As an 82 year old bloke, I am training/trying to survive for however many extra years that I can on earth and to maintain a basic level of health and fitness while I do that. My mind still thinks like a young bloke, but my aging body argues with my brain every day, so it is a balance between desire and realistic challenges and activities.
That’s great. As long as you’re still putting in the work that you’re fully capable is what matters. I am 40 and my mind and body wrestle with one another. Not in my 20’s anymore but my mind is. Get some! 💪🏼
I’m a 58 year old woman, caring for my mom who has dementia, I would have to stand my ground, love your fitness tips as I will do whatever I can to defend our property, if fire, I have a bug out bag for the car.
At 70 years old with a few health and injury issues I'm not in the best of shape but I can improve a lot just by doing one step at a time. In the past in the Marines 1975 - '77, I would run distance but I did calisthenics before and after the run. Sometimes with the light pack. A little bit of heavy weights in the gym and swim 1 mile at least 3 times a week. This helped me stay in shape enough to survive. I noticed that it was a good idea to train for everything instead just one scenario.
Great video. I live in Urban Honolulu so carrying my long PewPew is verboten. I have been rucking with 5lb bags of flour to add weight to my ruck (10lbs for the pew, 5 lbs for ammo) and running the same route now for 2 years. I mix it up by changing to lighter packs and “weighted vests” made by velocity systems. I may be slow but I am happy with my progress
We subscribe to the philosophy that Team guys need to be physically ready to handle any task and therefore it is imperative for us to have an elite level of fitness over a broad base. We are obviously not Olympic Weightlifters, Sprinters, Marathon runners or World class mountain climbers. However, we do need to be able to function at a slightly less elite level in each of these disciplines (i.e. throw a lot of weight around, sprint to HLZ’s, and operate in extreme environments.) so this video is a GREAT lesson and it’s highly encouraged to find or create a program to expand your ability in a broad base of strength, endurance and power. Loved this.
Went on my first hike/ruck (30lb) in SoCal, MT San Gorgonio. We made it to about 10,500ft, turned back as we ran out light but my hips/calves were smoking the next day. Physical fitness is now my main priority
I consider myself lucky to have friends in the outdoor gear building and testing arena. In the last few years, I have picked out 2 essential pieces of gear, a Hill People Gear Fullsize chest kit bag and a Mystery Ranch 50 liter pack.
I also think an over looked piece of gear is glasses. Especially where you were running, it’s easy to get poked in the eye, which takes you out of the game for sure. I have darker glasses for daytime and switch those with my clear after dark.
A foreign enemy may never invade, at least in the typical way. We've granted citizenship and permanent visas to millions who don't wish to assimilate. The attacks will come from within our neighborhoods and cities. Either way, physical, mental, and spiritual fitness is going to be important.

Jason, how would you and your family respond to a wind-driven fast moving approaching wildfire that will 99 pct surely take out your homestead in a few hours? Are there multiple escape routes?
I don't wish this on anyone but just like in LA no one probably foresaw losing everything they had accumulated in their lives in a few hours from a fire ; or in Western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene . A person or his family , or entire communities could suddenly find themselves homeless and living [ on patrol ] out of a backpack , everywhere around the world this is happening with greater frequency in quite dire circumstances . It might not be an enemy invasion , but it could be survival of the fittest ; although all the illegal gang members and military aged men who snuk into America are very much like an insurrectionist invasion .

I'm a 69yo vet and my body is turning against me lol but I have a 15yo special needs son who is 100% dependent on me. I still cut split and move wood because that's our heat source and has been for past 5 years. I don't have time to go out and train like most of these UA-camrs do. But I have over a decade of experience being in the worst places at the worst times and having to survive it. I'm not in best of shape by any means but I have the mental health experience and have seen up close how people can get and it's bad. I can do what I need to see that my son and I survive and in time can thrive if/when needed. So don't sell Yourselves Short, the more you learn and keep Yourselves moving you can stand a chance. Just never say or Think, I Can't. Because you lost right then and there, you just beat yourself. Good luck and remember you don't have to be 1st just have to be there when it over. Good luck to all!!
In any group half the people are "Above Average" and the other half are "Below Average". I have found that in everything in life, always strive to be in Above Average half and things work out OK, you don't have to be the best, just Above Average. The Below Average half fall behind, especially in the key areas of Physical, Financial, & Intellectual. Below Average half have lots of excuses & blame for why things didn't work out.
I believe that we miss the truth about when is the game day. It’s today, it was yesterday, it is every day that we are alive and kicking. The game is going to be boring because hard work for long hours is the way it is going to happen for most of us.
I don't see a hostile foreign nation invading or even our own occupied govt getting kinetic to the point where we're doing full kit patrols. But there's a non-zero chance so it's nice to be able to do so.
Why can’t fitness be its own goal? I don’t need to be motivated by some unrealistic fear of SHTF. I train because fitness feels better than non-fitness, because every part of my body works better when i’m fit, and because I enjoy the challenge.
