There was a bartender who would chip away at the ice like you did at the beginning, but would tell a story as he chipped it. Related it to coal and I think it was called the coal cracker or something like that. I just liked the story of it and he didn't get it completely to a sphere, but your video reminded me of him.
I have a different but very very similar clear ice sphere system I keep in the mini-fridge's freezer almost all the time. It's nice to be able top pull a sphere out whenever I want then just refill the thing for the next use. I used to do the same sort of home made solutions a lot of people do, but the system makes the results more consistent and less hassle which I like.

Agreed, the results are consistent for sure. A little less fun for me, but I’m still using this one pretty regularly
