Darren is a full bloodied filipino but grew up in Canada. He went back to the Philippines at the age of 12 or 13 i think ( correct me if i'm wrong) to compete for "The voice teens" until then he stays there to continue his singing career.

Most of the original cast of Miss Saigon had connections to the Rep. And then there are pop singers like Lani Misalucha who had classical opera training to start.
