    Omg 😭😭😭 i have been struggling trying to figure out what i want to do with my life. I actually left college because i was wasting my time away. Watching your video really encouraged me. It’s not about money it’s about making an impact on people.

      I'm so so glad I was able to encourage you! Yes the core of this field really is to help those who have no voice in society! Trust me, social workers are wayyty underpaid and it does become stressful when we are reminded to pay rent, taxes, etc. However!! I can't say my job isnt so important!! best of luck with everything!✨

    My wife is an LMSW Social Worker here in Brooklyn. I used to worry about her when she did home visits (she's a 110 lbs Chinese woman so yeah), but now she works at a school so it's less nerve racking. You guys are severely under appreciated and underpaid.

    I’m going into indigenous social work. I have a semester left in my high school career and couldn’t quiet pin point exactly what I want to be. I just knew I wanted to help people. I think social work is what I want to go into for the exact reason of what it’s about. Helping people get back up again in society and trying to change their lives for the better ❤️

    Thank you so much for this! I’ve felt like this for so long now. I’ve been studying sociology for 4 years, currently in the fifth year in my first year of undergrad! I’ve been worrying about what I want to do for a few years now and I always neglected social work because I always assumed it was miserable office work where I focus on getting children away from families. Aha, negative stereotypes from my parents and the media I guess! But this video is so informative! Now I’m probably going to seriously consider it as a career! Thank you so much!!

    I'm about to finish my degree in tourism management thus year. Back then, I just really wanted to volunteer. This quarantined period made me a lot of thinking. I suddenly wanted to work for other people. My goal before was to work hard and earn a lot. But this quarantine made me realize that instead working for myself alone, why not choose a work that could make difference not just for myself but for others also. That's when I have this urge feeling to become a social worker. I somehow regret to know this course just now but I'm really decided to become one. I'm planning to enroll for this degree next academic year. I am willing to throw away my dreams of working in 5 star hotel and luxury cruise. I already told my mom not to expect anything that is related to money from me 😅 i am heading to the right path, right? Please cheer me up! Thank you for this video 💕

    Hey! So I found your channel thanks to Shane and I ended up watching a TON of your old videos as well lol. Anyways, justwanted to say that I'm planning on becoming a licensed family/marriage therapist because I really do enjoy helping people out and like you said in your videos, helping out others makes me happy as well. My best friend's parents are both that actually, so I know how long it'll take (12 years between college and an internship) and while it's going to take me A WHILE, I think I'm ready for the journey! Anyways lol sorry for kinda ranting, I just wanted to say that because of my interest in psychology and my plan to become a family/marriage therapist, I'm really interested in your videos overall, so thank you for making them, and keep up the amazing work!

Your video helped articulate some of the reasons I want to go into this field in a cohesive manner, so thank you! I took notes :)

    • @hi.yeonni
      @hi.yeonni  7 років тому +3

      Hi, Alex! Ah, I completely understand you! I felt the same way and it's the first time in my life where I've seen some clarity for my life purpose! BUT maybe I should have said this in the video but I'm still quite young, and I honestly believe we really don't know 100% what's gonna happen in our lives as we grow older! I'm kind of a planning freak so I just LOVE to plan and much of "where I see myself in the future" is where I would like to be but who the heck knows even haha. I applied to college as an art history major wanting to be a curator, I then changed to a political science major in my sophomore year thinking I would want to be a lawyer, and it was only in my senior year of college when I finally felt like I was pursuing something that I was passionate about and could see myself potentially pursuing in the future! So..... I'm saying who even knows! I think what's most important is we just keep asking ourselves, "what do I like? what do I not like? am i pursuing X because X is accepted by society? do I even want to do X? will it make me happy?" prioritize yourself when you see yourself in the future and work hard for it! the answer won't drop on our laps, but with every step to getting to know yourself more, the closer we'll figure out that "life purpose". and who even says we need to figure it out? is okay~ sometimes we gotta chill out a bit~ we're so hard on ourselves! haha good luck!

    • @hi.yeonni

      Hey there nic! I think that's a great focus! There's a great demand for social workers in rural areas, especially those working with the lgbtq population! Since you're still in highschool I'm assuming you're applying to colleges now? Some people get there bachelor's in social work (BSW) and then their masters (MSW) afterwards, but if you're set on becoming a social worker for sure I would recommend looking into accelerated programs! They can save you money and time to become a social worker! Let me know if you have any specific questions! Would love to help out :)

    • @nics9840

      hiyeonni, thank you I’m just not sure how much applies to Australia, we really don’t do college here we can go to university straight after high school.
      After doing research I think I am going to study community and family studies through TAFE for my first year of study (due to cost and being able to cut back on an extra year of university) before moving to a regional university and doing a Bachelors of social work there.
      I hope that makes sense, also I’ve only recently discovered your channel, and haven’t watched every video of yours so I apologise if you have addressed it but what do you do specifically in your field of social work?

    • @hi.yeonni
      @hi.yeonni  4 роки тому +1

      I think something that becomes evident in this field is that there are sooooo many titles for pretty much the same thing. I think it’s a case by case, agency by agency situation where sometimes community psych workers are the same as social workers but with slightly different job responsibilities. A lot of the times social workers end up working in community psych settings which pretty much means working in small non-profit agencies in the community, hope this was helpful!
