  • This video instructs how to help a baby learn to transition from kneeling to 1/2 kneeling to standing with help. My name is Amy Sturkey, PT. I am a pediatric physical therapist in the United States. I'd like to give some ideas to families who have a baby with Microcephaly due to the Zika virus. This video teaches a simple technique of how to help your baby learn to move from sitting to standing with your help. I taped this video specifically for families with a child with Microcephaly; however, this technique could be used with any child with a developmental delay who is not good at standing. This video is only appropriate for children who already showing some sitting and standing skills. This is not appropriate for a much weaker child than the one pictured in this video. I hope you find this idea useful and simple to follow through.
My website is www.pediatricPTexercises.com. My Facebook page is Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises. Please note I am unable to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated.

It is very important that you work very hard with your child now. The brain can change and grow a lot now. Here is my playlist for children with low tone. They are in order of difficulty. Some people tell me that they go thru the lists to find the right level to start with for their child. This playlist goes in more detail that my other playlists. I hope you find something helpful

My contact information is amysturkey@gmail.com. That is listed in the description for the video. You may contact me, but please remember it is unethical for me to provide treatment recommendations for a child that I have not personally evaluated. I am only able to give generic suggestions, but not ones that are specific to any particular child.

The best thing you can do is to find a local pediatric physical therapist who can help you customize a program to your child. Here is my link to a young boy with cerebral palsy who has difficulty with balance as well. I am unsure of the difficulty level of your child.

And here is the one for children with low tone. I recommend a local pediatric PT if you have access to one.

I am so sorry. I see my original response to you never posted. I am hoping you no longer need my response. I believe that in many children that walking and standing have to become the habit. I think practice walking and standing is crucial. I recommend my families walk the child as much as possible from room to room in the home and out in the community. Of course, this always depends on the child. But mostly I believe walking is a mind set that must be developed.
