- The tapes of the Drifter are exactly the same as when you side with the Drifter, only difference is the dialogue and story mission.
Also, whenever you play Gambit, the Drifter calls you a snitch, so a nice little easter egg that shows The Drifter knows. - Ігри

If u choose one guardian to side with the Vanguard that is who Drifter is talking about when he says a Guardian 'just like you' snitch on him. Really clever Bungie. Ur Vanguard guardian is responsible for everything the Drifter guardian learns about
I don't think that's exactly the case. I don't remember 100% but. There are narrative previews for Gambit prime. A guardian named Joxer is this snitch drifter often talks about. I don't remember how the story goes all the way but to my memory he's the mole for gambit and tattles on drifter about Gambit and whatnot. Mynameisbyf made a video about it as well

For some reason that was the phrase that kept going through my head while I was trying decide to who to align with. The Vanguard have always seemed weak to me, they never take direct action unless its a last resort, or dismiss something that eventually becomes major threat sometime down the road. The Drifter, on the other hand, seems like the kind of guy who would green light an assassination on Ghaul before his forces could mobilize, or nuke a hive throne world to ensure its absolute destruction. None of this "wait and see" crap.
Its a bittersweet choice, but I felt like it was the best course of action if we are going to win.

Sadly I missed this season, too much trouble in my life to sort out at that point, but damn it is one of the best seasons for destiny´s lore lovers like me. Iwould´ve sided with the drifter, but the phrase "and a righteous fear of Ikora´s big-ass shotgun" is one of the best in all Destiny´s history.
Good job in making this videos and keep them coming, they are much better than Byf or Evade´s videos and A LOT more easy to follow and fun to watch.

Eh, you do you, but here’s the thing, drifters probably one of the oldest guardians out there, he’s seen every ounce of the origin system and beyond.
His faith in the light was tainted from the very beginning, he was constantly brought back to life only to die over and over again, and like said, the warlords and iron lords were at a war in which he wanted no apart of, but all that ended up happening was those people he helped got killed. And to make it clear about your choice, which the game doesn’t really make it clear, your not choosing the drifter over the vanguard, your choosing him over the asshole war cult, and by the end of his quest, he even says even Knows the risk your taking for defending him. He’s not evil or petty, he’s just a man who knows that the wall of hope the vanguard keeps using is crumbling every day, with nothing to fix it with.
This dialogue is exactly why we need a Rasputin faction eventually. I don't trust the traveller, but my pro-humanity views don't align with the Drifter's personality.
We're probably not going to be getting that faction anytime soon because Rasputin is either shut-down or destroyed as of the current season and Mars is getting added to the content vault/destroyed.
I agree. The Drifter has pretty much killed or caused the death of everyone who ever runs with him. Not very trustworthy. I also don't trust the Traveller either.
It's a real pain in my heart that I can't make every character in this game happy with my choice. Like, I don't wanna snitch on the Drifter and I don't want to betray (???) the vanguard. Why can't I make everyone happy?

Honestly I sided with the Vanguard for purely personal reasons. There is absolutely nothing the Drifter offers that I couldn’t earn in an arena where I don’t put other guardians, a finite resource mind you, in jeopardy. Where I might actually die. Because if a stray Truth rocket hits me as I’m transmatting my alt load out and my Ghost gets vaporized, I’m dead. Permanently. If the Drifter would stop being so god damn shady and let Shaxx in to regulate Gambit so no more Guardians would die their last deaths in his arenas, I might consider him an ally. But at this point he’s just using us to gain power from the Nine and considering he died so many times from starvation that he literally developed psychosis, I don’t think he’s physically capable of being a good guy again without serious help. He won’t even talk to his Ghost, much less his therapist. You can always trust a liar to lie. And he’s a liar thru and thru. At least the Vanguard wants to protect humanity. They might be failing but they’re doing what they think is right and they’re at half capacity. No hunter Vanguard to lead train and mentor their scouts and there’s not one in sight, the Speaker has been dead for nearly 2 years in universe and there’s no one to serve as the spiritual leader of the Guardians. And we as a faction are fragmenting. Traitors to Calus’ delights, Awoken Guardians returning to the Reef, hell even our Guardian went rogue to kill Uldren. The last thing we need right now is a nihilistic fear mongering snake taking even more Guardians to his side. We need a new Speaker. Zavala’s too small minded. Ikora is too brash. Caydes long gone. Osiris or St. 14 should return. We need someone to rally around that can inspire us to find our nuts again and take the fight to the darkness and the defense of humanity instead of pure power for powers sake.

