download your entire system config, into a single file or whatever, and then when you need to redeploy your system, you can just restore the config, would be an INCREDIBLE feature to have for Proxmox, especially, if you have a more complex and more complicated multi-node cluster that you're trying to back up.
Please add some fuctionality for incremental backups and VM mirroring using ZFS storage snapshots and send/reciv commands. ZFS level operations will be much faster than whole disks scans during PBS backups etc.
You have that. After creating the unprivileged LXC container, go to options, and double click features, and then click on the checkbox for NFS. For privileged containers, the process might be more involved (potentially), but you don't need anything special. If you want to have system-wide access to a NFS share, mount the NFS share on the Proxmox host itself, and then pass the mount point through to the LXC container using the syntax: mp0: /path/to/mount/point,mp=/path/inside/container Put that into your .conf and there you go. Very simple. Then your container doesn't even need to have nfs-common installed.
My suggestion to all who will update from older proxmox is to - first shut down all vms. It seems like something anyone half experienced would do anyway, but I failed to do that, and out of three proxmox machines, last one failed update and is not booting any more. Hi there, I have been using proxmox without any issues for years and love it. But on the recent upgrade my USB Ethernet adapters are no longer working. I did a fresh install and the USB Ethernet adapters were working but when I update proxmox they no longer work. Then I did a fresh install, then upgraded and tried to connect them with the Linux bridge as usual and there is an error. Why is this happening? Thanks
No idea if this is relevant but I saw someone mention on reddit there was an issue like yours caused by a change of device names vs what's in a config file.
The section title screens are a bit too fast, in fact the whole video felt a bit too rushed.
