  • This is my review of the AKK Alpha 10W, an 80 channel, 5.8GHz video transmitter (VTX). I put this powerful VTX to the test in a challenging penetration test to evaluate its range, signal strength, and overall performance in bands and around those pesky trees. Watch as I go over its features and specifications, and push it to its limits to see if it can handle real-world obstacles. This review will give you a comprehensive look at how the AKK Alpha 10W stands up to the demands of extreme FPV flying.

    Thanks for another great test and review video Whirly Bloke. I always find your content interesting, informative, and entertaining. I've found those 10w VTX units intriguing even though they seem impractical due to size and power drain and heat etc...🤔. I think you're spot on with who they're designed for. Long range wing pilots would probably love these and even big, 10 inch plus quad pilots might benefit though size, weight, and power drain would limit distance. Overall, I don't have an application for these but I love to see the technology progress. Happy flying amigo 🫡 🍻.

      Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it's a good product, but it's only really useful for long range wing pilots.

      I got one for my 900mm wing. I would have it set up so I can change the power setting on my controller based on my need. And pretty much only use full power in scenarios when I need it to get that extra pen when I'm about to lose it. I currently use a rushfpv max solo at 2.5w max, and don't notice much drain difference with my 5000mah li ion batts

    great video... i've been eyeballing these, i'd love to see how a test like this does againt other systems like walksnail and dji, maybe go to a park with a bike! i get worse range and penetration with my 2.5w reaper then i do with my jhemcu and aocoda1.6w, vtxs for some reason, i just wish they had made it in more of a 30x30 mounted cube shape with a mmcx connector for something like a 5-7inch toothpicks with threaded holes in the to and bottom

    Very cool testing. I really enjoyed that. Part of me wonders, how much were both tests hindered by the lack of the type of airflow that you would get from a moving quad with props pushing fresh air over the Heat sinks. And I wonder if those differences would be respective of the results you achieved..
    Either way, this is kind of a curiosity for me. Ain't no way that's going on a fpv quad, and I have no need for that type of penetration, as I live on the prairies.. haha..
    Cheers, mate!

    • @WhirlyBloke
      @WhirlyBloke  2 місяці тому +2

      Thanks for the comments. Yep, no test is perfect and I don't think the lack of airflow makes much difference. It's not for anything less than a 7" quad and even that's questionable. It's definitely for long range wings if that's your thing.

    • @willpowerfpv3246
      @willpowerfpv3246 2 місяці тому +1

      No that's a good point. I keep having to remind myself that quite often the electronics are housed within a cavity in a wing, and so one would have to assume that they've accounted for that with the heat sink and fan. I appreciate the reply. Have a great weekend! 🤙🏻

    Amazing test! Although I wish the lower watt models were in a smaller form factor to fit inside 5 inch/ 6inch drones. All the Alpha models seem to be the same size and weight, which doesn't seem to make too much sense, so why not just buy the top model and switch power levels

    • @Inertia888
      @Inertia888 Місяць тому

      I have not found myself aiming for long distance, but I enjoy making videos with nature, sunsets & sunrises, geologic features… It can make for a nice shot sometimes, to fly over a patch of dense canopy and drop in where the camera follows a slow river for a few seconds, and orientating myself to face the direction of the main focal point of the video, such a beautiful low-horizon deep color sunset, that cannot be seen, until I raise altitude, and slowly bring the beauty into focus as the thick canopy falls beneath the camera.

      As far as I understand it, a ham license is easy to get. Pay a fee and take on line test. Study material is online, and you could probably learn some good practices from it. I think you also need to transmit your call sign, maybe using the craft name on the OSD. But my guess is only few can be bothered.