Someone to rally around would certainly be in order, because the Vanguard would be more than happy just hiding behind the City walls until the Red Legion comes back, or someone worse. The kind of person that makes Oryx look like small potatoes by comparison. We survived the Red War because we did something unconventional, and that's precisely what Gambit is.
Did you know that Void Light used to be illegal? During the Dark Age? Hell, it wasn't so long ago that it became commonplace. The Vanguard feared Void Light because they didn't understand it; Gambit is no different. The Sky and the Deep are two sides of the same coin; ignoring one at the expense of the other is weakness.

Honestly after siding with the vanguard from the beginning of d1 and most of d2, when I was presented with the opportunity to choose, I chose drifter. Not because of anything like I don’t like the vanguard but after destroying the heart of the black garden, descending into the V.O.G, fighting and slaying Crota, capturing and killing Skolas, Dethroning the Taken King Oryx, and giving the iron lords their final deaths. Becoming the hero of the Red War, after In-game and real years of helping the vanguard through and through, I realized that The drifter has a point, the light uses us to save itself, it’s shown through lore and through our character’s, we are a tool for the light so that it may defend itself, and while I stand with saving humanity, I can’t help but feel limited to the burden of the vanguard. The death of Cayde-6 showed how easily light can be stripped away, and uldrens “parting” words; “The line between light and dark is so very thin. Do you know which side your on” when I saw my guardian hesitated I knew that even he didn’t know where he truly stood, so when I was presented with the offer to see the dark side, I took it, and with beyond light soon to release, I can’t wait to see where my choice takes me.
I felt like crying when he said "If you're planning to take a shot at me. You better not miss."
This quest made me not a fan of the Drifter as a person, although, as a character, he's pretty good. I may be a snitch, but at least I ain't a damn coward.
cry w he’s not a coward, he’s the only guardian who’s managed to desert the vanguard successfully due to his views on them and manage to survive and build small crews of other guardians that banded together and even Cayde-6 followed him for a while.

@@maplesyrup6529 He literally is running away from conflict and abandoning humanity, using his powers and knowledge for his own gain. That's the opposite of bravery. As for leadership... most of the people who work with him in his "crews" have died while working with him.
The Drifter is a coward who wants to save his own skin, everyone else be damned.
Also, the Vanguard doesn't force you to be a part of it. A Guardian can just leave if they so wish, and the Vanguard can't do anything about that, even if they wanted to.

@@maplesyrup6529 No, they won't. The Praxic Order hunts down Lightbearers that act against the Last City, not Lightbearers that decide to leave. If that were the case, they wouldn't have needed to investigate the Drifter in order to determine whether action needed to be taken, since they already knew he was a rogue Lightbearer.

Played the reckoning, watch the invitation of the nine from the xur quest, watched the beyond light trailer and watched both allegiance quest videos. And read some of the top comments.

The drifter is too anti humanity this and that, I mean I get it but I wanna help humanity as a whole and do what d1 promised wich was "take back our worlds" and "defeat the darkness"
Yeah, I would "side with the Vanguard" if it really were the vanguard, but definitely not the praxic order. I think there is potential in an alliance of the factions as the true pro human side. New Monarchy is stupid, but FWC has the best philosophy out of the factions and Dead Orbit both cares about humanity and doesn't trust the traveller. That also makes me think of the Titan Orders that were destroyed during the Red War. I think reforming the Stoneborn and Sunbreakers and uniting the city factions could make for a really interesting quest. Maybe base it on restoring the city, like retaking the towers and driving back the fallen with the help of the united factions or something like that.

