Idk if this would be helpful or not but I was taught something so basic that it truly changed my life. I used to go, go, go and sit down and try to finish everything at once. But then I was taught to do things in sections of time, make a list of everything you need to do that day and assign it a certain amount of time for each task....this includes taking breaks. I couldn't believe how much more I accomplished in a day and didn't feel bogged down and stressed out. I also heard a wise person say " if there's something you really want in your life, make a grocery list for it. We always get what's on the grocery list, right?
I think we can get depressed by ruminating on the things we can't change or control, it can make us feel ungrounded. So, start organizing what you want by making a list. Start small. Listen to motivational videos right here on UA-cam, stay positive, you can do this! One day at a time, just focus on what you plan for today! Don't think about yesterday, it's gone. Tomorrow isn't here yet. Just today 🥰

This reminds me of what my father told me. My suicidal thoughts faded away a long time ago when I realized that I’m a shaved ape on blue-green dust speck in the middle of nowhere. Never felt depressed at all since then-it made me feel pretty happy.
When I was suicidally depressed, I realized that I was taking life WAY TOO SERIOUSLY back then. This advice might not help for everyone but it helped me out.
Seriously people, think of the cute sneeze your dog does. The sound of your neighbor’s wind chimes. Smell of morning coffee. The favorite meal your mom/dad made. Think of those things. Look up at the sky on a clear night outside the city, it’s beautiful-awesome. Your insignificance isn’t a reason to not live, it’s a reason TO live. The world is so big and awesome. It’s better to say no than spend your time doing unfulfilling/unnecessary yes’s.

In German, there is a concept of indecision, where you are concerned of the possible outcomes so much, that you do nothing. It is mostly used in the context of chess, where the rules state that you **must** make a move, but doing so will lead to your defeat. The term is Zugzwang. I kept thinking about this as you spoke. Sometimes it is best to just sit and do nothing. It. Can. Wait.

This morning I woke up feeling sad. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and sometimes its too much for me to bear it. I remember thinking that I didn’t want to be a human today. So, I took the day off from work and stayed in bed for a bit. I kept thinking that it this day, or me taking time off work wouldn’t matter in 3 years, so why would I feel bad about it? Not even limited to the activities you mentioned. It doesn't necessarily have to be "calming" either (I'm saying it for any activity but also referring back to the music example (obviously you can also learn an instrument, create or mix music)). The spices of life is what makes it so enjoyable (or at least exciting) as they say. Good comment.

Bless your soul Haiying, those were words I really needed to hear right now, and I thank you for that.
I just came back from the doctor and she just gave me a whole week off because of burnout, and despite it affecting my happiness and physical health long term now, I thought of not taking the days at all so I wouldn’t cause any trouble at work.
In the end, even though it felt really hard, I did take the sick leave but I felt awful because of it at first. I know this probably must sound silly to most people, but I really struggled to let go and prioritize myself for once.
Then I saw your video and it really inspired me. It put my mind at ease that I made the right decision, and that it’s not me at fault, but the system for overworking me. I deserve better, I deserve healing.
I know I live in a privileged country to be able to take time off like this, and I’m very much aware and grateful for that.

I totally totally understand you and I do the same as you. We have personal days off. Over the years, I have not taken them, because I don't want to prepare the sub plan, and I don't want students ask why there is a substitute not you. Anyway, I weigh the benefit of day off vs. preparing for day off. I choose not to take day off. Whatever is good, we just need to take it lightly and reasonably. Right?

      @Azyra4 3 роки тому +1

@@yanghaiying I absolutely relate to you, I also studied to become a teacher and it can be a struggle, especially because you feel like students depend on you and making a sub plan is also a lot of effort.
But it is also good to take some personal days if you really need it. Something I often think about is the following thought exercise:
Whatever decision I’m making right now, how will I remember it in 1 year? How will I remember it in 5 years? What about a decade?
It helps put things in perspective and stops us from worrying too much.
I’m sure your students won’t remember those days off if you were to take them, but they will remember the fun lessons they had with you :)

I needed to hear this today. I went through a period years ago where things went really bad and I worked hard to learn to balance life better to avoid similar problems in the future. I came to many of the same conclusions as you, including what you say: it can wait. Not everything has to be done immediately and I am not a bad person if everything is not taken care of at once. I tell people this all the time so that they can learn from my horrible experiences the lessons I wished I knew then. But today was especially hard and I was falling back into bad habits. This video has helped me anchor myself a little. So thank you for making and sharing it. It sounds like it has touched a lot of other people too. The only negative thing I will say though is that when you are suicidal it is often something you can't just "think positive" through or think of family and decide not to do. Sometimes those things actually make you more likely to carry through because you will beat yourself up for even having the impulse in the first place and your despair will grow. You will feel guilty that the impulse is even occurring. We don't want to cause our loved ones pain; in those moments though the pain gets to the point of being almost unbearable. People need compassion in those moments more than anything. Maybe there are people who are not thinking of others and how it will make them feel, but there are plenty of people who are already thinking of their loved ones and still the despair is too great. Thinking about them more will only make it worse at that point. People need help. I apologize for such a long comment. I loved this video, but I want to make sure that people who have never contemplated suicide know that it is not something you can just positively think your way though a lot of the time. One of the biggest stigma's on people who commit suicide is that they were being selfish (didn't they think of the people who love them?). Of course they thought of the people who loved them. It is helpful for people who have never experienced this to imagine what it must be like to feel so much despair that even thinking of those you love and the pain you will cause them is not enough to stave away the despair that is driving you to madness or to stay your hand. It is not selfish and it is not an easy fix. It is tragic.

