What people don’t understand about blackjack is “playing by the book” is meant to be a strategy used for a long period of time to maximize profits and minimize losses. If you’re betting like all in, playing by the book might end up being a worse play like hitting 16 against a 7 or doubling an 11 against a 10 etc. all the close plays, you’re better off standing in one particular hand than hitting
hitting 16v7 is not close, you're better off standing 16v10 than to stand 16v7. Also, it's not recommended to double 11 against a 10 online since dealer doesn't check for blackjack and you lose double your bet.

No matter the circumstance, playing according to basic strategy will increase your EV(yes, variance is a thing, but you must remember you're also just as likely if not more likely to lose if you deviate from basic strategy).