Tbh I've always been torn between the 2. Both have helped you significantly in the past, but both have seriously staggering weaknesses that are very visible and very easy to be taken advantage of. Drifter has the right ideas in terms of what in essence the darkness is. A tool, a tool that can be used for both a positive and or a negative way. Darkness is devotion to desires and only to desire. Light is devotion to duty, and only to duty. While on their own, neither are inherently good or evil but in overwhelming quantities, suffocating. Most people on the karmic scale lean (or at least convince themselves they do) more towards the light. Because at face value light seems to be "good" and darkness "bad". But too much time in the sun can lead to sun burn, and too much time in the night can lead you to trip and fall into dangerous conditions. But all in all he lacks the very thing you hear him say that he wants you to do for him "trust". And a lack of trust will lead to dissent and turning on each other. Even if neither of you did anything wrong to the other. The Vangaurd on the other hand is right about their alliegence to the light and their duty to protect the remnants of humanity, but have been considerably daft in terms of their black and white mentalities. Warlock Arnour is the epitome of "all or nothing" even essentially accusing US of being responsible for Cayde's death; even though we clearly had nothing to do with it. History has clearly shown that in order for life to persist and grow, balance must be achieved. Take the death of Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand, the spark that lit the fire that was the first world war. Technology changed, people's minds changed, politics, economics etc. All of that changed dramatically. The price we had to pay for the advancements of our civilization was a very bloody and costly one. The darkness in this analogy was a brutal war and MILLIONS of deaths, but the light was our advancement. Like every good blade, in order for it to remain strong and capable, it has to be tempered, and sharpened. But think about it for a moment, about the process in which this occurs. Tempering the blade is a process in which the blade is melted, made malleable and reinforcing the metal that was already there. The blade may never be the same again, but if done correctly and diligently, it will come out better than it was.
Tl;DR: Drifter is smart but lacks trust and is only in it for himself,(Good practice, bad principles)
The Vangaurd is dumb but is always watching out for the needs of the people (good principles, bad processes)

So, as per the dialogue from drifter, (if you made one guardian side with the vanguard and one with drifter) the moment you side with the drifter is the moment your character turns from "Hero" to "Villain", regardless of what that character has achieved. From killing Ghaul all the way to Uldren Sov (avenging Cayde in the process), and equalizing the the battle for the Dreaming city, all of that means nothing to anyone in the vanguard or morally confined players. The moment you side with the drifter is the moment you turn your back on the Traveler, the vanguard, and the last safe city of humanity.
I chose to go with the Drifter on my Warlock and the Vanguard on my Titan
I think we see the outcome of this in final shape

I don't agree with the Drifter's outlook on humanity - "they're done, you can't save 'em," etc. - and I don't agree with how he feels about Ghosts, but I still trust him more than the Vanguard. At least his eyes are open.

Honestly I sided with the drifter, looking at the pyramids return humanity isn’t coming out of this unscathed, hell might not even survive. The drifter’s viewpoint on the light is honestly as blunt as you can ever see it, it’s a bases of power not a symbol of justice or good. Some of those who wielded the light saw it as a curse it didn’t fix any pain that those who wielded it rather it was a punishment worse than death, it brought different viewpoints thus creating iron lords and warlords and destroying the weak in the cross fire. As guardians I see that we need to look out for ourselves and only ourselves having a an attachment to the city to its people, sad to say it’s not going to be there forever and seeing recent event it might not very soon. The traveler abandoned the fallen before, what says it won’t do the same to us? This isn’t a red war we’re going to face it’s another collapse.
Why does the drifter want to eat everything
Because of what he went through during the dark age, he died to starvation multiple times. And his ghost would just revive him, still hungry. You could say it affected him mentally as well, to the point where he'll eat almost anything if given the chance

I have a feeling the vanguard don't care about the Drifter at all. Mostly cause they are too incompetent to know better.
I mean, he isn't really a threat currently. Hell, he's helping us prepare for the Darkness on Europa through Contact, they've got no reason to worry until he stops being useful.
When can I get ikora’s big a** shotgun
The Drifter possibly possesses multiple classes (i.e. he can use the abilities of Titans, Hunters and Warlocks), he is at least a thousand years old (if it is true that his claim of the Guardian being the closest thing to a wheel-horse he's seen in a thousand years isn't a hyperbole), he has been deemed worthy of by The Nine, he has his own Ascendant Realm and he can summon but not control Taken.
The Drifter is likely very powerful. But he still doesn't inspire trust the same way being open does.