I've been suicidal all my life. I felt and still feel like there's no point. I don't really have friends and I continue to be blinded and lost from all of life and happiness. God has been good and my family has always continued to be there for me, but my mental state continues to ignore all the good. Those words feeling burnt out is true thats really the only way I can describe how I feel 24/7. I'm thankful for this video and your words it actually is soothing hiring your voice it as if you are guiding me to know I will be okay. I lost my friend Mia in 2018 to suicide we were 15 and she is going to be 17 this year in May. I miss her alot and it's really hard to know that she is gone. She deserved better in this world and was beyond this world I miss her so much. Knowing I can't talk or hear her really kills me, but I know she is okay and is in good hands. To anyone battling depression and suicidal thoughts I can promise you it is okay and life is brighter as long as you wait. I thank God for this video, everyone around me, I thank God for Mia, I Thank God for my family, and I thank God for you.

Thank you for this. This will help someone with their mental health, and if you're struggling in life right now, it will be better. You just have to be patient. If you're thinking about taking your life, remember the people around you. Remember people will grief your death, remember that it will get better eventually. If you need help ask a close family member or ask your closest friends for help. Remember that you are not alone, there's more than 3 billion people on this Earth. Remember that people will stick on your side no matter what, don't get upset over the littlest things. Think on the positive side, the bright side. Don't focus on the negative stuff. Don't remember the horrible times someone hurt you, remember the positive side. Keep in mind if you need help a therapist, a hotline, a relative, a close one will be able to help you. Think about life. If you have a bad day, don't try to think about it. Take refreshing walks outside. When it rains you wouldn't think about how gloomy it looks, you would think how relaxing it sounds. When someone is being rude to you, remember that they have probably not experienced what you're feeling, so please, don't let others harm you. Let others HEAL you. Death is scary, and you wouldn't want to experience it. Remember, if you die people will grief your death. You would not want to see people cry, crying about you. Even if it's hard, remember you are not weak. You can't control how you feel. If people call you weak or a crybaby, remember this. Everyone can't control their emotions forever, so please. You can take it all out by writing notes, you can take it all out by telling someone how you feel, but don't take it out on your peers and yourself.

I don’t know how to thank you enough for this video. It is so timely. I just gave birth to a baby and initially I was hoping to go back to work soon after it, but the baby keeps sleeping on my and nursing all day, and even though I love her, I keep beating myself up for not working, for being “lazy,” for being tired all the time. And them today I saw your video and felt better for the first time. Thank you!

As a mother myself, the best gift we can give to our children is to be with them, especially their baby years. We only have 3 years to hold them. In no time, they are going to college. We can always go back to work or restart our career, with more compassion, understanding and maturity. You are doing a great favor to your child, your family and society.

I was hit directly with the humble factor. Growing up I used to mow lawns for people and it helped solidify the perfection of society and the little bubble I grew up in along with visiting the neighbors and dress up all the time. I went to college. I was president of the international honors society, was an honors scholar, made the dean's list every year, had great grades, and thought I was going to have this wonderful history degree and then I thought I was going to make it as a nursing student. Then it hit me. I failed the nursing entrance exam and tried out for a certified nurses' aide program at my local hospital. I then failed that. It put me back years and I applied for a patient transporter job at our local hospital instead where we push patients in beds all the time around and are ordered how to do things. There is no way to move up in this position and you have to grit your teeth sometimes when frustrated. I now have to wait at least a few more years before I can try again for nursing school. But, this experience has really made me humble. No longer do I focus on perfection and the little things and am a stuck-up smart ass like I felt I was in college. I have sunken down to the bedrock of a full-time-minimum wage-unprofessional non-career life but I am now carrying a smile where I go. Staff love me and love seeing my smile and my jokes with the patients and making them and the staff laugh. Of course, I am not at all where I wanted to be, definitely I will have a long road before I can become a nurse or double major in nursing and history, but I am taking each day slowly and trying to savor it. There are of course bumps in the road where I wish I was in a professional job and didn't make stupid choices or mistakes that stopped me from becoming a nursing student, but I wonder if I had become a nursing student if I would have had time to date.
After I had failed the nursing entrance exam I tried for the CNA program as mentioned. In that time I met the most wonderful person whom we were able to save each other from years of depression and loneliness. This loved one I have been in a relationship with and helped change their life as they have done the same for me. We are getting engaged this May 5th after being together for two years and slowly taking "each day" one at a time. We have learned things about life and made mistakes which we are glad we made. We know that one day we each will reach our goal of a solid professional job. Right now we both have minimum wage jobs, but we have roofs over our heads, clothes on our backs, and food in our bellies. We are blessed and I think we have to be thankful for our own mistakes in life.

I'm so glad you came up in my recommendations. Your words really touch on topics we all deal with--the stress and the feeling that we need to move fast in order to accomplish things, and how that can harm us.
One thing that has always helped me when I'm feeling low is something I read online a few years ago. If you're feeling like you can't make it another day, think of something you're looking forward to. Is it a meal? A meeting with friends? A new movie coming out in a few weeks? How about you stick around so you can do that? It's very simple, and it makes people stop a moment and think.
